Disco Halal is back with more Middle Eastern inspired grooves on its third volume, helping us venture deeper into the exotic. As yet the originals are unknown to most, probably some best kept secrets. First up is self-proclaimed 'mechanical Turk' from Switzerland Mehmet Aslan, a key figure in the Turkish revival scene with his edit of "Baladi" full of tulums and baglamas, it's just gorgeous. Autarkic's edit of "Zaffa" is definitely your more traditional vocal led Turkish ballad but with a sinister synth bassline lurking beneath and giving the track a whole new interpretation. On the flip There's an edit of "Joe's A Star", whoever that's by! Featuring more wonderful baglama, you can just imagine being at a cafe in Istanbul, enjoying the good life of gullac and shisha. Speaking of which; their man in Istanbul Dogu Civicik, he of FOC Edits gives the lovely acoustic ditty "Mitrin" a nice rework. The perfect track to accompany a Sunday walk through Emirgan Park.
