Ophir Kutiel aka Kutiman is one of those multi-talented artists who can switch from keyboarding to video editing with the flick of a switch and, over the years, this talented Israeli has retained a string foothold on the so-called nu-jazz scene. But, this new album 6am is much more than jazz and it pushes the boundaries of the genre way, way out into the ether. The opener "Jaffa Beach", for instance, is a wayward psych scorcher with a wonderfully driving groove, and others like "Zeelim" bring out a vivid Eastern chime to make this into a truly stunning listening experience throughout. There are also deeper, more soulful moments on the likes of "Stranger Of The Follow", with Adam Scheflan giving the song a moody, spiritual 70s vibe without the usual stereotypes, and the stunning journey into the unknown by the name of "Dangerous". A highly recommended affair...
