There's something pleasingly direct and effervescent about the material released by 2 Bad Mice's Over/Shadow imprint, which presents new works from artists once associated with the Moving Shadow label and a handful of 'like-minded artists'. D&B/dubstep fusionist Sully (real name Jack Stevens) falls into the latter category, though the giddy retro-futurism on display on his latest two-tracker is undeniably in-keeping with the back-to-the-future feel of Over/Shadow's output. For proof, check out A-side '5ives', where dark synth-string stabs and horror-influenced electronics ride a wobbling dubstep bassline and savagely edited, revivalist jungle breaks. Over on the flip, 'Sliding' is a bongo-heavy, 'Apache' drum-break fired roller full of vintage, Snivilisation-era Orbital references and buzzing, effects-laden stabs.
