Trumpeter, composer, arranger and band-leader Matthew Halsall is very much at the centre of the current jazz boom. A veteran of a number of high quality albums and boss of the Gondwana label, he now serves up a deluxe version of his track crossover jazz album that is the first with his new band. The ensemble includes a wealth of fine young talents from Manchester such as Matt Cliffe on flute and sax, lush harp from Maddie Herbert, piano from Liviu Gheorghe and drums from Alan Taylor amongst others. It is another hugely positive album of mellifluous melodies and achingly melancholic trumpet that includes tropical atmospheric references which make it all the more stunning.
