Review: Fresh reissued magic of Funky Stuff, formerly a rare exquisite by jazzmaster Jiro Inagaki, originally released in 1975. An enduring, pioneering fusion of jazz, funk, soul and rock - with influences from Herbie Hancock, James Brown and Santana - the album features some of the best and most acclaimed Japanese musicians of the time, enlisting the talent-wares of Hiromasa Suzuki on keyboards, Akira Ishikawa on drums and Takeru Muraoka on sax. Review: .Hollywood heavyweight James Newton Howard has turned his hand to a wide variety of movie soundtrack styles in his tenure as one of the go-to names for Hollywood scores. Allow us a moment to reel off the names, or a few of them at least: Pretty Woman, The Fugitive, Space Jam, The Sixth Sense - a list that could go on, and on, but you get the point. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes sits at the more pomp and ceremony-filled end of things, epic classical overtures that invoke a sense of adventure, overcoming adversity, mild peril and inner strength. Dancehall is a culture that encompasses music, fashion, drugs, guns, art, community, technology, and more. Born in the 1950s out of the neighbourhood soundsystems of Kingston, Dancehall grew to its height in the 1980s before a massive influx of drugs and guns made the scene too dangerous for many. Today Dancehall remains at the centre of Jamaican musical and cultural life. From its roots in Kingston in the 1950s to its heyday in the 1980s, Dancehall conquered the globe spreading to the USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Europe and beyond.

In the early 1980s Jamaica was in the throws of political and gang violence - photographer Beth Lesser ventured where few other dared and this book is a never-before-seen record of the exciting, dangerous and vibrant world of Dancehall.

Living in Jamaica in the late 70s and early 80s she photographed and documented a cultural explosion as producers, singers, DJs and soundsystems who all made a living out of the slums of Kingston. With unprecedented access to the incredibly vibrant music scene during this period, Beth Lesser's photographs are a unique way into a previously hidden part of Jamaican culture.

Review: The market for video game soundtracks seems to know no bounds and whatever game is in the spotlight, there is an audience for it. Of course, Street Fighter is one of the most iconic of all time so will have vast swathes of fans keen to get their slice of the musical action. And so it is that MNRK serve up this heavyweight red vinyl version of Street Fighter 6 in association with Nerds Clothing and subtitled Steel Sessions. It's a superb mix of heavyweight hip-hop sounds and myriad guests all adding their own raw bars.

Review: Continued Sound has kicked off a new series here that looks to explore the soul sounds of New Jersey. Volume one is a real doozy of a compilation that features music music written, composed and produced in the state on the Atlantic coast of the US by the influential pair of pioneers George Kerr and Paul Kyser. From the 60s through to the 90s they had a huge impact on soul and shaped the sound of acts like Soul Generation, Florence Ballard, Linda Jones, The Moments, The O'Jays and The Whatnauts and were often sampled by hip-hop greats of ensuing generations. This album is a great testament to the richness of their sound.

Review: Mosquito Control and The Red Sea served as the first two officially released EPs from Boston post-metal outfit Isis. While the band had recorded two early demos prior, these projects marked the first formative material before settling into their unique brand of atmospheric, heaving prog-sludge by the arrival of their full-length debut Celestial. While somewhat rough around the proverbial edges when compared to their later works, this collection still teems with nuanced aggression and an artistic finesse that put their contemporaries to shame. Originally released in 1998 and 1999 respectively, this compilation offers longtime followers and newcomers alike a chance to experience these vital experiments more than two decades after the fact in their most undiluted form.

Review: The debut LP from the Raconteurs, released in May 2006. Serving as most fans' introduction to the band, Broken Boy Soldiers is the home for such canonical classics as 'Blueveins', 'Hands' and the anthemic 'Steady, As She Goes'. Such hits went so far as to charm even stalwart director, Jim Jarmusch, to direct a mystical music video for the lattermost song, owing to his penchant for music with a looming, bluesy edge, an aesthetic which the band had by then nailed. Railing against the predominant order of the day - steady living, unquestioned teleologies - the Raconteurs successfully delivered and now re-deliver a compelling, authentic Detroit blues rock project, best, it must be said, known as a latter-day effort by the one and only Jack White and friends.

Review: Influential and ground breaking American hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest dropped their fifth album The Love Movement in 1998. It was the last one with their complete original line up before the passing of Phife Dawg. It continues stylistically from where the previous album, Beats, Rhymes and Life, left off with the group's signature minimalist beats, r&b overtones and jazz-flecked production, all of which was taken care of by The Ummah. The mature vocal themes, laid back delivery and subtle style of the album makes it one of the many classics in their oeuvre. This limited reissue spreads it over six sides of essential wax.

Review: Philly's Vinnie Paz came up in the 90s as part of Jedi Mind Tricks, but these days he's more commonly found charging ahead on his own path. His flow is unmistakable, coming on croaky and cranky with an old-soul outlook which reflects on the grittiness of street life with a wise, embittered touch. That doesn't stop the music from brimming with vitality, toying with cinematic scene setting, sharp-angled riffs and plenty of anthemic hooks that speak to his considerable skin in the game. It's hip-hop which isn't concerned with meeting anyone's expectations, adding another potent entry to Paz's ever-swelling body of work.

Review: Released back in 1979, Inga was Yagi Masao's first truly solo project released on vinyl. The late jazz pianist had previously created a tribute album to Thelonious Monk in the summer of 1960, a lovesong to one of the greatest jazz composers in history. The Japanese Americanophile is hardly a small star himself, scoring multiple movies and TV shows like the boxing anime 'Ashita no Joe' as well as live-action 60s classics like 'Good-bye Moscow' and 'Bad Girl, Yoko'. Well deserving of a third issuing, the first vinyl reissue since its original pressing, 'Inga' is a multi-instrumental masterpiece where Masao flexes his dexterity to the highest degree. No better is this shown than the dramatic, sweeping intro track ' Memories (Piano Solo)', a showcase in tempo and restraint unlike any you will ever hear today. Curiously, his name seems to be misspelt as Yagui on the 'Inga' cover, and that cover alone - one of numerous quirks to this spellbinding release.
