Jon Collin leaves nobody wondering just how unique his musical vision is across this series of mini-recordings, batched together into two tracks that aren't necessarily coherent wholes, but nevertheless have consistent threads and feelings that persist throughout the movements. At times delicate pianos sound reflective or mournful, in other moments we stand on the peak of an epic electric guitar solo looking out on unfettered wilderness. It's a grand musical journey disguised as relatively minimalistic ambient work.
Putting what you can hear aside for a moment, this is also something of a concept release. Inspired by a Gothenburg performance by Collin, who is based in Stockholm but originally from England, the pre-pandemic gig involved taking old tracks and placing them into a new context, and the same idea has been used here. Rebuilt, rethought and rearranged, to say the finished work is just as original as the originals would be an understatement.
