Simmer Down
Cat: RSCS 7004. Rel: 15 Dec 20
  1. Simmer Down (2:49)
  2. How Many Times (3:03)
Review: The always well curated Rock A Shaka Japan comes through with another superb 7" here. 'Simmer Down' was the first single released by The Wailers, who were accompanied by the ska supergroup, The Skatalites, with production from the man, the legend, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd in 1963. It was the number one hit in Jamaica when it was released in February and was all about sending a message to violent gangs and crime lords to calm their fires. The excellent and lo-fi 'How Many Times' is a raw, real jam that swaggers to and fro with real spunk.

Everybody Loves The Sunshine (reissue)
Everybody Loves The Sunshine (reissue) (7" 再出版) (1 per customer)
Cat: VR 02R. Rel: 10 Dec 20
  1. Everybody Loves The Sunshine (4:34)
  2. Everybody Loves The Sunshine (dub version) (4:34)
Review: Awesome sulltry Japanese only cover version of Roy Ayers annual summer anthem.Essential dubbed out bliss on the flipside.Limited stocks !Second time around for Robert 'Dubwise' Browne's sweet and sweltering reggae cover of Roy Ayers classic 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine', which appeared and disappeared from record stores in double-quick time earlier in the year. If you missed out then, we'd recommend taking a listen, because it offers the perfect fusion of leisurely, organic reggae grooves, spacey synths, twinkling pianos, super-soulful lead vocals from Browne and brilliant backing vocals from an all-female collective of singers. It also comes with a deliciously horizontal, spaced-out dub version on the flip - a revision that features even more intergalactic synth squiggles amongst the head-nodding grooves and delay-laden vocal snippets.

Reggae Dynamite Vol 2
  1. Melbourne Douglas - "Rudy Skankin On The Moon" (3:14)
  2. The Regulators - "Caymanas Park Rocket" (2:30)
  3. Melbourne Douglas - "Rude Boy Don't Fight" (2:50)
  4. King Deadly - "Joshua A Mek Riddim Run" (2:46)
Review: Having already delivered a multi-artist EP of Reggae Dynamite earlier in the year, nostalgia-fired producer Neil Anderson serves up a speedy sequel on his popular Original Gravity label. Toaster Melbourne Douglas kicks things off with the ska-flavoured cheeriness of 'Rudy Skanking on the Moon', before returning later in the EP with slowed-down, rocksteady style reggae fuzziness of 'Rude Boy Don't Fight'. Elsewhere, label regulars (sorry) the Regulators deliver a high-tempo, Hammond-heavy instrumental workout (the excellent 'Caymanas Park Rocket'), while King Deadly layers languid organ solos over a more dub-wise groove on EP standout 'Joshua a Mek Riddim Run'.

Miracle Of Love (warehouse find)
  1. Devon Russell - "Miracle Of Love" (3:55)
  2. High Times Players - "Miracle Of Love" (version) (4:18)
Review: Even in this internet age where you can find out pretty much anything about anyone, Devon Barrant Russell's story remains much of a mystery. Bits of info are known about his life and recording career, but there are also huge gaps. What we do know is that he worked with High Times Players in 1984 on a full length, but then never again according to discogs. Despite that, this tune isn't on that album, so who knows where and when it was recorded. It's a warehouse find from a recent stock take and fuses a sentimental soul sound with blissful 80s reggae, R&B and roots vibes. It's a lovely little tune, too.
