George Harrison's 1973 solo LP Be Here Now shortly followed the breakup of the Beatles and came at a time when the innovative guitarist had already set afoot a new spiritual path. Having studied Eastern philosophies and nurturing a new connection to the Hare Krishna movement, Be Here Now followed All Things Must Pass (1970) as a relatively experimental, layered work, embracing a blend of Indian and Western musical elements. Many of Harrison's neo-psychedelic contemporaries, such as Led Zeppelin, were just as easily appropriating vedic patterns and Orientalist tropes, so Harrison wasn't alone in this. But this avatar of Harrison's solo vision is entirely singular, mixing sensitive arrangements, eudaimonic themes, haunting vocals, and nascent studio effects (the reverse reverb is strong with this one).
