Review: 0860 is a project by Charlie Fieber, aka Fracture, inspired by London Pirate Radio. Thus far the series has seen to the release of cassettes, vinyl records and radio broadcasts, largely consisting of jungle tunes peppered with electrifying samples from legitimately old pirate radio broadcasts. There's something mystically captivating about the narration of jungle and drum & bass by its makers. Broadcast to everyone who drove cars or owned an FM radio, drum n' bass in the 1990s was one of many sonic languages that expressed manufactured, industrial movement, and by speaking over it, it renegade makers were essentially guiding us through the magic. This new 2xLP is the most definitive statement of the 8060 series so far.

Review: Reaching 10 years old is no mean feat so Soul Deep Recordings do right to celebrate in style. They have put together a bumper anniversary LP and now tease it with this superb eight track sampler. It features some of drum & bass's main players and Soul Deep's finest artists such as Furney, Decon, Dramatic, and many more. There are super sweet rollers, jump up bangers and everything in between. After the sampler come two further albums which continue to celebrate this label's fine achievements.

Review: Big up to Innerground Music for hitting then so insignificant milestone of 100 releases. To celebrate they serve up a bumper bounty of drum & bass brilliance across two slabs of wax. South American legend DJ Marky opens with a nice silky roller and a soulful vocal that will immediately get the good times going. Data 3's 'String Theory' is a more minimal and stripped-back stepper and then it's all-out good time celebrations with the kinetic 'Patty Melt' from Random Movement. Elsewhere Carlito's 'About You' is a nice shadowy viber with hunting keys and Fluidity & Loz Contreras combine to great effect on 'Back To You.'

Review: You will probably know by now that Detroit's Filthiest is Julian Shamou, aka 313 Bass Mechanics amongst many other names. He is a music-making machine who deals mostly with electro on a wide range of labels. It is French crew Casa Voyager who tap him up here for an immersive full-length that finds him expanding his sound to take in moments away from the heart of a peak-time dancefloor amongst plenty of his usual weaponry. There are smooth electro vocal cuts, crunchy and sleazy ghetto cuts and soulful almost jungle rollers for deeper workouts making for his most complete work yet.

Review: Currently neck-deep in Blueskin Badger reissues and brand new productions, Syko takes time to reflect on the contributions he made to that golden transition between hardcore and jungle with Mak. Also known as Persons Unknown, their tunes were championed by the likes of Bukem and Rider and played a huge role in the phenomenon that was happening at the time. Here, spread generously across two 12"s are eight examples. Three from 92 ('Urban Sunrise', 'Journey Into The Nebulous' and 'Here & Now') and five unreleased dubs from a little later in jungle's progression, all of which have remained on DAT until now. Grab a slice of fresh history.

Review: 15 years! Time flies when you're flexing the full spectrum of drum & bass. Friction's label has been one of the 2000s' best independent D&B label success stories, spawning two super-strong generations of the genre in the process. So many of today's most influential acts came through under the Shogun wing and dominate the scene and this album reflects why that happened. From the shattering soul of Monrroe's "Never Too Old" and DJ Marky & Pola & Bryson's deep tech-influenced roller "Into The Blue" to the brilliantly dark (and titled) "Smelly Button" from Skeptical and SP and Proxima's brutal "Limestone", this album - presented in full on heavyweight vinyl - "15 Years Of Shogun Audio" digs deep into everything that's made it stay so consistent over the years and remain future-focused. Here's to another 15 years.

Review: It's been 10 years since Alix Perez blessed the world with his debut album "1984". To celebrate, Shogun Audio are re-releasing the album with all tracks available on vinyl for the first time and it sounds every bit as good as you'd hoped it would. A stark statement of intent that's aged incredibly well, this is where the London Belgian sowed some of his deepest seeds; from the beat variation and playful twists of space on tracks like "Voices" to the evergreen soul of "Forsaken" (still the only Peven Everett-fronted drum & bass track to this date) via the glitchy grime of "Calm Of Cast", it was clear, even back then, that Alix would go on to set whole new levels and benchmarks. This is a pivotal slice of history.

Review: Is the d&b world ready for the return of Chase & Status? We think so, as the major label duo bounce back in double quick time to follow up on last year's What Came Before. As the title implies, Ruff Cuts finds Saul Milton and Will Kennard digging in for some rapid response bombs that build on their reputation as stadium-sized breakbeat bossmen. With big MC guest spots from the likes of Hedex and ArrDee and the drops that make you check you've not stepped off a cliff, this is the sound of top tier d&b from a duo who have changed the game like few others.

Review: Delivered a year after Ivy Lab's inaugural volume, the trio's frontier-beat stable supersizes once again with a full crew ensemble: label regulars such as Deft, Shield, Havelock and Ivy Lab themselves are joined by infamous halftime murkers Fixate, Mr Frenkie, Sinistarr as we gear up for another futurist exploration of beats, space and bass. Highlights can be found on every track including the seasick swoons of Sinistarr's "#Accidental Deathing", Havelock's gully-galvanised juke stepper "Badbwoysound" and the tumbling, cascading almost drunken drum arrangement of Phazz's "Caution". Welcome to the future.

Commanding sky-high, sharky Discogs prices in recent years, the EP was a collaborative effort released on the producer's personal imprint Soul:r, and saw to some legendary collabs with Calibre, S.P.Y., D. Burke - and even a hot remix of Radiohead's 'Climbing Up The Walls'. Here comes the long-awaited reissue for DnB completists.

Review: CIA Records makes a quarter of a century in operation with this bumper triple pack. It shows just why the label has endured such is the freshness and range of sound on offer. It was launched initially in 1996, out of a necessity as Total Science aka producers Q-Project & Spinback wanted somewhere for their own tunes. It soon expanded to take in the best in the game and many of them feature here. From the smooth Calibre remix to open, via the silky minimal soul of 'Break' and correctly titled 'Raggamuffin Bizness' from Digital, this is one essential collection.

Review: Some of Metalheadz' selective '25 Years Of' anniversary editions have arrived in our mitts, shining a light on some of the best, earliest, and most characteristic drum & bass works by the label's many favourites. On part 9 here, select cuts by Doc Scott and Goldie's own Rufige Kru lay down a twin theme cleanliness and dirtiness respectively, both united by the theme of ghosts. Scott helms up the A with scratchy breaks and a wide void of headroom, emphasising punchiness above all with 'Ghost 25' and its unofficial version. Rufige's two bits, on the B, get much gritter with it - the wendigoes to Scott's banshees.

Review: This year marks three decades since the launch of Rage, the weekly London club night that not only made Fabio and Grooverider stars, but also proved hugely influential in the development of hardcore and jungle. To celebrate, the long-serving DJ duo is offering up an epic compilation of Rage favourites split over four double albums. Part One offers a great introduction to the series, flitting between familiar favourites (the throbbing, bass-heavy Dub of Leftfield's "Not Forgotten", Lennie De Ice's hardcore anthem "We Are I.E"), lesser celebrated gems (the dreamy deep house of One Tribe's "Is This All"), proto-jungle classics (Wots My Code's sub-heavy, bleep-sporting "Dubplate", Foul Play's lusciously hazy "Being With You") and genuine rude boy smashers (Noise Factory's "The Future").

Review: Deep in the trenches of the acid house revolution, Fabio & Grooverider were experimenting with a darker blend of sonics week in, week out at Rage, one of the UK's formative acid house nights. Detroit and Belgian techno, US house, UK breakbeats, hip-house, Sheffield bleeps were all in the mixing pot as they started to pioneer a sound that would eventually become jungle. Celebrating 30 years since this seminal event, they've curated a series of albums that join the dots between the movement's cornerstones. From Frankie Bones' "Just As Long As I Got You" (from his fabled Bonesbreaks series) to the much darker side of Balearic king Nightmares On Wax in the form of "Aftermath", these are some of the many key records Fabio & Grooverider dug for to create a culture that's just as strong now as it was when it began 30 years ago. One of a four part series, each one is a keeper.

Review: Travis Stewart, better known by his stage name Machine Drum, is an American electronic music producer who has been pushing the boundaries of drum and bass for over two decades now. Stewart's unique approach to rhythm and sound design has earned him a cult following among discerning music enthusiasts. Machine Drum's latest album, 3for82, is a testament to his minimalist aesthetic. Released on the respected Ninja Tune label, the album marks Stewart's return after a four-year hiatus. 3for82 showcases Machine Drum's signature blend of intricate drum patterns, atmospheric textures, and sparse melodies. The album features an eclectic mix of vocal artists, each contributing their own unique flavor to Stewart's sonic tapestry. From the catchy vocals of Tinashe on 'Zoom' to the slick style of rapper Deem Spencer on 'blessed', 3for82 is a testament to Stewart's collaborative spirit. Stewart's attention to detail is clear in every layer of the album, from the subtle shifts in rhythm to the evocative sound design. The result is a hypnotic and immersive experience that energizes the listener to an album full of memorable music. With 3for82, Machine Drum once again proves himself to be a master of his craft.

Review: Five years already!? Time flies when you're cultivating a community and crew of artists that range from deeply soulful D&B to gutter-chomping 140 business. All kept consistent and at seriously high levels, it's now hard to imagine a bass landscape without the presence of Alix Perez's label. To celebrate the label has put together this neat range of rework vibes over two 12"s. Ranging from the sweet vocal beauty of Break's remix of 'Moving On' to the bubblesome UKG of Sam Binga's remix of 'Melodrama' via Skeppy's 'too rough' take on 'Trinity', it's an exceptional release that highlights how expensive and inclusive 1985 has become. Modern day blueprint business.

Review: Lenzman's last project on The North Quarter was four years ago, so his return to the label is welcome indeed. On this super double 12" which was written over the course of three months, the artist tackles the emotions and challenges of a total change of rhythm and routine. Having overcome a void of inspiration he excels here with a mix of old recordings and found sounds, collaborative tunes and fresh new bespoke piano recordings. It is a warm, rolling album full of soul, with hip hop and drum & bass coming together in perfect harmony.

Review: Ten years after his debut solo album Gemini Principal, Exit bossman, D&B sage and ardent futurist Darren White tells us where he's at with his sophomore A Love I Can't Explain. Taking us several thousand leagues into his abyss, the vibe is heavy, moody, pensive and synthetic. Created on a whole arsenal of outboard machines, and not a sample in sight, this is dBridge in his most creative and narrative; political themes can be felt in the slo-mo autonomic purrs and glides of "Monitored Meanings", tension, pressure and hope combine somewhere in the distant future on the Lewis James collaboration "Violent Circuit Autonomy" while "Nachtlus" takes us even deeper into the machine where the distortion and textures are so strong you sense you can feel the circuits throbbing around you. Closing with his regular set opener "UR A Star" (a cover of his brother Steve Spacek) he leaves you writhing in the sudden twist of light at the end of a long dark tunnel. Immense, perplexing and built to last... This is an album we'll keep coming back to for years to come.

Review: It would be fair to say that this weighty, quadruple-vinyl compilation is a significant release. Not because of its epic nature - that's a bonus - but because it marks the return to action of Basement Records offshoot Precious Material after a 20-year absence. Back in the day, the early drum & bass imprint was famous for championing jazzy, musically rich and sample-free (or at least sample-light) music that pushed the boundaries of the then nascent genre. This collection of new and recent cuts naturally explores similar sonic territory, drawing together superb, floor-friendly but hugely listenable cuts from the likes of Paul SG, Headhunter, Jrunhand (whose "Wonsaponatime" is a highlight), Ray Keith and original label artist Jazz Juice (the latter with a previously unheard mix of a track from '97).

Review: To celebrate the 25th birthday of their celebrated debut album, A New Sound Spectacular, the Belgian band has decided to offer-up this selection of long-forgotten remixes of two tracks from the set, '2Wicky' and 'Inhaler', both of which were originally released on now delated 12" singles. The A-side highlight is undoubtedly DJ Pulse's terrifically spacey drum & bass revision of '2Wicky', though the heavy trip-hop psychedelia of the 'Not So Extended Hoovering' version is also surprisingly good. Over on the flip, you'll find two more D&B-inspired takes on 'Inhaler': a wonderfully deep and jazzy 'Mr Pink' revision courtesy of Pierre Job AKA Hector Zazou, and the band's own string-laden 'Drum & Orch' revision.

Prior albums for Northern Front and Western Lore have been masterclasses in their cinematic vision for brutalist breakbeat science, and now they're bringing that scope to the always-essential Dutch label Tempo. There are snarling slammers, pad-soaked dreamscapes and oddly-angled experiments which prove how much the Manchester duo are capable of. Pressed up on three heavyweight slabs and ready for your shelling pleasure, this is what upfront d&b is all about.

Review: Tommy The Cat pounces again with another essential double 12", this time on the E-Beamz label. 'Strange Nights' kicks off with a flurry of icy breaks and liquid bass that are finished off with some haunting distant pads. 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams' has a darker energy and more splash and crash to the drums, but also some introverted chords. Elsewhere there are more minimal pieces like 'After Sundown' and jazzy chord work defines 'Echo Chamber' with its sci-fi melodies. This is a perfect fusion of the past, present and future of drum & bass and it makes for quite the trip.

Review: Against A Dark Background is the latest album by UK drum & bass producer and DJ, Dom & Roland (real name Dominic Angas). One of the genre's many lesser-credited pioneers, he's a happy member of a cheeky tradition of artists: the kind whose name indicates they're a duo, but are actually a single individual. But that hasn't stopped him from putting out a steady stream of spacious, ethereal and high-concept drum & bass projects in recent years, with the latest addition to the inspiration-stream being this LP, which contains 11 tracks of dark atmospherics at rollicking average velocities of 170bpm, channelling influences from techno, dubstep and jungle to boot.

Bristol-based Brazilian S.P.Y has been in fine form this year, churning out the hits at a rate of knots. Here he serves up five more slammers to round off the well-received Alone in the Dark trilogy. Opener "Transmission" is undeniably one of his moth forthright tunes to date - a bombastic, riot-inducing anthem fuelled by thunderous electro bass and mind-altering riffs. There's also a tech-tinged feel to the rave-meets-D&B heaviness of "Transmission", while "Dominator Mode" contains some of his toughest drums to date. Elsewhere, "Lockdown" is a buzzing hum of throbbing energy and "Dreaming" tips a wink to the producer's liquid past via a wonderfully sauced-eyed fusion of blissful musicality and tight bottom-end pressure.

Review: Did you know that Iceland had its own rather influential rave scene back in the 1990s? Whatever the answer to that question, you will want to check out this first-ever collection of anthems from that era which is now on vinyl for the first time. This collection came on Thule offshoot label TMT Entertainment as a CD in 1992 and features memorable and timeless tracks from back then, many of them now with cult status. It's called Alsaela, which translates as "ecstasy" and gives you some idea of what to expect from it. It features a non-stop selection of old school rave alongside some lost and previously unavailable classics by Agzilla & DJ L.S.K and some unreleased gems from AJAX. A great bit of history that still does the trick.
