Furious techno-punk from the one and only The Horrorist. The New York City born producer (now based in Berlin) serves up five versions of his new war anthem "RIOT" courtesy of Scotland based RIOT Radio. The bang and clutter of the original version calls to mind the style of early '90s techno found on labels like Djax Up Beats, with its nefarious acid wobble supported by his militaristic vocals. The brooding darkwave rendition up next on the RIOT Remix was equally as impressive. He then brings in two of techno's true legends for their perspectives on the track. Dave Tarrida's raw and saturated rendition almost sounds like a live version, while fellow Sativa resident Neil Landstrumm delivers a cheeky electro version which we'd consider our favourite of the bunch. That being said, this reviewer wasn't so keen on the industrial strength gabber version by Stickhead: but, horses for courses! Real name Oliver Chesler, the Horrorist's career has spanned over 20 years, where he's released everywhere from Arcadipane, International Deejay Gigolos, aufnahme + wiedergabe and of course his own Things To Come imprint.
