Another criminally underrated homegrown punk outfit; Leatherface may have never reached the heights they deserved, but the seminal discography and cult status they left behind still hold weight by today's definitions.
Their blistering 1983 debut, 'Cherry Knowle', named after the Sunderland Victorian mental health hospital of the same name, paints a visceral, crusty and abrasive form of hardcore post-punk, dictated by frontman Frankie Stubbs' gravelly vocals, abstract lyricism and seething attitude.
Where cuts such as 'Animal Day' and 'Alright Jack' invoke as much mayhem as any modern counterparts could ever aspire to, deeper, brooding tracks like the standout fan favourite, 'Sublime', are prime examples of the vast influence the group would go on to have on the next American wave of emotive punk championed by the likes of Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker.
