The titular hills, as far as this exquisitely produced collection of songs are concerned, are those of Hollywood, with Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Krgovich using them as the basis for ditties that deal in faded glamour, twilight calm and rapturous melancholy, with his baritone croon the guiding force as he sashays through a variety of styles and moods. As comfortable with the disco-pop of 'Mountain Of Song' as he is on the understated showtune-tinged serenade of 'Sunset Tower', and arriving at some strange hinterland between Arthur Russell and Rufus Wainwright, Krgovich has created a strange and bewitching aural vision here, and - unlike Hollywood itself - it reveals more the longer one listens.
