It's no mean feat to score the best-selling album in Japanese music history, but Hikaru Utada achieved just that with their 1999 debut album First Love. Of course such a huge album isn't always a shoe-in for the vinyl market, but it's still surprising to think it hasn't had a pressing since its original release, so this reissue is well overdue. Utada's style moves from a swooning, ballad-driven pop on the title track to an RnB funk on 'Automatic' with lyrics that glide between Japanese and English, undoubtedly capturing the sound of the era and harking back to a simpler time with songs bedded in the hearts and minds of millions.
