TRAMP Records' continual quest to unearth and reissue seriously rare slabs of funk continues via a fresh pressing of the sole single from Shirlean Williams and the Tempo's Band, a South Carolina outfit who were briefly active in the mid 1970s. Licensed directly from Tempo's Band main man Nolla Mainor, 'This is The Song' is a heavyweight slab of deep funk brilliance laden with punchy horns, energetic drums, heady Hammond organ chords and a fine lead vocal from Williams. Almost as good is flipside 'Ease it to Me', a similarly styled number notable for some seriously good extended funk breaks, drum solos and sweat-soaked solos. Both cuts are fine examples of raw, mid-'70s funk of the kind that usually detonates dancefloors when dropped at the right time.
