Review: Probably one of the weirdest discoveries in the field of collectable German albums in recent years, Staff Carpenborg's sole output was first
brought to the spotlight by the compilers of the celebrated 'Kraut! Demons! Kraut!' cd series in the mid-90s. Since then rumours and interest
about the album have risen exponentially after all, this is a weird record (and we mean WEIRD) and one of the earliest known examples of
kraut-rock. How such a demented collection of tunes found their way on the budget Maritim label is anyone's guess, especially if one takes
into account the label's typical output of schlager, mariachi songs, children tales and similar all-ages budget shmaltz. This may also be the
reason why 'Fantastic Party' went under the radar for so many diggers and record collectors as they wouldn't expect such craziness would
hide in the grooves on this otherwise crappy-looking album. No one knows who was behind this weird studio project except a certain Paul
Bucher credited on the record as the composer of all tracks. Anyway what this anonymous bunch of musicians left behind was a puzzling
set of psychedelic jams choked with an overdose of effects which can be easily labelled as proto-kraut. Like the bastard son of Can (or
better, The Inner Space) scoring a weird sexadelic Euro flick, this is the missing link connecting a whole string of renegade, leftfield German
music, from The Vampires of Dartmoor to Amon Duul, that is, from psych-exploitation experiments to bona fide kraut-rock. So open your
ears to the sounds of the strangest and most fantastic party you're ever likely to attend with Wah Wah's reissue of this obscure artefact
brought back to life for your aural delight. Available in a limited issue of 500 copies.

Review: Top Italo house diva of "Rhythm Of The Night" fame returns with a kick-ass new club track sure to please fans of first rate Italo-house and solid, soulful female vocals. The "Hollywood Boulevard mix" (8:47) and the "Novak vocal extended mix" (5:25) both blend old-school Italo house with contemporary house while the big-ass "Slice & Case remix" (6:30) puts the lady smack in the middle of a fierce electro house banger.

Review: Hard Beach Entertainment makes a bold return here with a strong various artists collection that is primed and ready for dance floors to reopen. Opium en's self-titled opener is a brilliant drug-addled, trance-inducing, old school post-rave future classic. Giorgio Celeste & The Cobra then bring some wonky tabla sounds to the loopy electro-tech of 'Crystal Meth' and 'Temple Track' transports you into an alternate acid dimension where everything is bright and blurry. Krijka's 'R Ball' is a superbly nimble new age techno workout and it completes an EP of tracks that are brilliantly high impact but never at the expense of real musical character.

Review: You'd be hard-pressed to find a collection of euro house and dance music more chock-full of hits than this. In the vein of the early 90s dance compilations, Music On Vinyl gathers two discs packed with landmark dance records and massively popular crossover tracks like Haddaway's 'What Is Love', 2 Unlimited's sports arena classic No Limit', Snap!'s timeless 'Rhythm Is A Dancer' and the worldwide hit 'Pump Up The Jam' by Technotronic. The great thing about this release is the inclusion of many other lesser known but memorable gems like T-Spoon 'Sex On The Beach' and Twenty 4 Seven's 'Slave To The Music'. A whopping 27 tracks in total to take you back to the days when dance music owned the airwaves and the clubs.

Review: A masterclass in haunting electrance from London-based producer Controlled Weirdness, who reigns in and exercises mastery over his own oddball production tendencies over the course of four tracks. Packed with sci-fidelity, an alternative future post-COVID New York is imagined here, as 'Corona Acid' bridges the neuronal gap between trance and booty bass, while 'Bleeker St' casually fires off a steady steam of laser blaster sounds. Serious electro heat.

Review: With a tracklisting taken from the golden years of 70's and 80's pop music, "U30 Party Volume 3" should gladden the heart of anyone who grew up in that era, with a stellar line-up of classic pop and rock.

It first appeared in stores in 1996, though its roots lie in a collaborative performance that took place atop a mountaintop in Tromso - Biosphere's home city - a year earlier. Alongside Bobby Bird of British ambient techno outfit Higher Intelligence Agency, the Norwegian crafted a unique live show that blended chilly, windswept ambient textures and gently unfurling electronic melodies with re-processed field recordings of Tromso and its surroundings. As an album, "Polar Sequences" subtly refined and reworked this performance with breathtaking and spellbinding results. This reissue contains all six tracks from the original release, as well as a worthy bonus: the original 14-minute field recording that provided the basis for the original live show.

Review: Discophilia Belgica is a collection of 'next-door-disco and local spacemusic' from Belgium circa 1975-1987 - compiled by Loud E & The Wild. The compilation is not indicative of any actual 'scene', as most of the bands featured had probably never performed live. The selection of tracks featured here are the result of a decade of crate digging in flea markets, charity shops and vinyl trades - picking out what might appeal to a contemporary dancefloor or just to their own eccentric tastes. Highlights include R. Roland's French-pop inspired "Ethero-Disco" and Carl Watson's sleazy jazz-flute heavy "King Kong" to the C.C. Band's disco floor filler "Be My Love Tonight".

Review: Budapest's Norwell has had a great run of releases on Farbwechsel, New Flesh and his newly inaugurated CRISIS recently which further displayed his penchant for ice-cold noir electro antics. The Interkosmos EP is his second release this year on Belfast's Computer Controlled, where he executes yet more of his retro-flavoured exploits. Featuring such majestic industrial acid journeys like "Solar Wind", through to gritty electro-techno crossover as heard on "Soyuz 36" that's reminiscent of Miss Kittin & The Hacker's anthems from the turn of the millennium, through to banging Viewlexx/Murder Capital style tributes like "Coronas I".

Review: As thousands of clubbers prepare to pack their bags and head off on their holidays, Hed Kandi unleashes the latest volume in its summer-themed Beach House series. By now, we should all know what to expect: an accessible, fun-filled mix of funky soulful house, melodic deepness and bumpin', disco-influenced floor fillers - with the odd nod to gospel, Latin and boogie flavas. If you're looking for an easy listen to accompany lazy days down the beach or long sessions sipping ice cold cocktails by the pool, you can't go far wrong - even if some of the selections ("Most Precious Love", "Finally" etc) are a touch on the over familiar side.

Review: The Analogue Copes, made up of the part machine-part man duo that is Lucretio and Marieu, have now solidly established themselves at the base of contemporary house and techno. Moreover, the pair have, and always have had, an instantly recognizable sound; their hardware approach and funky yet driving grooves are always a pleasure on both the Juno HQ speakers and the ol' Funktion One's. For their latest outing on the UK's Hypercolour imprint, they've chosen to deliver two tracks each: Lucretio comes through with the disco-filtered stabs of "Vampire Killer", and the 80's electro number "Shinobi World", while Marieu goes deeper and housier on "Corona", but leaves the funky servings for last on the excellent sample-fueled "McGraw". Quality, as per usual, from the Coppers.

Review: As with previous editions of DJ Kicks, this double vinyl accompaniment to Nina Kraviz's debut on the long running mix series does not feature all 29 tracks from the fully mixed CD edition. Instead some eight highlights have been chosen to complement those that featured on The Deviant Octopus, a double pack that opened proceedings on the Siberian artist's new label endeavour ????. There is a healthy amount of fine electronic music to enjoy on these two vinyl platters, opening with "Mystery" from Miss Kraviz herself and taking in contributions from Plaid, Armando, DJ Bone, and Polygon Window. The dons at K7! have even thrown in a copy of the mix on CD too. Kraviz completists will be all over this.

Review: Before he released 8 and 9 as two separate vinyl albums, Prins Thomas opined that it marked his best work to date. Gathered here for the first time on a single CD, it's hard to quibble with his assessment. For starters, the collected tracks arguably offer the strongest fusion yet of the various musical threads that have long been present in his work - think sun-soaked Balearica, synthesizer-driven krautrock, dub disco, punk-funk, cosmic rock, loose-limbed grooves and wide-eyed, sunrise-ready electronic psychedelia. Highlights include the acoustic-meets-acid wonder of 'Cala Lunga', the sun-bright, slowly rising rush of 'Evig Ung', the rubbery and cosmic chug of 'Earthbound' and the heavily electronic bliss of 'I Love U'.

Review: Proud vinyl purists Mate Ltd. hail from Spain, and here their latest foray into cutting-edge minimal house is presented, angel-investing in the fresh producer One Plus 1. Named after a Phoenician cave in Spain famous for its dedication to a goddess founder of the ancient city of Carthage, the music found on this EP is aptly meditative, serene and numinous. As if scouring the dry depths of a cavern with a portable scanner, the four tracks here slosh, undulate through blue-noted ambient soundscapes, arpy repetitions, and knocky/wonky beat structures.

The main feature here are 2 mixes from John Creamer protege, Lance Jordan, taking a leaf out of his mentor's book with a stellar progressive houser that centers on a great female vocal, while hooky synths, solid bass, and crisp beats all assist. His dub mix features throbbing delays galore for a deep, funkier groover. Jordan then teams up with Cullenberg for a gritty electro-house version before the "Am Corona mix" rounds things out with another peaktime proggy take.

Review: Bigeneric aka Marco Repetto is a legendary producer who returns to the same Swiss label that put out his The Compilation album three years ago. This time out the man of many different allies (Planet Love, Sinbiotik, Marco Repetto) assembles a vital bundle of beautiful and well preserved techno and ambient tracks that make for a cohesive listen and were all produced between 1995 and 1999. Some are delightfully light and airy, others dark and moody, others caustic and textured.

Review: Hot on the heels of the release of his critically acclaimed autobiography, long-serving pop experimentalist Momus delivers his 29th solo set, Vivid - an album that's already being praised as one of his finest in years. It's certainly an enjoyable set, with the Scottish singer-songwriter musing on a variety of topics - many related to the current global Coronavirus pandemic - over eccentric, soft-focus musical backdrops notable for their varied and in some cases unusual blends of instruments (think lo-fi drum machine rhythms, wayward jazz horns, snaking electronics, accordions, folksy string quartets etc.). It's a hard album to pin down, but with Momus on top form lyrically and vocally, that's no bad thing.

Review: Japanese hip-hop group Gagle first put out their Slow But Steady album in 2010, but only on CD. It's since become a mini cult classic that has long been wanted on vinyl, so finally Pony Canyon and HMV Japan have acquiesced. Produced by DJ Mitsu the Beats there are strong jazz elements to sunny instrumentals like "Round N Round" while "Corona & Lime" (feat Bonnie Pink) is a classic era neo soul gem with buttery vocals and romantic beats. "Rapkyounouta" explores a more 80s tinged rap vibe with harsher breaks, and there is also uptempo funk and stoner hip hop across the rest of the four sides of vinyl.

Review: The small but already well-formed Innate label offers up a superb split EP for its sixth outing. Gilbert opens up with 'Low Flying Objects', a widescreen and serene bit of synth-laden tendon with more than a hint of Motor City soul over the dusty drums. 'Unknown Entities' is a brain-cleansing and celestial electro-styled cut with dreamy pads and cinematic deepness. Bristol-born, Welsh-rooted Owain K then steps up to the flip with equally painterly sounds. 'Corona Borealis' pairs deep and rubbery bass with crisp electro drum patterns and far-sighted chords. 'New Horizon' then closes out with some delightfully dozy deep house that's laden with wispy chords and undulating bass.

Review: New York's Rosko contributing the solid dancefloor vocal "Milkbone" to this dark four-tracker from the Dusk label. Very effective and catchy, "Milkbone" has been causing a stir on the dancefloors with its cool vocal and tough set of electro and house mixes. Lance Jordan and Milly De Mori collaborate on the pulsating and techy original, while DJ Fame takes things dark and dirty on his "Get Boned" mix and AM Corona keep things pumping and proggy. Solid stuff all around - this will appeal to the Astro & Glyde, Sander K and Deep Dish heads.
