Review: To kick off new label Takashimashuzo, Kammoushiki - who is presumably the boss - is dropping two new 12"s in the same week. This is the second and like the first, it is inspired house music that takes its cues from the 80s Ibiza party landscape. 'Magic Hour' has gurgling basslines riding up and down the scale with innocent keys and lazy drums. It's heartwarming stuff from sundown. 'Nakanaide' then ups the Balearic quotient with even more prominent and arcing guitar licks over bongos and soulful chords.

Review: Mitch Wellings is the founder of Space Tours Records and The Sound Kitchen studios and he's been impressing us with his 12"s for a while so we're glad to hear an album from him. This new conceptual release says it was "created to honour the brave passengers on the first ever Space Tours flight." It's a cosmic trip made using "real interview footage" and has some very lovely artwork to help heighten the illusion. The music itself is futurities and melodic tech with wispy electro rhythms and celestial chord sequences. It's an expansive mind movie, a deeply immersive and escapist soundtrack that makes great use of the long-player format while also offering up plenty of great moments for the dance floor. A real triumph.

Review: Swedish band Soul Tune Allstars play authentic sonic soul food and here return for a Viking-themed instrumental soul album with The Soul Of The Viking. No longer a strictly domestic affair, this second LP still hears head man Niclas Wretelid bandlead, and also contains appearances from American singers Carlton J Smith and Maria Sanchez, not to mention razor-sharp guitar work from Mikko Raisanen, and flute and organ contributions from his countrymen Olli and Tommi. More Viking-like in theme than sound, this is a progressively branching, nourishing album.

Review: American rapper Logic announced his retirement from music in 2020, but returned with this surprise release, College Park, in 2023. For all intents, such a stunt might come across as disingenuous, but it makes sense in Logic's case, as the album is more of a personal paean to Logic's complex and difficult childhood. When the moment comes to revisit your past via your art - regardless of whether you ostensibly "quit" beforehand - you take it. Over the course, Logic leads us by the hand into his hometown of College Park, Maryland, where he took the first steps on his hero's journey into the rap biz. Logic's story is thoroughly emotional, and this is certainly his most personal album yet, with tracks like 'Wake Up' and 'Self Medication' exemplifying the artist's newfound maturity and a full-circle return to earthen realness.

Review: South London-based band Soothsayers are nothing if not prolific. This is their ninth studio album and once again it is underpinned by heavy basslines, with solid grooves and most importantly, socially and politically charged lyrics. It is a broad record that has a rich pale with elements of dub, Afrobeat, improvisational jazz and electronica all feeding into it, while Brazilian flavours, such as the low-end Surdo drum, were combined with sounds more readily associated with reggae and Afrobeat. Complex but accessible, melodic but physical, this is an album that brings us all together with messages of unity, joy and meditative musical power.

What develops is a distinctive style typified by a combination of ethereal sonics and cheeky, memorable instrumental hooks, only set to a variety of beats that reference and indeed fuse the plethora of different dance genres that have sprung up since the acid house revolution if the mid-80s. Review: Allysha Joy and the London-based collective CoOp Presents crew have come together to curate this super new collection of on-point and contemporary broken beat and nu-jazz sounds. Alex Phountzi and IG Culture are the main men at CoOp and they invited Allysha on board for this project which found her looking to the heavy broken sounds of the Aussie scene. Tracks from Sampology, Maia, Silentjay & Lanu, Ziggy Zeitgeist and CC Dance Orchestra all pair brilliant drums with meaningful synths and often heart-aching vocals.

Take that as you will - it's not for us to start guessing why one of the most economically disenfranchised parts of Britain has a tendency to encourage insane imaginations - The World That We Drive Through is typically escapist stuff from the outfit in question.
First unveiled in 2004, two years after The Tangent got together and around 12 months - give or take - following their debut album, it certainly set out a stall at the time. Weird musical-esque balladry complete with flute, insane blues-hued riff-a-thons, keyboard-driven atmospheric tomes, and metal-edged, grinding-yet-funky fare, it's varied and littered with big ideas.
