Cologne's Yore Records coaxes the classy Ibex out of hiding and grace our ears with rich variations on the classic Detroit sound. Ibex aka Tony Ollivierra is no stranger to exploring such sonic terrains with a CV that includes releases on Rush Hour, Third Ear and Planet E. The Meltdown EP commences with "18681", characterised by the vein of deep throbbing bass patterns and synths that burst with life as the track progresses. This is complemented by the hi nrg disco buzz of the title track, with a bassline hugging the groove, augmented by sampled crowd noise, gentle undertones of moog and emotive flutters of strings. "Mystery Babylon" ends the EP on a high with perhaps the richest composition, layering vocal edits with yet more warm string arrangements and shifting synth stabs for an arrangement that continues to peak until an inspired key change plays the track out on a superlative note.
