The third volume in Paul Hierphant's excellent Utopian Dystopias series is the most expansive and ambitious yet, with the publicity-shy producer offering up eight tracks stretched across two slabs of purple marbled vinyl. In keeping with the series title and theme, Hierophant delivers a series of moody and atmospheric excursions that combine the sonic sci-fi dreams (and nightmares) of Motor City techno originals (specifically Jeff Mills), with the otherworldly underwater electro of Drexciya. Throw in a bunch of twisted riffs and psychedelic acid lines, and you have a hugely impressive collection of widescreen electro. If that isn't enough to get you going, the set also includes fine remixes from Plant43 (a skittish take on 'Saturn') and Carl Finlow (a funky acid-electro re-imagining of 'Returned Signal').
