*** Firmware update June 2023 ***

If you just bought your Midi Fighter Twister or haven't used the utility in a while chances are you might need to update it's firmware with the latest and greatest. This is a fairly straightforward process as long as you take some extra precautions.

1. Download and install the MF Utility if you don't have it already on your computer (PC/Mac).

2. After you check that any other MIDI related applications (Ableton, Traktor, etc) are closed connect your Twister directly to your computer and open the MF Utility. DO NOT USE A USB HUB

3. Click on "File>Export Settings" and select a destination, this will back up your Twister's settings if you have customized your Twister beforehand and make sure you export it outside of the "Midi Fighter Utility" folder since your OS might lock this location and prevent the MFS file from being generated successfully. If you just got your Twister you can skip this step.

4. If a new firmware is available for your device you should see a message in the utility as soon as your device is detected.

5. Click on the orange UPDATE FIRMWARE button and accept the pop up message warning you not to use a USB hub.

6. Once this process finishes your device will reboot and the MF Utility will now show it has successfully updated the firmware!

This 6HP Module can digitally translate data between a ConVertor E1's pitch, ENV & gate, turning them into MIDI commands while adding a few functions of its own. Translating a ConVertor E1's pitch, ENV, gate, and giving you MIDI output. Up to 6 parallel ConVertor E1's can be connected at one time for remote preset switching, arpeggio, sustain pedal, and polyphonic operation. via Sonicsmith's newly developed, parallel high-speed, "Sonicsmith bus" which runs on a 4-pin header connection. the ConVertor E1 can connect to the corresponding bay in the MIDVertor E1 and become a remotely-controlled single voice or grouped together with other connected ConVetor E1's for a larger, more capable system. The digital pitch stream on the Sonicsmith bus is 16-bit so is MIDI 2.0 ready. Tailored from the ground up for the ultimate in efficiency, speed and stability. High attention to detail makes this a professional musician tool that performs functions of a few modules right out of the box saved/recalled from presets for a "plug and play" live performance/expansive studio sessions. After connecting the 4-pin header connection, the MIDVertor auto-detects which device is connected to either of its 6 "Sonicsmith bus" connections. Immediately offering MIDI output from the audio input of the ConVertor. Arpeggiation to any connected ConVertor E1 is also available and will be arpeggiate the MIDI out as well as arpeggiate the ConVertor E1 SYNTH outputs. When more than 1 ConVertor E1 is connected at one time, the user can split the ConVertor E1's into groups that will unify their operation regarding preset switching, sustain/expression pedal modulation, arpeggio and more. More E1 series modules maybe coming in near future for shared presets/routing.

The MIDVertor is an open source code device that invites DIY programmers to tailor a custom Firmware if more or fewer features are desired. Also, its device mini USB connection can help with preset management and firmware updates remotely to one or more ConVertor E1's at once, saving time with polyphonic group updates.

Why:

Multiple fixed waveforms - use the individual LPGs as a CV scanner.
Stereo sources - control them with a single CV input.
EOC pulses and triggers - this is where it gets percussive.
Slow modulations - take advantage of those vactrols and their natural decay.

How:

"I", the inputs row is normalized from top to bottom.

An input inserted in the first socket will be copied unaltered to the next one.

If a jack is plugged in it will break the normalization.

"V" is for control voltages and they cascade the same way as the inputs following to natural decay of the vactrol response. All the LPGs can be opened simultaneously with a single CV source. Combining the features of both "I" and "V" rows you can control a signal with 8 different CVs or 8 different sources with the same CV.

"O" stands for outputs. They act as an active mixer letting you combine up to 8 signals. As in the previous two rows, the connection can be interrupted in any given point to create sub mixes or individual outputs.

Since Jolin are actively summing copies of the original input, each LPG stage will add saturation to the final out. Thanks to the open design path and normalizations this is just an additional feature: all the LPGs can still be used individually or in multiple combinations for multichannel effects or other creative application. More AGOGOs can be chained together thanks to headers on the back to multiplicate the number of inputs/outputs.

Notes: EROS - Boost / 3-Band EQ

EROS is not your typical boost. It will boost clean without overdrive, add a little grit, or add distortion.

It has a 3-band active EQ for precision sculpting.

Place it in front of your amp or pre-amp to add volume or grit to a clean or crunch channel. Or, sculpt your amp's distortion response, as you would with a typical boost. However, you're no longer limited to a narrow frequency range dictated by a single tone control found on a lot of classic boosts.
Similarly, use it before or after the CERES / VESTA or any other pre-amp for even more control over its tones, and in order to get the most out of it based on your power amp situation.

This is not "just another TS style boost," therefore it should not be setup in that way. e.g. don't crank the Level and cut the Gain. Start with both at noon and go from there. The Feel (tight/fat/thick) and Mode (clean/clip/dirt) switches will lose effectiveness the lower the Gain control is set.

Further, the higher Level is cranked the more internal distortion can be generated in the last gain stage, and therefore it will add distortion within the EROS coupled with a higher Gain setting. With a lower Gain setting the last stage will remain unclipped, but a huge signal will slam the front end of any amp. This can be too large a signal to achieve your desired sound. e.g. too much saturation due to lack of headroom in the amp's first stage.

Notes: HERA - Transparent Boost with active 3-band EQ

Like the KSR EROS, HERA is not your typical boost. Where the EROS was designed for playing drop-tuned extended range guitar into the muddiest of amps, the HERA is completely different. HERA is designed to push any amp with more typical standard tunings. This pedal is transparent and the low-end is full, yet clear. It will boost clean without overdrive, add a little grit, or add distortion. HERA has a 3-band active EQ for precision sculpting.

Use it in front to add volume or grit to a clean or crunch channel. Or, put it in the loop for some unique boosting and EQ response changes. Similarly, use HERA before or after the CERES / VESTA or other preamp for even more control over its tones, and in order to get the most out of it based on your power amp situation.

The LIVEN Lofi-12 has a 16bit - 12kHz/24kHz sampling engine with the 12bit Sampler mode that will turn any sound into a pleasing lo-fi sound.

Like the many legendary samplers that were released in the late 80s, this is a genuine low-bit and low sampling frequency sound that cannot be obtained authentically with bit crusher effects and other modern sound degrading tools.

Up to 4 seconds mono sampling per sample slot (2 seconds mono sampling at the 24kHz mode). Start and end point trimming, pitch adjustment, reverse playback, sustain loop, filtering and LFO modulation are all possible.

Its unique core adds character and color to any signal passed through it.

The LedPressor can be used as a normal compressor with low input levels, but as the input volume increases and the "nuke" LED lights up, it enters a new territory that combines compressor and overdrive, creating a dynamic overdrive effect.

Get it pumping with the side chain

The module features an external sidechain input that accepts audio and CV signals. Only the sidechain signal passes through a high pass filter, which gives the user greater control over the sound shape. The audio signal itself is not affected by the filter.

Parallel compression

Notes: SetonixSynth's Laka is a powerful, multi-functional and extraordinarily flexible hub for flipping, offsetting, combining, and re-routing voltage signals throughout a Eurorack modular system of any size. Equally at home manipulating audio or control voltages, Laka will quickly make itself at home in the thick of each and every patch, with its uses limited mostly by imagination.

Each of Laka's four channels offers a separate high-headroom bi-polar CV processor (also known as an attenuverter) with its own offset, perfect for "dialling in" a signal for optimal use with other modules. Each channel offers a high degree of control including a "Zero" switch and bi-colour LED indicator. The "solo" output of each channel is available at all times via its own output jack, but the channels are also available in various mixtures via the three Submix outputs (A+B, B+C, C+D) and main Mix output (A+B+C+D).

The four Channel outputs are also combined in a more novel way via the Sequential section. The right side of the module is dedicated to selecting one of the four Channel outputs and routing it to the Sequential output. This section is controlled by a high-quality manual pushbutton, a Clock input capable of operating at audio rates, a Reset logic input, and a switch controlling the number of steps. This section allows a user to create complex CV waveforms from the four Channels, flip through audio, "audition" new sounds or signals, and numerous other functions.

Endless Processor is a dual-channel infinite sound sustainer machine.

Put your favourite instruments, unique timbres, or field recordings - virtually any sound - and make it last forever.

It is not a looper in the usual sense - Endless Processor resynthesizes your sounds to create a perfect clickless stream while preserving the timbral and tonal character of the original.

Endless Processor always listens to audio input and keeps a most recent history. Experiment with sustaining little bits of a sample or make a massive wall of sound with the ability to select how much memorized audio to process.

Stack your sounds to create harmonies, textures, or drones with 5 layers per channel. Each layer can be re-processed or cleared while keeping other ones in place. Set fade-in and fade-out time to quickly or gradually introduce a new layer or remove the existing one.

Beads is a reinvention of Mutable Instruments' Clouds.

The concept is the same, live granular processing of an incoming audio signal, and the labels on the panel remain familiar.

The similarities stop here. The hardware and software have been redesigned from the ground up, with several goals in mind: a crisper and broader sound palette, more control, better playability, and direct access to exciting new features.

Beads' vastly improved specifications allow a higher audio quality, a longer buffer, the use of better interpolation and anti-aliasing algorithms, and key DSP blocks to run at a faster rate. Granular processing can now go to new territories, such as formants, wavetables, hard-sync-like sounds, or crispy noise.

The range of parameters, their response to the turn of a knob or a CV modulation have all been refined, for new possibilities such as reverse playback or percussive envelopes.

Control. To trigger or schedule grains, Beads provides new features to divide or randomize an external clock or trigger stream, spray bursts of grains in response to a gate, or get the grain rate to track a V/O CV or the frequency of an external oscillator.

Chaos. Each key parameter of a grain comes with its own attenurandomizer, which allows direct CV control, CV control of the randomization (spread) of this parameter, or internal randomization using some of Marbles' algorithms.

Character. Beads provides four audio quality settings, which go well beyond buffer sample rate and bit-depth: they affect the clock of the converters, the amplitude limiting and saturation of the signal path, the tone of the reverb, and additional media-emulation effects. From a pristine digital device to a dirty cassette, through a mode reproducing some of Clouds' characteristics.

Beads can operate as a delay without the need to switch to a different mode: just ask it to play a never-ending grain. Its DENSITY, TIME and SEED controls are repurposed to allow various features such as tap-tempo, beat slicing, time-stretching, or comb-filtering at rates tracking V/O.

Without any audio input, Beads will granularize 8 internal banks of wavetables.

The Swap functions on the modules are both useful for transitioning between sound scenes or creative applications. To change the swap modes on Supamix, press the Shift button and one of the mutes. If you press the Swap button, it will activate the swap manually. The following are the swap modes available.

1 -> Scene change gate : Reverse the mutes states when a gate is high
2 -> Scene change trig : reverse the mutes state when trigged (or if the swap button is pushed)
3 -> Binary counter : CV input between 0 and 5v will correspond to a 6 bit binary counter. At 0v mutes will be all oo, 5v will be all open. And it will count as follow :100000 010000 110000.....
4 -> Randomizer: Trigg to randomize the mutes. You can change the probability of having the mutes on by using a trigger between 2 and 5v.
5 -> Sequencer: Trig to go one step further. It reverse the current step mute state.
6 -> State rotation: Rotate the mute state 0v there isn't rotation, 5v is a full cycle rotation. This shift the mutes state (last one goes to first one)

The Domino is an analogue all-in-one synth voice with saw/square wave oscillator, ladder type low pass filter, envelope and VCA - it is designed for pure beefiness and grunt in the low end department. It excels at basslines, acid, kicks and low throbbing drones.

The core of the module is a dual waveforms oscillator with saw and square. The pulse width of the square can be modulated with the PWM input.

The pitch knob over a range is of 1 octave, designed to be used primarily in lower ranges. The CV input control the oscillator pitch in v/oct but is also normalised to the f Mod input. When the f mod potentiometer is fully open, the filter can be controlled in v/oct. Since the filter as self-oscillation capabilities, you can also use it as an oscillator.

The decay envelope is controlling the filter cutoff and is normalized to the oscillator pitch input.

The Domino provides two envelopes control options with its gate>VCA and envelope>VCA switch, allowing you to choose between using a gate signal or the decay envelope to shape the VCA response.

The Mix knob enables blending between the saw and square waves. Connect external sound sources to the Mix 1 and Mix 2 inputs to replace the saw wave and square wave, respectively.

This module also provides the dry oscillator waveforms output as well as the envelope output.

Notes: The Skorn da Bask table top module is the same module as the eurorack version but in a hammond 1590BB enclosure and aluminium panel, it can be powered thru a 2,1mm negative pin power jack, compatible with Boss and Ibanez standard power supplies.

Thanks to their routing options, the VCOs can not only be used to generate audio signals, but for modulating the VCF's cutoff frequency as well. Besides processing internally produced saw tooth waves, the filter is also usable for editing sound coming from other modules. Typical Touell Skouarn, the Skorn da Bask distorts like hell. Primary application: The creation of dirty, experimental sound structures and abstract rhythms.

The front panel of Skorn da Bask shows three areas highlighted in red. These zones contain the connectors and control elements for the oscillators. Each VCO comes equipped with a pitch CV input, a tune potentiometer and two switches for defining the routing as well as the frequency range used. In detail, the oscillators can be connected to the audio or CV input of the filter. Thanks to their range switches, each VCO is able to work with audio or low frequency rates. The pitch input does not follow the standard 1v per octave.

After all, Skorn da Bask is not an ordinary oscillator module, but an experimental sound generator.

The low pass filter features a slope of 24 dB per octave. A potentiometer named FreqaNs regulates the circuit's cutoff parameter, Dasson sets the resonance. For processing external signals, there is an audio input. As long as a cable is plugged into this socket, the VCOs are disconnected from the filter's audio path. Third-company modules, like an envelope or LFO, can influence the VCF's frequency via a CV input. For damping modulation signals coming from the oscillators, there is an attenuator knob. The audio output is equipped with a level potentiometer. High settings lead to juicy overdrive effects.

The Grainity brings a unique and never-heard-before concept to the world of analogue VCF.

While being based on analogue filtering only, the Grainity expands and enriches the sound in creating subharmonics, harmonies, unison, flanging effects and formant filtering all at once.

The module presents two sections, the granular filter itself and a typical multimode filter, each with its own output.

A third output offers a mix of both filter paths. Numerous controls and CV allow a very wide palette of results.

What is the Grainity

Granular?

The word granular was chosen for this filter module in relation to the concept invented by the composer Yannis Xenakis, and which is described as assembling small chops of sounds - he called grains - according to a pattern.

This is exactly what the Grainity does, no more no less ... but, digital control allows doing it in ways that are decades away from what tape and scissors allowed at the time.

Technology wise ...

In the granular section, the incoming sound cycle is determined in order to step through various filtering and phase variations of itself according to predefined patterns called structures.

The controls allow alterations to the cycling phase, cycling frequency offset (tuning), structure selection and frequency division of the filters cycling. This comes in addition to the usual filter frequency and resonance controls.

What the Grainity is not

Technology wise ...

Despite relying on a microprocessor, the Grainity is not a digital audio processor. At any time, the sound remains in the analogue domain and goes through analogue circuits from in to out.

The digital processor does not convert or generate audio signals; it is there to control the analogue circuitry and manage the interface and display.

Sound wise ...

Several digital modules offering granular processing rely on the layering of sound grains, which leads to blurry and cloudy textures.

Layering of the grains is a late addition to the concept of granular synthesis and is not a mandatory feature of the concept.

The Grainity does not use delay lines or sampling memory but is nevertheless true to the foundations of the granular synthesis concept.

The granular VCF in the Grainity is unconventional in that, most of times, it is not filtering the sound in the common expectation of removing something. Typically, the granular process adds more than it removes by expanding both the lower range, creating subharmonics, and the upper harmonic contents in multiples ways.

The CalTrans solves issues encountered when playing tonal music with a modular system: tracking problems, curves unrelated to Volt per octave ratio, limited octave range, cumbersome transpose, ...

The CalTrans corrects and expands the range of troublesome VCOs and brings V/Oct tracking to anything that oscillates.

Besides calibration, the CalTrans offers live play features. Each channel can be quantized and any combination of them transposed jointly.

A pair of rotary encoders with detent allow an precise selection of octaves and semitones.

VCOs whose tracking doesn't go high enough to follow the leader will see their pitch repositioned in their highest possible octave so that the global harmony is unaffected.

You can add a pinch of portamento and glissando to each channel and save the whole in user presets.

Firmware 1.17 offers:
* User editable input scaling to match sources that don't generate perfect 1V per octave signals.
* Complete rewrite of the main processing with higher precision.
* ... and the unavoidable fixes and tweaks ;-)

Notes: Describing Univer Inter as merely a MIDI-to-CV module falls short of its immense potential. It serves as an all-encompassing MIDI-to-any-format converter, elegantly packed into a compact 6 HP unit. Connect to your gear via USB B or TRS MIDI, or use the included adapter to plug straight into those 5-pin DIN connecters we all know and love. Whether you're looking to map clock, note, CC, aftertouch or something else that MIDI can encode, UI can do it: we built in over 20 settings for each of the 8 outputs.

Want to control a pair of monophonic voices, complete with velocity and aftertouch? No problem. How about a polyphonic setup, with gate and pitch per voice? Easy. Need to synchronize an in-the-rack sequencer with your DAW or a MIDI clock? UI has you covered.

Eight outputs isn't enough, you say? Chain two UI together via their front-panel MIDI ports and a TRS cable for 16 - you read that right, 16 - configurable CV outputs from a single MIDI connection. The possibilities are endless.

Noise Engineering also made configuration simple via the front-panel USB connection and the easy-to-use Univer Inter section on the Noise Engineering Customer Portal. Go wild and set each channel to any output option you need, or just use one of our simple presets. Configuration files can also be saved as sysex files for easy backup and sharing.

Constructed from solid 9mm thick plywood, the outside is laminated in a black finished honeycomb/ hexagonal "Stage Grip" pattern.
