Since he established the Tripeo project some two years ago, it's remained a revelatory outlet for Darko Esser to showcase a more direct approach to techno. Initially delivered via a glut of 12"s issued on the label of the same name, this year saw Esser demonstrate his software/hardware project was equally suited to the long player format with the excellent Anipinitiros album. Given the tone of Tripeo, it makes perfect sense that Clone should invite Esser to contribute to their Basement series under the guise and if you've heard just one of his previous records under the name the three tracks on Nargy warrant your full attention. The tripped out "Kuebiko" is positively alien in execution and possesses a bassline reminiscent of a deep growling purr from a cat, whilst the title track is also dominated by its bassline. Here Esser's production vintage shines through as the rhythmic elements swing expertly between moments of stripped back minimum and deadly kick attacks. Closing cut "Qwerty" ensures this is a quality 12" through and through, with more alien sonics married to some punishing hi hats.
