Review: Romanian powerhouse All Inn returns to its intermittent Limited series for another pair of anonymous edits that pile the hooks on with a deft touch to create a fiery atmosphere in the context of the stripped down house scene the label operates in. Billed as a tribute to Eva Cassidy and Curtis Mayfield, "People Get Ready" takes a deadly piano loop and works the respective vocals with the skill required to make an edit stand on its own two feet. The dub mix on the flip homes in on the melodic loops for a more heads-down end result, but whichever side you pick the results are likely to be rapturous in the kind of parties that last for two days or more.

Review: No one makes house music as steamy and rapturous as Floorplan aka Detroit's Robert Hood and his daughter Lyric. And there are few better labels for it than Classic, who now serve up this superb three tracker. 'Get My Mansion Ready' is family in structure - chunky but simple drums with a sermon-style vocal over the top and warm organ chords. 'Out Of Control' gets a little more loose with clattering hits broken bass loops, but still a church-like vocal. To finish off, Hood serves up a dub of 'Get My Mansion Ready' that has more turbocharged chords and even more uplifting energy.

Review: From the late nineties onwards, the Tito Lopez Combo has been serving up their fresh take on funk across six albums and a bunch of EPs. Now they serve up a brand new and red hot 7" for Swiss label Burning Sole. 'Get Ready Everybody' features Mel Superbad Day and has hard horn, taught guitars and fluttering flutes bringing the soul way up top over the tight rhythm section. Review: The SOS band is one of disco's most loved outfits. They always bring plenty of funk and soul to their work and have a signature sound that is feel good and sultry. This time their latest comeback single 'Just Get Ready' gets a fresh lick from legendary remixer Ben Liebrand. His opening funk groove version is all glossy vocals, rich chords and nice fat bass riffs. Michael Grey then offers an even brighter, more optimistic version before Liebrand then closes out with a Classic Groove. Review: Taken from Rinocerose's "Schizophrenia" album which never saw a vinyl release, this Plant offering features four rocking joints with "Get Ready Now" kicking it all off. The track features Nuutti from NYC synth rockers Dead Combo (Output) and a punky aggressive attitude which will go over big time with fans of the Rapture, Boyz Noise and Midnight Mike. Next up is a joint production from Rinocerose and Shakedown which features Dominique from The Glass on vocals, more rocking dance/rock hybrid action with grinding bass, funky and aggressive guitars and Dominique's oh so catchy vocals. On the flip is "Pleasure & Pain" has a wicked New Order meets Marathon Man vibe with a slick backing breakbeat and vocals coming from Ride's Mark Gardener. Rounding off the EP is "Fiction Dancer" a track that borrows some AC/DC guitar riffs and features Florian Brinker on vocals.

Review: What could happen when Miss Jale, (a make up artist and stylist, in NYC for fashion week), and Sven Schoene, (a recording artist for renowned labels such as Mouse T's Peppermint Jam, Ralf Gums GoGo label, and the Berlins Komfort Musik label) just happen to meet each other at a New York City airport while waiting in the departure lounge to catch their flights home to Europe? Especially when it comes out in conversation that she is a singer as well, and he just happens to have an albums worth of really fine music that seems to be lacking that finishing touch that could elevate it from good to great! What happens is a project called "Jester" and their debut 10 track long player, a release which takes us on a journey through lounge, jazz, and easy listening soundscapes, whilst incorporating soul, rap, and jazz-funk with just a touch of electronic dub. Variety is defiantly the spice of life as portrayed in this release, especially when each ingredient is used just at the right moment, just the right amount.

Review: There are an awful lot of great records in the J Dilla's catalogue, but few can match the consistent quality and coherent construction of Welcome 2 Detroit, his 2001 breakthrough album. Designed as a love letter to his home city with a sample palette and blend of styles to match, it saw the late producer and a string of then largely unknown local MCs showcase their vocal talents over some of his best ever beats. This lusciously expansive 20th anniversary box set does a brilliant job in expanding on the original album, with the 12 included "45s" pairing vocal mixes with instrumentals, unreleased cuts and occasional remixes. The included hardback book is brilliant, too, and packed with first-hand accounts of the creation of a now iconic LP.

Review: Since the early 90s, Ministry of Sound's yearly Annual compilations have done an excellent job in chronicling crossover dance hits, mainstream dancefloor killers, and popular underground workouts that make their way into the wider public consciousness. This year's edition (confusingly dated 2024, despite being released in late 2023) continues the successful franchise via two unmixed discs of radio-friendly dance favourites. Review: Alton Ellis is known as the Godfather of Rocksteady and has put out several key albums such as Mr Soul Of Jamaica from 1967. The genre innovator has the smoothest of smooth voices and shows that again on Sings Rock & Soul, which is actually heavy on the soul and light on the rock. Review: It's hard to imagine what minimal techno artists like Gary Beck and Spain's Paco Osuna are doing on a Defected compilation. However, Beck's contributions display none of his usual white knuckle fury, and the rolling grooves of "Hands in Mine" and "Get Down" are full of seductive vocals and filters. The same can be said of Osuna's collaboration with Daniel Sanchez, a deep, summery groove propelled by a sexy filter. There are darker moments on this compilation, like Riva Starr's own bleepy, analogue version of Cajmere's "Percolator", but in the main, it focuses on the style favoured by Osuna, Beck and the ivory tinkling, jazzy nuanced tracks from Guti & Dubshape, Santos and Deniz Kurtel.

Review: Two years after Congo Natty announced the jungle revolution on Big Dada, he's back with yet another paradigm shifting selection. Review: London's Horse Meat Disco club really has beaten all comers in the -disco stakes: if a decade of packed parties, international DJ gigs and bringing the disco sleaze to Rinse FM isn't enough, they now deliver their fourth(!) compilation for Strut Records. James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Luke Howard and Severino all share the selection of a 16-strong tracklist, which also appears in mixed form too. Highlights include the quirky Chaka Khan-esque "Ain't No Way" by Opal, the sumptuous luxury vibes of "Stop" by Valery Allington and the legendary low-slung bass-fest "Barah" by Cleavage.
