Originally released on cassette in 1983, American composer Randall McClellan (b. 1940) was a founding member of the electronic music studio at the Eastman School of Music in 1967 - where he later received a Ph.D. in Composition, Theory and Musicology. His Healing Music of Rana series was developed gradually during a 15-year involvement with classical electronic music technique, the study of esoteric mystical traditions and personal practice of North Indian vocal music. Part Two of the series here was developed between 1977 and 1983 and performed live in semi-darkened spaces, which allowed listeners to relax. The tracks were completely improvised as well, namely on a Moog Prodigy and Micromoog synthesizer. According to the artist himself, these two compositions are selected for their meditational and healing abilities and he encourages listeners to utilise EQ settings to your desired liking to determine the music's effect. Both sides here would convert even the most stubborn critics of new age music and features glistening, celestial synth textures optimised for true transcendental awareness.
