It's been a long time between drinks for Cameron Findlay AKA Kontravoid. Remarkably, "Too Deep", his second studio album, arrives almost eight years after his lauded debut full-length. The good news is that he's in fine form throughout, offering up stylish, mind-altering, synth-heavy workouts that variously off a cap to Cabaret Voltaire, the throbbing EBM of Nitzer Ebb, the dark and moody intensity of Depeche Mode, the wild, freewheeling aggression of DAF and the off-kilter melodiousness of early '80s new wave synth-pop. While his trademark style owes much to his vintage influences, there's a freshness about his songs and sounds that's particularly alluring.
