Review: Whilst on a world tour playing keyboards for Echo And The Bunnymen Paul Fleming began to write what would come to be his debut album as Baltic Fleet. With a laptop and any instruments that were to hand he would capture, in music, what inspired him in each city around the world; from Texas to Barcelona to Berlin to Copenhagen to Reykjavik and back to the UK in Brighton. In hotel rooms, tour buses, planes, at the end of radio sessions and sound-checks, every opportunity was taken and tracks gradually started to form into an album. A sound was born influenced by works from artists such as Eno, Doves, NEU!, Sigur Ros and DJ Shadow. Written, produced and performed by Paul, the self-titled album also features contributions from Simon Finley on drums, Will Sergeant on guitar and Pete Wilkinson on Bass. Paul signed to Blow Up Records in April 2007, and the same Summer took his recordings into Studio B, The Premises in Hackney for additional production and mixing with Nick Terry (Klaxons, Simian Mobile Disco). After some heavy-duty valve and analogue processing, the beats got bigger, the sound-scape was widened and the album was complete

Review: Inhabiting their own delightful trash-fixated universe for some twenty-two years now, the Berlin-based French-German duo Stereo Total have excelled in creating a gloriously irreverent back catalogue of chic garage-birthed electronic pop that owes as much to Serge Gainsbourg as to Devo, and as much to the B-52s as to Kraftwerk. The title of this compendium admirably sums up the spirit of this two-decade mission, and the high/low culture clash that defines their party-ready yet whipsmart sound. Collecting a mighty 22 tracks, it showcases a band whose pop skills are such that in some parallel universe far superior to this one they're already arena-strutting megastars.

Review: For more than 20 years Big Boss Man have been holding down the heaviest of grooves on Blow Up, the label they call home. There had been a pause for a minute, and life felt a little less funky as a result, but with their first drop since 2015, BBM are back and sounding sweeter than ever. This is a quintessential big-band sound, all lashings of wah-wah guitar, boom bap drums and some crisp melodic hooks to snap you into focus. You simply won't be able to get enough of 'Juju Funk' or its counterpart 'Return of Baron Samedi' on the flip.
