Alongside his roles as audio and mastering engineer, and teacher, Rome-born, Amsterdam-based Ma Spaventi has built up a solid discography of music both as a solo producer and in the RAG and Crystal Maze projects. He's become one of the most reliable artists on Aroy Dee's M>O>S label in recent years with this Balla! 12" the prelude to an upcoming LP. Initially, A-side "Missing Sunlight" seems a little foreboding and perhaps even unsettling, but eventually blossoms into a dreamy chunk of evocative, heavily electronic deep house. There's more of a druggy feel about "Falla (Made Out)", though its' psychedelic acid lines and dense drums are tempered by some typically lucid chords. Best of all, though, is "Balla! (Aho Balla)", a near perfect fusion of Larry Heard style beauty, unfussy jack-track drums, and Legowelt style late night electronics.
