When it came to recording their latest album, Soulwax's Daweale brothers decided on a novel approach. They gathered together a group of musician friends, including three drummers, at their Deewee studio in Ghent and recorded 16 tracks in one continuous take. Several run-throughs later, they had the basis of From Dewee, a fine full-length that offers a superb fusion of analogue electronics, live instrumentation and evocative vocals. Throughout, the brothers draw on many of their familiar influences - think acid house, minimal wave, new beat, synth-pop, post-punk, electronica and alternative rock - while delivering a set that bristles with fine melodies and innovative musical fusions. In other words, their method may have been different, but in essence it's a classic Soulwax album.
