It's been a wee while since the last Kat edits outing - some six months, in fact - but this 12" has been worth the wait. Put together by Chicagoan scalpel maestro Cratebug, it brilliantly touches on a variety of styles in a typically Windy City way (think raw, percussive, and touched by the relentless sweatiness of original jackin' house). Highlights are plentiful, from the metallic percussion and alien electronics of proto-house cut-up "What You Say", to the rolling Latin house percussion and urgent vocal cut-ups of "You Make Me Feel Good". Best of all, though, is "Hot Shot", a brilliantly rubbery disco stomper that sounds like a classic Rahaan rework.
