Review: Mikey Dread was a legend of reggae as a producer, DJ and singer, who gained international fame for working with The Clash on 'Bankrobber' and mixing dub versions for their Black Market Clash and Sandinista! albums. Through his Dread At The Controls label he released reams of incredible dub and roots reggae himself, with World War III surely one of the highlights. With the Roots Radics as the backing band and the likes of Earl Sixteen and Watty Burnett on backing vocals, the cast of characters is steeped in reggae's golden era, and sure enough the sound is as good as you'd expect. This welcome reissue comes on yellow vinyl - a beam of sunshine as uplifting as the riddims carved into the grooves.

Here their catalogue is presented by Mikey Dread aka Michael Campbell, who was initially an engineer with the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation and went on to make reggae history hosting his Dread At The Controls radio program. A solo career as a performer and producer as well as a top-notch dub master followed, not to mention being sampled by everyone from Dee-lite to Coldcut and endless hip-hop and drum & bass artists. This superb and limited edition album features gems like 'Two Track Dub' and 'Demo Dub' amongst many more.

He coded all manner of heady and futurist sounds of it it by twisting nobs and playing with faders in a way no one had before and fee have managed to recreate ever since. He has turned his hand to reworking countless classic albums as well as turning out his own heart works, not least this album that was originally released in 1984. Ariwa Sounds (The Early Sessions) captures his work with artists like Errol Sly, Rock A Way & Sister Audrey and Sergeant Pepper, all of who he left with his magic dub touch.

Review: Presenting The Morwells is a 1975 reggae and dub classic from The Morwells. It is their debut album and has not been reissued in many years so is a sought after title that features members who went on to form the Roots Radics band. It is a raw and stripped back sound and on this new reissue two exclusive new bonus cuts are included next to the original track list. Of those the likes of 'Try,' 'Bit by Bit' and 'Educate Your Mind' are real roots scanners that lock you in deep and also featuring are a pair of superb covers in the form of 'Swing And Dine' and 'Come On Little Girl.'

Review: Matisyahu hosts the annual Festival of Light towards the end of the year and it was there on December 22 back in 2022 that this Live in Brooklyn album was recorded. As well as featuring plenty of live takes on his own much-loved gems like 'One Day' and 'King Without A Crown', he also tackles a few tasteful covers that were penned written by his son Laivy, and which they performed in unison. There was also a visual recording of this show made and available to find online, which is well worth doing while you sink into the sounds that came at the end of a 15-stop tour.

Review: This Best Of The Morwells album originally landed back in 1981 but has not degraded in any way over the ensuring 40+ years. It is a superb collection of vocal roots that first came on the American label Nighthawk Records and might be best known for standout hits like 'In God We Trust' and 'Africa' as well as 'Educate Your Mind.' The lyrics muse on plenty of still relevant socio-political topics while riding on nice deep rhythms with earthy drums and meandering leads. The band went on to become well-regarded and prolific session musicians in Jamaica and you might well have heard of them... none other than The Roots Radics.
