Review: Parisian oddball house legend Ark teams up again with fellow local and Prospector head honcho Pit Spector to inaugurate Ark Records. A longtime in the making no doubt but worth the wait. Love Supreme LP as the title suggests is a tribute to the legendary John Coltrane and the pair have drafted a who's who of deep house and minimal to lend some hands and ears. Highlights include The Mole's "Molemix"; a sublime serving on reductionist bounce, Frankfurt genius Lo Soul who is as brilliant as ever on the sublime and hypnotic "It's All In There Mix" and Ark himself with his "Free Mix" which is as dusted down and as funked up as we all like it!
Review: After launching into Memory Box with aplomb on the deadly Acid Stomp 12", Robin Ball steps up on the London-based imprint once again with the saucy tones of his latest four track EP. "Drop It Down Low" and its accompanying dub mix are classy twists on the tech house formula that lean towards old-skool methods while keeping the sleaze factor ramped up high. "Remember" takes a more tripped out tribal approach, with the "Vibes mix" providing a more subtle twist to the warm, melodic undulations of the full fat version. It's an EP loaded with personality and flair for sophisticated dancefloors.
Review: Battista, John Swing and EMG's first hook-up under the SPS moniker - the thrillingly hard-to-pigeonhole Sintomi Di Gravita 12" - was arguably one of 2014's most slept-on records. Here they join forces for round two, delivering another two tracks that neatly sidestep the accepted norms of house and techno. A-side "Movimento (Consico Mix)" is a wonky chunk of well-swung, jazz-flecked deep house, smothered in filters and tipsy chords. Flip for the Inconsico Mix of the same track, a brilliantly far-out fusion of odd electronics, glitchy rhythms, shimmering synths and bubbling found sounds. It's hardly dancefloor-centric, but it's certainly really, really good.
Review: Known most for his TC Studio work alongside Matei Tulbure, Traian Chereches has latterly taken to working in a solo capacity and demonstrated an equal degree of aplomb for unique rhythms and joyful sensations. Fans of the Romanian's work will delight in this double pack on his and Tulbure's prospering TC Studio label with the six tracks on Lobster Club really showing Chereches' full production range. Proceedings begin on an abstract note with "Wald 1975" memorable for some bold vocal sampling, though tracks such as the tumbling "A New Beat" and "Orchestra Rehearsal" will provide more than enough dancefloor satisfaction.
Review: Antony Difrancesco is only a new name to electronic music, and an enigmatic one at that. He last surfaced on a label called Coquette Records in 2012 which was their and his only release. Some two year's later he reappears on Othertones, a London label, and provides them with their second release. The title cut, "Jam", is a 909 weighted club cut sprinkled with crackly effects and a light draping of industrial ambience. On the B-side there's Vera's thrumming sine wave mix of "Dimplex", which in its original form is cold, haunting and alien sounding. Deep stuff.

Review: Five years on from the release of his debut album, Gymnastics, Ramon Lisandro Quezada finally serves up a follow-up. Conjure is a fine set that neatly showcases the varied sides of the prolific deep house producer's output. So, we get Iberican tribal drums fused with hazy trumpet solos ("Feed Off Of"), dreamy ambience ("Candlelit"), groovy downtempo beats (the hip-hop influenced "Supafly"), sumptuous and sensual dancefloor deepness ("Lotus (In Memory Of)"), and dark, intense, occasionally dubbed-out late night business ("Whistle Song", "Visitation", the stripped-back hip-house of "Toc"). There's little in the way of filler or fluff, and plenty of playable, club-ready material.
Review: With previous releases by Tin Man, Veiled and King Blood, Philadelphia based White Denim are back with the debut LP by Graham Dunning: a self-taught artist and musician based in London. His live work explores sound as texture, timbre and tangibility - drawing on bedroom production, tinkering and recycling found objects. Much of the work evolves through experimentation with different processes: considering the methods by which sounds become music, process as a continuum encompassing both improvisational and procedural methods, and testing analogous processes across different media. Dunning provides two immersive minimal techno workouts on the Tentation EP, with the slow burning and dubbed-out echomania of "Another Rhythem" and the further reductions of "Ping Pong Rhythem" on the flip - reminiscent of Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia or Plastikman's early exploits. Highly recommended.
Review: Alex Font has many strings to his bow, not least running the excellent Acme label, and here he is on one of his other ventures, Third Stream. With improvisation placed at the forefront of the creative process, Font turns out functional club tracks with curious kinks and moments of intrigue worked into the structure. "Onda Tropical" is definitely DJ friendly with its insistent percussive framework, but there are interesting diversions, fills and edits peppered throughout. "Musica Moderna (CDS Tribute)" meanwhile rolls on a more consistent groove, with a more organic set of drums pitched right at the heart of a long and winding DJ set.
Review: Long-serving Italian deep house producer Enrico Mantini has been in the game for a long time, first dropping bombs back in the early 90s, but his career has enjoyed a powerful second wind in the past few years with appearances on Half Baked, 4 Lux and more besides. Having released the Inner Heights EP on PURISM earlier in 2017, Mantini returns with an album of immersive, tripped out grooves supposedly recorded live at Tresor in Berlin. The vibe is consistently deep, refined and just a little bit trippy for the minimal house crowd to go head first into.
Review: Born in Tehran and raised in Berlin, Nima Chatrsimab aka NYMA utilises his heritage and melting pot of influences on this record. The album is made in collaboration with vocalist Noisy Vibration, sitting somewhere between house, techno and electro - with honest pop sensibilities. He began his career around 2013 with early affiliations with the likes of Items & Things and Desolat, but has since released mainly his own imprint IT'S ALL IN YOU. It's definitely more of the bleepy and bumpy minimal house you've come to expect from him, with highlights such as the classic acid house vibe of "Instinctual Lover", the sweaty jackathon of "Body Worx" and the brooding darkwave vibe of "XX". Also, the gnarly EBM stomper "I Know You" is worth mentioning, making for a diverse yet cohesive collection of tracks. Chatrsimab has also been involved with product design - along with Magda he was responsible for a custom MIDI DJ controller with German manufacturer Faderfox a few years back.
Review: The OdD Music crew are back with more of that off-kilter, subtly freaked up house music shuffle to make your bones shake. This sixth release on the label has everything any minimal head craves, not least on opening jam "Forty Five" with its nervy piano licking away underneath a heavy filter while the groove rolls on incessantly. "Thirty Three & A Third" takes a different approach, dropping some deft broken beats into the mix and letting some spaced out synth wobbles ping the track into a curious new orbit. "Nine" finishes the EP off with some immersive percussive tones that call to mind ritualistic dancing and transcendental experience, just like all good party music should.
Review: Having appeared only once before with the excellent Reel Nitty Gritty 12" on Echovolt, Paradise Box makes a return on Crimes Of The Future with a new set of crunchy leftfield club tracks infused with house, electro and disco sensibilities. "Hookup" is a cracked and mucky affair, but it kicks where it counts, but then "Running Up That Hill" comes along to impart a more emotive, clear-cut message via a cover of Kate Bush. "Ya Mo Be There" throws down a heavy wedge of 80s synth lines that refigures the James Ingram and Michael McDonald belter in a most unlikely of ways.
Review: Gunnar Wendel's Ominira label swing back into the line of sight for their first release of the year and it finds the excellent Noleian Reusse at the helm. Known for his ongoing Africans With Mainframes project alongside Jamal Moss, Reusse does possess a small but deadly solo discography for Mathematics, Love What You Feel and his own Black Tekno label. Given that this Ominira 12" is also called Black Tekno, it's evidently a concept that is close to Reusse. Across the three tracks, the US producer really shows his range, with "Venus In Scorpio" a quite dreamy opener that pairs up lazy acid lines with loose limbered drums and yearning chords. Following this, "3rd Layer" veers off into fidgeting and unpredictable 303 madness whilst "Gun Romance" strips back proceedings for a more abstract finale.
Review: Riccardo Buccirossi is one of those artists who has no problem in pressing up his own debut release onto vinyl; he clearly has absolutely no need to go through other labels to get his point across, and we respect him for that. Of course, we should mention that this is some pretty stellar music, right here: the opener "Giraffe" shapes the minimal techno formula into something completely new and boundaries thanks to his use of electro as a guide to the arrangement, and the more beat-centric dub mix isn't anything short of brilliant. There's also a dub version of "Intothestruggles", a muddled, intricate web of washed-out sonics, followed by the glitchy folds of "Amazzonia" and the original mix of "Intothestruggles". All in all, this is a fine debut that will surely place this artist on the map.
