Amazingly, it's been some 10 years since James Lavelle last used the UNKLE Sounds moniker for a DJ mix. GU41: Naples, then, is a rare treat for fans of the former Mo Wax founder. Featuring a mix of his own material under the UNKLE guise - most of which has previously remained unreleased - and other people's tracks specially remixed for the occasion, it's a typically atmospheric, psychedelic and grandiose concoction, full of soaring string lines, moody electronics, occasional acid lines and ear-catching vocals. Lavelle clearly put a lot of work into it, and it shows; by blending trip-hop style atmospherics, evocative house and hypnotic techno throughout, GU41: Naples feels more like a non-stop artist album than a DJ mix.
