Memory Of 1990 EP
Memory Of 1990 EP (translucent orange marbled vinyl 12")

Techno
Altered Memory (7:16)
In My Memory (6:19)
Augmented Memory (7:02)
Blur My Memory (5:25)
Review: Planet Rhythm is a proper techno label so it makes sense that the eponymous production outfit makes techno that is just as proper. Here they step up with four more direct to dance floor cuts that are filled with all the potency you need despite their relatively minimal make up. 'Altered Memory' opens up with a polished and propulsive 90s techno sound before 'In My Memory' layers up unresolved and rather spooky loops and 'Augmented Memory' has a subtle trance edge that uplifts and soothes. 'Blur My Memory' gets dance on snappy breakbeats.

Matrix (5:40)
Suggestion (5:36)
Acryl (5:37)
Antagonist (5:09)
Review: Planet Rhythm's approach to techno is pure and simple, but always effective. The label's sub-series hits an eight relate here with Lenny San serving up some monstrous and macho dub tackle across both sides of this new white 12". 'Matrix' has grainy, gritty chords and hurling great kicks that cannot fail to make a vast warehouse march as one. 'Suggestion' is another economical yet efficient dub techno banger, 'Acryl' has subtle distortion and rusted metal texture bring the forceful groove to life and 'Antagonist' shuts down in fierce fashion.

Dominant (Hector Oaks remix) (5:35)
Spaz (5:02)
Fog Catcher (5:00)
Review: Fans of hard yet minimal techno will be pleasantly bowled over by 'Blk 20 24', the latest from Presion and Yan Cook. The A-side is delightfully rough-edged and cruddy, while the B is clearer-headed and foggy, each side of the vinyl recalling the feeling of being on the inside and outside of an alien spacecraft respectively. Hector Oaks' remix of 'Dominant', meanwhile, is packed with metallic growls, scrapes and creaks that mark its transitions; an unusual yet riveting choice from the artist.

Voice From The Outerworld (5:41)
Unknown Depths (4:54)
Clouds (4:47)
Deep Space (5:57)
Review: Minimal three-lettered maestros SND & RTN return for yet more dub techno trickery. 'Unknown Depths' scours an abyssally wet pit of sound over the course of four tunes, rivalling images of perhaps some underwater Tartarus-Marianas lovechild. As ever, the analog-centrism rings true with this prolific duo; true Von Oswald-style tape delay/feedback noise, sidechained to high heaven, is heard on the title track, lending an inimitable stamp of unpolished legitness to an otherwise often-clean sound. The stabs and hats of 'Clouds' and 'Deep Space', meanwhile, are clean and adept, not overthought but certainly just well-placed to arouse the best of emotions is us.

Cloro (5:57)
Acidificado (6:05)
My PH (6:17)
I'm The Machine (6:33)
Review: Vital and versatile techno label Planet Rhythm has another super dance floor adventure on its hands here with William Arist's My PH EP. It is a no-nonsense tackle from the off with 'Cloro' a blistering mix of sharp acid entangled with fizzing synth lines and pummelling drums. 'Acidificado' is even more intense, this time with banging drums falling off balance each time they land and wonky synths propping them up as best they can. The title track 'My PH' then strips things back to linear and dubbed out techno heaviness and icy hi-hats madness, all run through with molten acid. "I'm The Machine' is a video game techno frenzy with caustic, eye-watering texture.

Review: Senh knows a thing or two about laying down advanced techno sound designs and he did just that with his November 2022 album Shape The Future on the one and only Planet Rhythm. Now it's picked apart for a new EP featuring four of its most fearsome cuts. There is expert minimal tech funk to kick off with on 'Shaba Funk' then moody dub on 'Odyssey' stripped back deep techno serenity on 'Vision.' Last of all is 'All Right', a thumping and emotionally intense house sound that will have you dripping.

DF-RT (5:52)
PCP (5:21)
Shimmering (5:54)
Subtone A (6:09)
Review: Planet Rhythm seems to be in a purple patch right now and is putting out freshen techno platters on a very consistent basis. The in house production team step up for this one and it's the second of the Recycle series on nice purple marbled vinyl. There is nothing nice about the tunes though - they are searing dance floor slayers. 'DF-RT' has hammering drums and hits and freeform synths zipping about the mix while 'PCP' is a more stripped back, heads down, hunched over and late night techno pounder. 'Shimmering' is another tuning and streamlined cut with growing synth energy and 'Subtone A' closes with a snarl.

Shattered Dreams (5:42)
Lost In Pace (4:58)
Shifted Reality (5:11)
Review: Getting lost in space is frightening enough, but what happens when you attach some kind of music player, blasting a constant stream of industrial techno, to your spacesuit? We'd imagine that'd make things more stomachable. German techno duo OFF/GRID deliver four heavy and hard techno ingots on this functional vinyl 12", working hip-house samples ('Jiggy Rhythm'), off-kilter stabs ('Shattered Dreams') and dub techno undulations ('Shifted Reality') into the interstices of the 4x4. Deft and agile tunes, perfect fodder for, say, Fabric, room 2.

Paranoid (6:22)
Vision (5:54)
U-bahn (6:20)
Review: Welcome back to Planet Rhythm, the most groovy of all the astral bodies and one that deals only in seriously high-spec techno. Unknown Code is the one cooking up the goodness here and does so with a real focus on weighty low ends. 'Jede Dunkle Nacht' has just that as well as starry synths flashing across the face of the tune. 'Paranoid' is a darker cut with more grainy texture and scraping hits then 'Vision' thumps out a linear groove embellished with panel beaten loops and 'U-bahn' gets edgy with more strobe-lit synths. These are tools, but tools of the highest quality.

Review: Welcome back to Planet Rhythm, where the techno is serious and the grooves unrelenting. Gunlock is your host for this one and he welcomes us to a first volume of the Dubwars Sessions series on nice silver-coloured vinyl. 'From Within' opens with sleek and smooth dub techno unfolding at real pace. 'Theme From Dubwars' is more urgent and heavy, the drums slam and the chords rattle off the walls. 'Gatekeepers Ball' has that Mills-style melodic minimalism woven into its supple drum funk and 'Ratsel Box' then closes out with a pent-up sense of tension and kinetic energy that is bloody lovely,

Black Air (4:46)

Dark Line (5:41)
Cut (5:28)
Review: Deas is the Greek producer now based in Krakow with a relentless, prolific body of work behind him. Since he first signed with Planet Rhythm in 2019 it's been hard to keep up, but the quality doesn't dip so the onus is on you to stay in the loop. His fourth release of 2023 kicks off with the pressure cooker, strobing pulse of 'Black Air' before pirouetting into the cyclical head trip of 'Tanzhaus' So far, so solid. 'Dark Line' on the flip fires off nervy bleeps on top of a thunderous rhythm section and 'Cut' completes the picture with a huge monotone arp hitting around the low mids and some Detroit-style stabs sneaking in up top for a true roof-lifting moment to peak any self-respecting techno set.

Stickman (5:22)
The Dream Book (5:33)
Acid Blood (5:15)
Unmentionable (5:17)
Review: More mysterious acid-fired fare on leading Dutch techno label Planet Rhythm. In keeping with its predecessor, released earlier this year, the 'Acid Blood' EP has no credited artist. Whoever is behind the EP has done a fine job though, with all four tracks offering an excitable, addictive blend of raw, loopy, hard-wired TB-303 riffs, bouncy techno beats and booming bass. There's plenty to set the pulse racing across the EP, from the genuinely mind-altering excellence of 'The Dream Book', which recalls the stretched-out wonder of Choice classic 'Acid Eiffel', and the layered, red raw insanity of opener 'Stickman', to the redlined insanity of 'Acid Blood' and industrial techno slammer 'Unmentionable'. Breathless and brilliant - more please!

Cold Modern (5:41)
Rapids (5:22)
Punk Funk (5:47)
Act 31 (5:06)
Review: Fresko's definition of 'punk funk' is a little different to the sub-genre defined in the early 80s, though there's no doubt that his no-holds-barred approach to techno is punk in attitude and far funkier than some of the other material made by his 21st century production peers. For proof, check opener 'Cold Modern', where effects-laden vocal samples and thrusting arpeggio lines rise above a breathless groove, and the fizzing, rave-igniting stomp of 'Rapids'. Title track 'Punk Funk' reminded us of the disco-looping 'techno-funk' offered up by UK legend Dave Angel in the late 1990s (albeit with some lusciously tactile breakdowns thrown in), while 'Act 31' is moody, weighty and percussive, with some genuinely mind-mangling noises thrown in to spin out dancers.

Eruption (6:09)
Dispersion (5:21)
Review: Lenny San debuted on Planet Rhythm earlier this year with Fern Der Matrix EP, an impressive opening salvo of dub techno from a hitherto unknown name. Now Lenny is back with a follow up drop which leans into a thumping, crucially funky kind of peak time sound that holds true to the best kind of techno. 'Expansion' in particular is a bouncy workout of the highest calibre, while 'Disruption' is a straighter plug into the cavernous techno abyss. 'Eruption' brings that swing back in a subtle fashion, coming on like some of that early Skudge heat, while 'Dispersion' has a leaner sound palette and its own cheeky strut which offsets the steely sonics perfectly.

Review: When it comes to keeping a cavernous warehouse rocking in all the right ways, you don't want to take any chances. Planet Rhythm releases are always a safe bet in that regard, but that's especially the case on this Risk Management 12". Amongst the dependable contenders bringing the high-pressure goods are Klint, who throws down some darting pulses and steely kicks on the tough but funky 'Falcon' and Rove Ranger who twists up nerve-shredding rhythmic interplay with a committed trajectory deep down the wormhole. There are psychoactive fireworks and relentless forward momentum spilling out of every inch of this 12", making it a no-brainer for anyone serious about keeping the dancefloor tuned up.

Review: It's time for another trip around the orbit of Planet Rhythm, one of techno's finest galactic bodies. Fresko is at the control for this one and is in quite a hurry from the off. 'Post Urban Condition' is pacey but funky with its perfect designed loops rolling endlessly. 'You Have Sexy Arms' is charged with warming dub techno chords and more slick kick programming and flipside cut 'Lowme' then switches it up with a more broken beat and nice oversized hi hats. Last of all is 'School', a darker, more playful cut that completes a fine EP.

Review: Ukraine's Yan Cook is one of those low-key but highly skilled producers who have mastered the art of turning out consistently excellent techno cuts. It is Planet Rhythm that snap him up now for more of his linear bangers starting with the moody and paranoid opener 'Hydraulic', a pressurised cut that will bowl any dancefloor over. 'Null' then gets more gritty and textured as it rocks back and forth and 'Imla' (Red Rooms remix) takes a more subliminal and stripped-back approach to techno hypnosis.

Review: Rotterdam label Planet Rhythm has snapped up some searing tech from relative newcomers Dynamic Forces here. The electrifying duo are one again not mucking about here as they serve up some pumping techno bangers that have a playful heart and plenty of great designs buried deep in their unrelenting grooves. 'New Set Up' for example is backlit by a nice heavenly synth glow and 'Plague' is a real head wrecker with twisted leads and super sized hi hats. 'Tango' is a minimal number that moves like a cat on a hot tin roof and seems to get ever quicker throughout.

Lenny San - "Hedonist" (5:11)
Review: Planet Rhythm has been one of the premier hard techno labels for over 30 years now. Exploring some different avenues in the last decade, the label recently launched a series of heavy dub techno related records identified as DUBWARS. Volume two features four different artists this time with each submitting a new piece to the label focus. Fans of Basic Channel's 'Phylyps Trak' should quickly head to OFF/GRID - 'One Stab Ahead' for that main room filler. Gunjack's 'Memory Man' is another upbeat killer in its own right adding a bit of acid along with the melodic chord progression. For the second side, Antic Soul's 'Mandalore' stirs in a bit of house culture to the hard dub techno sound to great effect. Lastly, Lenny San bring's the party to their feet with 'Hedonist'. Heavy techno heads should really enjoy this packed 12"
