Review: Heaven In Hiding is the fourth studio album from Imminence, a Swedish metalcore band with an imposing presence in the modern day scene. They formed in 2009, and at this point their prominence can't be argued with. The album was foreshadowed by the title-track as the lead single, and it's a staggering track which flips between protracted moments of frosty balladry and blistering screamo explosions. The production is striking and modern, not least on album opener 'I Am Become A Name' and the composition reaches epic, orchestral heights. This deluxe edition comes as a box set with a necklace and feather included - one for the collectors.

Review: Joshua Abrams' Natural Information Society project has never been an easy thing to pin down. While rooted in jazz - both classical and contemporary - the ever-changing collective's output also heavily draws on what he calls "traditional musics" from around the World (and the instruments used to make it), psychedelia and more than a dash of far-sighted spiritualism. Review: The third instalment of NeighbourSoul rhythm's limited vinyl-only treatment of space-age nu-disco and funk isn't to be messed with. Straight to the point, the opening 'Love Attack' is a fast-paced guitar-led disco-funk banger - no warm-up, just dancing. Track 2, 'Dream Machine' is out-of-this-world, literally, with its vocal cosmic pinings of an android-dominated future scape against a relentless synth pattern.
Side B brings us back down to earth, to the middle of the night in the dance hall, 'Never Gonna Let You Go' is a mid-tempo groover that commands your joints to keep busting shapes no matter how tired your body tells you to feel. Review: Nothing hits quite like a dose of that raw Midwestern noise Wolf Eyes are capable of conjuring. Nate Young's troublesome project has shirked popular consensus for 25 years now, following its own gutter-dwelling logic into ever slimier surroundings. Of course not everything along such a path is perfect, but when the noise hits right, it's majestic. On Dreams In Splattered Lines, released on the ever-excellent Disciples label, Young and fellow Michigan miscreant Jonny Olson are on superlative form, wreaking some tangible brilliance out of scattershot chaos. Just listen to 'Plus Warning' and you'll understand - this is Wolf Eyes at their best.

Notes: "Entering the Forbidden Zone" is a film by Conor McGrady, edited by John Buckley, with the soundtrack, "The Dream of Reason Brings Forth Monsters" by Nurse With Wound. The film was originally developed as a video projection for Nurse With Wound performances scheduled for Russia and for the Shepherds Bush Empire, London, but which were not able to take place due to the onset of the pandemic in 2020. The duration of the film corresponds with the duration of the planned performances.
Imagery is taken from Conor McGrady's artworks probing aspects of power or control. These often stark images have been combined with film footage to create a loose narrative journey into the dark, violent underbelly of contemporary society, generating a sense of unease or disquiet.
Conor McGrady is an artist who has exhibited in New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Zagreb, Croatia. In 2022 his first solo museum exhibition "Entering the Control Zone" took place at the Museum of Fine Art, Split, Croatia. "Entering the Forbidden Zone" was premiered in conjunction with this exhibition.

Review: Sound Metaphors sub label Thank You continues to explore lesser known niche records from visionary artists of the 80s by revisiting this single from Jah Wobble. 'Blow Out' is a shoe-in for any Balearic set worth its salt, pairing boxy drum machine rhythms with wistful keys and some blue-eyed soul vocal turns for a meandering ride through prime mid-decade sonic territory. Bleepy where it counts, just a little dubby around the edges and smooth up top, it's a refined, long form cut which sounds great with a modern remaster. Backed with the instrumental version on the flip, it's a no-brainer for diggers who might have balked at paying top whack for an original 85 edition.
