Amazingly, given the length of his career, this is only Orlando Voorn's second full-length under his given name. Redeye, his first album, appeared way back in 1999. Divine Intervention, then, should be something of an "event" release for those who admire the Dutch producer's melodic, deep and stargazing approach to techno. Ironically, it's as rooted in deep house as it is floorfilling techno, with Voorn wisely choosing to create a set that doesn't restrict itself to relentless rhythms (though, of course, they do appear - see the rave burner "Step Off"). The result is an entertaining set peppered with soulful vocal samples, warm chords, twinkling melodies, simmering strings hypnotic, Detroit-influenced melodies.
