Some 11 years into their career, French outfit Souleance has developed from a duo o a four-piece thanks to the addition of a drummer and synthesiser-loving keyboardist. If Les Mouches, their latest release on long-time home First Word, is anything to go by, it's a move that has made their sound richer, fuller and far more organic. There's much to enjoy across the six-track set, from the mazy, life-affirming synth solos and low-slung, bass-heavy disco grooves of 'Les Mouches', to the live - and ultra-funky - beat science of 'The Bounce' and the hazy-but-exciting jazz business that is 'Mont Maudit'. We'd also recommend checking the quirky, P-funk influenced wonkiness of 'L'Opuleance' and the life-affirming, piano-laden rush of 'Aquarelle'.
