Perth's Justin Zerbst was throwing down some quality house music somewhere in the sleepy suburbs of Perth, Western Australia before some of you lot were even born. This period in the late nineties alongside good mate Ewan Jansen was very productive for their Red Ember Recordings, which never really made much of a splash outside of W.A. A fun fact: locals in Down Under's big ol' mining state jokingly tell you it stands for 'Wait Awhile' and indeed the rest of the world did: all we can say is thank goodness these gems were finally unearthed and got the recognition they deserved, all these years later. Seuil has reissued several unreleased gems by Zerbst and Jansen such as the Embers Only and Into The Cold EPs. On "The Wave Above Us" it could very well have been made in the present day: bearing similarities to sounds by current producers such as Binh or Saverio Celestri however it most likely took its cues from Daniel Bell or Pantytec at the time and putting its own unique take on the sound with its stripped, bit-crushed rhythms, blips and bleeps and reductionist sense of funk.
