Melbourne-based Brit Kloke returns, once again joining the dots between a myriad of styles - IDM, Detroit techno, ambient and jazz - in his own inimitable way. The First Light EP is one of his strongest sets to date, and is built around an innate sense of atmosphere. While there are more dancefloor-centric cuts - see the fuzzy industrial swing of the Autechre-inspired "Dark Summer", and the interplanetary swagger of the Motor City themed "Space & Time" - Koke comes into his own when exploring sparser or beatless pastures. Nowhere is this more successful than on the 10-minute title track, a blissfully melodious and immerse ambient piece in four parts.
