When it comes to crafting slick, polished late night deep house, few can top the work of Berlin-based Nick Beringer. Slope & Dip, his second EP on the Rubisco imprint he established earlier this year, contains three perfect examples. Opener "Caballerial" sets the tone, with Beringer encased a chunky, bass-heavy groove in spacey, echoing chords and warm, ricocheting electronics. "Do Not Bend" is a slightly tougher affair built around elastic analogue bass, tech-house style electronic pulses and jazzy drums, while "Project 2501" explores similar sonic territory to Soulfiction. In other words, it pops, hisses and crackles, contrasting a rubbery, boompty-influenced groove with warm and toasty deep house musicality.
