Blamerke (Sam Goku remix) (5:13)
Review: Oslo-born, London-bred, Delhi-influenced DJ and producer lands on K7 here with an EP that comes after a period of "creative stagnation". To get through it she decided to try and forget what she knew, and went with the flow as she embraced experimentation. The results are fantastically deft - fresh rhythms, wispy synths, plenty of detail but also effective club cuts that make you want to move. Dub, techno and house all get collided in freeform fashion with 'Blamerke' built on double-time polyrhythmic drums and overlaid with warped synths. 'Bottlepop' is more loose and funky with wispy neon melodies and 'Ghungroo' is layered up with sonorous bell and a real sense of urgency. Colourful stuff.

Review: Kassian never hurries his release rate which means that when the Shall Not Fade and SB Jamz producer does drop new music you need to tune in. This latest comes six months after his self-released and self-thief versions 003 back in January and arrives via the esteemed K7. 'X-303' is twisted and textured techno for late night warehouses with 'Tabla' a more layered up jumble of percussion and loopy drums. 'Prelude' burrows deep on a prying lead and bulky but rubbery drum loops and 'Patterns' rounds out with an edgy vibe, clipped vocals and uneasy synths that keep you locked.

Review: Washington DC's James Bangura really stands out from the rest with his truly singular take on electronic music that's appeared of late on labels like Incienso, World Building and Holding Hands. His latest comes courtesy of legendary German imprint !K7 Titled 'Harrar', a frantic and hyper aware experiment in off-the-grid post dubstep that will totally flip your mind. Over on the second side he goes for something more straightforward in the form 'Witness Dub' an emotive deep house cut that's perfect for the late night.

Review: Although his roots lie in the Berlin club scene - hence making his name with twisted tech-house treats - as his career has progressed Dominik Eulberg has proved increasingly adept at crafting albums that are perfectly suited to home listening. This is certainly the case with Avichrom, his sixth full-length and first since 2019. Rich in alternately picturesque and melancholic melodies, gentle machine beats, glistening countermelodies and gorgeous chords, the album brilliantly balances quietly euphoric dancefloor moments with a swathe of IDM and electronica excursions that deftly showcase his skills as a composer, producer and musician. It could well be Eulberg's most impressive album yet.

Review: RECOMMENDED
The DJ Kicks series has managed to outlast the vast majority of other DJ mixes we can think of - the good, the bad, the populist, and the plain cash cow. Even the mighty fabric compilations have rebranded and rethought, bringing the original legacy, FABRICLIVE included, to a respectful end at 200 outings. Strange, then, to think, that !K7's mighty offering to the world of "What should we listen to at the afters?" has arguably managed to become more relevant as the years have flown by.

There was a time when the series existed at the lighter end of club fare, with some examples barely even matching that description. These days, though, there's often a dance floor heaviness central to the selections, with Jessy Lanza's broken, bass-driven set a case in point. Pointless attempts to describe the music, and lazy track list namedropping aside, this is energy-packed, heads down, futurist stuff packed with infectious percussion.

Review: Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard created a landmark of ambient music when they released 76:14 back in the 90s. Their Global Communication project was never just about ambient though, and it also coursed through deep house and more besides. In the spirit of progress, Middleton has returned to thinking about the project from a contemporary perspective, stepping forth as GCOM with the epic scope of E2 XO. From stirring orchestral suites to high octane DSP, it's an expansive listening experience that shows Middleton pushing himself into new terrain in the studio. Whether you tie it back to the prior material or not, it's a towering piece of work from an elder statesman of UK electronica.

Review: While there aren't many duffers within the vast DJ Kicks catalogue, it would be fair to say that some of their chosen selectors do make more of an effort than others. Jessy Lanza, the latest DJ to provide a mix for the long-serving series, has undoubtedly taken it seriously and used the opportunity to cram in tons of killer cuts and take us on a genuinely thrilling, action-packed musical journey. After opening with a trio of her own shimmering, star-bright future R&B/leftfield synth-pop productions, Lanza sprints between fuzzy, off-kilter house and techno, punchy electro, sparkling underground electronic pop, bubbly electronica and dubbed-out electronic epics, before variously offering up ambient, sweaty drum tracks, and bouncy, garage-influenced goodness. In other words, it's a fabulously entertaining affair that's well worthy of your attention.

Review: Variously inspired by space, sleep science, conscious AI, sound art and climate change, GCOM is Tom Middleton's new vehicle for the kind of music he once made with Mark Pritchard as Global Communication. That's not to say that E2 XO, his first album using the alias, is a Global Communication tribute; in fact, for all of the beautiful, intergalactic ambient, neo-classical, IDM and ambient techno tracks on display, there are just as many that doff a cap to Autechre's more intense moments, experimental drum & bass, Rephlex-style Braindance and post-dubstep UK bass. It's an interesting mixture of sounds and styles all told, but one that makes perfect sonic sense when listened to in its entirety. We can't wait to see how Middleton develops the project in future.

Review: K7 have assembled another crack team of remixers on this second set of reworks of tracks from Dominik Eulberg's excellent 2019 album "Mannigfaltig", a varied set we described as his most "coherent and listenable to date". First Anna wraps fluid, musically positive motifs around bustling beats and gnarled analogue bass on a fine revision of "Sechslinien-Bodeneule", before Recondite wrings maximum emotional impact out of Eulberg's hazy melodies on a shuffling, hypnotic tech-house version of "Vierfleck". Robag Wruhme is at his warming, wonky and otherworldly best on an impeccable minimalist remix of "Siebenschlafer" (check the yearning melodies and locked-in beats), while Donato Dozzy steals the show with a sublime ambient techno revision of "Einstagfliege".

Review: While he's continued to offer up occasional singles, Bonn-based producer Dominik Eulberg has not released an album for eight years. It's for this reason that "Mannigfaltig", the former Traum Schallplatten regular's new set, is big news. Interestingly, it's nowhere near as club-focused as you'd perhaps expect, with Eulberg combining his usual glitchy, tech-house influenced beats and sounds with a range of intricate electronic motifs, sumptuous melodies and atmospheric aural textures. There are one or two club cuts, of course, but majority of the tracks bob along at a more sedate pace, with Eulberg offering up cuts that draw influence from IDM and hazy electronica. As a result, it may well be his most coherent and "listenable" album to date.

Review: Matt Cutler aka Lone has been praised for his classic house perspectives that have earned him releases over the last 10 years on R&S, Werk Discs and of course his own Magicwire imprint. He presents the next installment in !K7's esteemed DJ Kicks series, where he claims to have stepped out of his comfort zone. As a producer, first and foremost, used to programming his own material across several albums, he used the same approach in compiling the material on the mix. The three tracks on offer on this EP are exclusive productions from the Nottingham based DJ - and taken from the mix. The emotive, late-night groove of "Saturday Night" (DJ-Kicks) takes you all the way back to the early 90s of Chicago, while on the flip we get treated to the raw and pulsing lo-fidelity jack of "Arc" and the sublime beatless journey that is "Alpha Wheel 4" (Ambient mix).

Review: Renowned producer, remixer, DJ and record label owner Carl Craig is one of the few artists who can truly claim to have shaped the sound of
modern electronic music. Making music since the tender age of 17, Craig has created everything from ambient soundscapes to jazz
during the past 20 years, but it's his work in dance music that is at his core. 'Sessions' is a long overdue album that brings together a personal
selection of Carl's incredible back catalogue, from his early work under the aliases Paperclip People and 69 to worldwide hits like 'Throw'
(recently covered live by LCD Soundsystem) and groundbreaking tracks like 'Bug in the Bassbin'. Alongside the classics, the two discs also showcase why Craig is still such a powerful force in music today with a diverse range of remixes for the likes of XPress 2, Theo Parrish and many others. For his rework for Junior Boys'. 'Like A Child' he was just nominated for a Grammy.
The selection also includes previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions of his own productions, as well as some exclusive unreleased
remixes. 'Sessions' reminds us of how exciting and unique Carl Craig's productions and remixes are and why he remains at the top of his game,
a retrospective of one of the world’s most influential and groundbreaking figures in electronic music.

Review: What the deuce? !K7 return with yet another essential DJ Kicks mix. Hot on the heels of Matthew Dear and Michael Meyer comes ace-serving selector DJ Tennis. Famed for his deep drawing style and ability to whip up atmospheres like some type of DJ sorcerer, his debut mix album was always going to be special. Perhaps not this special, though. Two CDs ranging from the most startling and serene contemporary ambient (Bauri - "Twinkle Stars"), to fluid body-shifting machine funk techno (Robert Hood - "Escapes") via warm house laced with subtle layers of sleaze (Oval - "Textuell") and crackling theatrical breaks (Jon Hopkins - "Vessel"), Tennis has taken his club chops and presented them in a much more timeless and flexible context. Just as all the best DJ Kicks mixes do. Love.

Review: Fresh from turning Lappsley's previously unknown "Operator" into the disco anthem of summer 2016, DJ Koze attempts to breathe new life into Michael Mayer and Joe Goddard's recent single, "For You". On the A-side you'll find his Club Mix, which peppers an off-kilter, live sounding tech-house groove with foreboding noises and chopped up electronic stabs before triumphantly introducing Goddard's vocal and Mayer's sinewy string arrangements. On the flip you'll find vocal and instrumental versions of the more fragile, intricate and folksy Mbira remix. Both make much greater use of music box melodies, meandering clarinet lines, and some chiming additional percussion. As a result, they have more emotional impact than the more functional club interpretation.

Review: On his third studio full-length "&" Kompakt co-founder Michael Mayer has embraced the concept of collaboration. Each of the album's 12 tracks was co-produced with one of Mayer's many friends from within the electronic music community, including some notable names. It's a formula that guarantees both variety and freshness, as the swathe of highlights proves. Check, for example, the glistening melodies and hazy house throb of Gui Boratto and Voigt & Voight hook-up "State Of The Nation", the stylish electroclash-goes-synth pop hustle of Miss Kittin collaboration "Voyage Interieur", and the rubbery, hypnotic "Blackbird Has Spoken" (made alongside Agoria). Throw in fine contributions from Joe Goddard and Prins Thomas, amongst others, and you have an entertaining concoction.

Destroyer (FOLD Lean Tape version) (6:59)
Review: The master of wacky techno returns. Matthew Dear donned his notorious Audion moniker again for his first album in years under the guise. The Alpha LP featured about a dozen woozy and disorienting dancefloor destroyers and two selections are present here getting the remix treatment by two fellow innovators. The legendary Matthew Herbert remixes "Gut Man Cometh", scaling back the high-octane psychedelia of the original into a driving journey track with interestingly spiced up vocal samples. Aus Music regular FOLD turns "Destroyer" into a tough deep house stomper with emotive pads being supported by some gutsy stomp and shuffle.

Review: Up next on DJ Kicks' acclaimed mix series is Numbers doyen and Glaswegian iconJackmaster. In his own words, the 24-track mix sees the charismatic Scot 'delivering an honest journey, unearthing a serious passion for the obscure boundaries of house and techno.' This double LP lifts out eight of the tracks most other DJs will want to get their mitts on, and joins the dots between his hometown of Glasgow with Denis Sulta's festival destroying bass driven epic "MSNJ", then NYC; with Eli Escobar's gutsy EBM-flavoured 'Tension (vinyl mix)". Berlin's status as a dance music mecca is referenced with Dutch transplant Anno Stamm's dark house stomper "A Night Out With Therese" and the legend himself Ricardo Villalobos, with his minimal techno classic from 1996 "Logohitz". DJ Kicks throw in a CD of the mix too!

Review:  Such has been the rise of Marquis Hawkes in recent times that this debut album must mark as one of the most anticipated house sets of 2016. Happily, Social Housing is a superb showcase not only for Hawkes' talents, but also his understanding of house music in its' many myriad forms. The album does include, of course, a sprinkling of jackin' workouts, but these are outnumbered by such thrilling chunks of loved-up positivity as the Tiger & Woods style loop funk of "Fantasy", the Theo Parrish-ish jazz fuzziness of "Summer Memory", and the cheeky, Todd Edwards style cut-up garage of "Something In Yr Head" [sic]. The album's most potent moment, though, is "I'm So Glad", a collaboration with Jocelyn Brown that already ranks among 2016's most potent tunes.

Review: In January 2015, Seth Troxler and Tom Trago decided to mark the passing of legendary Amsterdam venue Trouw by getting together in the studio. The resultant track - a woozy, undulating, 10-minute deep house epic - was first showcased on Troxler's DJ Kicks mix last autumn. Here, it gets a deserved single release, with accompanying remixes from Prins Thomas and Voyage Direct artist Maxi Mill. The Norwegian producer does a terrific job reinventing the track as a long-slung Balearic disco gem, full of glistening guitars, chiming melodies, percussive breakdowns and heavy, punk-funk bass. In contrast, Maxi Mill emphasizes the spacey elements of the original track, laying down a rolling, Detroit-influenced deep house shuffler.

Review: Last year, Akase duo Harry Agius and Robert Redway set out their stall with a pair of impressive singles on K7. Here, they return to the long-running German label with a similarly atmospheric and otherworldly debut album. Sitting somewhere between intoxicating outsider house, woozy synth-pop, undulating tech-house and heartfelt blue-eyed soul, but with a radio-friendly vibe all of its' own, Graspers is the kind of set that should appeal to a wide range of listeners. Certainly, it's full of memorable songs, enjoyable late night moments, emotion-rich compositions and evocative productions. As debut albums go, it's quietly confident and boasts an unfussy beauty.

Review: The DJ Kicks mix series has been rocking our speakers for years now with a hot selection of artists from all over the dance sphere. It was only a matter of time that US DJ extraordinaire Seth Troxler landed on their catalogue, and he's performed precisely to our high expectations. This vinyl edition is a delicious mix of all forms of house and techno; from the soulful house vibes of Vannessa McMillian's "Stay With Me", to the more vintage, crunchy sounds of Mood II Swing and master K Alex Shelby, and even an appearance from tech house king Butch, this has all the ingredients to rock out your Saturday night, or simply carry you along the day with some much needed dancing vibes.

Review: Some DJs use the opportunity of a DJ Kicks mix to showcase the eclectic nature of their record collections, while others see it as a chance to give an airing to the dancefloor records that have inspired them over the years. Seth Troxler's mix sits somewhere in between. On the one hand, there are impeccable jazz and downtempo moments from the likes of Sun Ra, Herbert (as remixed by Phil Parnell) and DJ Koze, whose "Bodenweich" is an undeniably atmospheric, off-kilter delight. On the other hand, Troxler has picked out some genuinely brilliant, mostly US-centric house selections; deep, soulful and bumpin' fare from the likes of Butch, Kerri Chandler, Jasper Street Company, Mood II Swing and Derrick Carter. On paper, it's an odd combination, but somehow Troxler has made it work.

Review: As a follow-up to Will Saul's exclusive-packed - and generally well received - DJ Kicks set, !K7 has decided to reissue two of the most celebrated tracks, with fresh new remixes. On the A-side you'll find Jabru and Joel Culpepper's "Church" - a decidedly organic, soulful chunk of deep house/UK garage fusion - with accompanying Zed Bias rub. The UKG veteran gives it a bouncy, bassy two-step makeover, wisely retaining Culpepper's brilliant vocals. Flip for Will Saul and Komon's spacey "Two For One", where dreamy flourishes rub shoulders with throbbing electronics and delicate house beats. The remix is provided by Appleblim, who adds a new layer of percussive toughness - in a bruk-meets-two-step style - whilst retaining the warmth of the original.

Review: 11 years on from DJ Koze's one and only commercial mix, 2004's All People Is My Friends for Kompakt, the Pampa boss lines the 50th DJ Kicks mix, following high profile contributions from Nina Kraviz and Actress. This vinyl edition offers the best of both worlds really, featuring some 17 highlights of Kozalla's selection in their original form spread across two slabs of vinyl whilst !K7 have also thrown in a CD copy of the mix so you can hear how it's all done Koze-style. As you'd expect Koze presents one of the more far-reaching selections in the series, with Madlib-produced Freddie Gibbs nestling up alongside William Shatner, Boards of Canada remixes, Broadcast whilst the likes of Marcel Fengler, Session Victim and Frank & Tony offer some deepness.

Review: Given his longevity - not to mention the high esteem in which he's held as a selector - it's rather surprising that this is only DJ Koze's second mix CD. Having indulged his dancefloor side with 2004's All People Is My Friends on Kompakt, here he digs deep into his post-club crates for a DJ Kicks selection that relies heavily on well-swung electronica and left-of-centre instrumental hip-hop beats. It's a fine mix, all told, shot through with a quietly soulful vibes, his usual eccentricity and some killer selections (Broadcast, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, his own quirky remix of Session Victim). There are a few curious, homemade downtempo mash-ups, too, plus - bizarrely - a surprisingly impressive track from William Shatner. Yes, that William Shatner.

Review: The DJ Kicks 12" series was always an integral part of !K7's long running and much loved mix series, offering the vinyl selectors out there a chance to do some damage with the original production contribution from each artist enlisted. For whatever reason it's been dormant for a few years but gets rebooted here much to the joy of John Talabot completists everywhere, with the Spaniard's superb "Without You" given a much needed vinyl pressing! A highlight of the Hivern man's 2012 DJ Kicks mix, the soft embrace of the original is complemented by a triplet of remixes that veer of in different directions. Perlon veteran Thomas Melchior dons his Melchior Productions Ltd guise for a self styled Sueno Sin Ti remix that is the epitome of stripped back deepness, whilst Oskar Offerman flushes the production with some blue eyed soul on his fine effort. Mystery Hivern production unit Mistakes Are OK hint at future promise with a wonderfully relaxed closing remix that will get the Balearically-minded DJs excited.

Review: John Talabot joins the likes of Scuba, James Holden and Motor City Drum Ensemble to contribute to the long running DJ-Kicks mix series that's deftly proved there's still mileage in the commercially released Mix CD despite this podcast heavy age we live. The usual double LP edition culls ten cuts from the weighty 27 track mix which the Hivern Disc lad has described as "not an easy mix. It's quite strange". If you've seen Talabot DJ you know the Barcelona based artist digs deep and that's represented well on these ten cuts, with Andy Stott's lurching take on Maps and the similarly minded Tempel Rytmik ( the new project from Talabot and Alexander 'Genius of Time' Berg) contrasting nicely with the more effervescent house from Axel Boman, MCDE and Paradise's Deep Groove. Kudos too for the inclusion of Samo DJ's "Tai Po Kau"!
