Kinship started out as the brotherly duo of Ubiquitous Poet (U.P.) and Eloquent Slave (E.S.) before later expanding to include Pookimous, who was an older brother who eventually passed. Their first release came in 1995 and was a classic bit of boom-bap, golden-era hip-hop that now gets reissued here by Belgian label Hip Hop Enterprise. If features smooth rhymes which sometimes come hard, but at other times are more sing-song. The samples are carefully sought out nuggets that add soul, jazz and funk motifs to the tumbling beats and although now 25 years old, this is still a gold-standard hip-hop album.
