Hot on the heels of a spate of reissues focusing on Zoviet France's work in the early-to-mid 1980s, we're being treated to a new vinyl edition of one of the band's most sought-after sets, 1988's Shouting at the Ground. Made up primarily of short sound experiments crafted using a mixture of tape loops, samples, effects units and a limited range of instruments, the album's 13 tracks sit somewhere between Muslimgauze, proto-type drone, music concrete and the more ambient works of fellow 1980s experimentalists Cabaret Voltaire. While at times unsettling, much of the set is surprisingly meditative and exceptionally atmospheric; an otherworldly excursion that should appeal to experimentalists and ambient heads old and new.
