Ever since their impeccable debut 12" "Starlight" dropped in 2006, New Jersey-based "disco orchestra" Escort have been tipped for big things. Here, the 17-piece outfit finally delivers on that early promise with a wonderful debut full-length that could well be the disco album of 2011. Mixing previous singles - "Starlight", "Love In Indigo", "A Bright New Life", "All Through The Night" and last year's thrilling Dillinger re-imagining "Cocaine Blues" - with all-new material, Escort beautifully showcases their exuberant, retro-futurist take on classic NY disco. While their influences are clear - Kid Creole, Donna Summer, Arpydys, Cerrone, dubbed-out Afro-disco, Prelude style synth-boogie etc - they brilliantly mould them into songs and instrumentals that rarely sound anything less than thrillingly fresh. Highly recommended.
