The idea of a Mark Lanegan remix record might once have seemed unlikely, given the gritty sincerity and bluesy tones of much of his work, yet the electronic and post-punk tinges of 'Phantom Radio' make this new collection seem like a very natural progression. Moreover, he's selected a crack team of artists, from The Horrors' Tom Furse and Moby to newer talent like Moon Gangs and Pye Corner Audio. The result expands his widescreen laments into fresh sonic and psychic terrain, expanding the '80s influences of its parent album yet offering a whole new palette for his potent melancholy.
