Review: Funk D'Void & Phil Kieran return to Soma with this berserk, double-demented blitz of mutant techno. The two techno heavyweights join forces for another spannered outing on Glasgow's Soma. For their third collaborative excursion they really have dipped into the realm of insanity. Their first two releases 'Black Worm' and 'White Lice' have been continually creeping out of speakers and contaminating dirty dancefloors the world over, now an unparalleled 'worm' attack is about to begin. First is the ultra wonky 'Worm Of Mouth', a stuttering, technoid Jabberwocky and an anthem for invertebrates everywhere. Even more twisted is 'Tick Tick Tick', a scuzzy bomb that explodes into a rave spluttering Armageddon. Funk & Phil have delivered two killers here and easily the strongest release in the series so far. The other good news is that they are starting work on an album for release next year. Fergie has already been playing these tracks on his show from MP3. DJ support from Andrew Weatherall, Richie Hawtin, Funk D'Void, Slam, Dave Mothersole, Damian Lazarus, Rob da Bank, Miss Kitten, Tom Stephan, Laurent Garnier, Stuart Patterson, Nic Fancuilli, Agoria.

Review: A tasty sampler for their full length, "Squints". Repeat Repeat go down the Troy Pierce/Marc Houle road on "Why Must", a swinging full-on analog funk slab of technoid mayhem with beefy bubbling bottom end, quirky synth bells, glitchy percussion and that massive sound that fans of Richie Hawtin will have a baby for! Remix comes from Gaiser who provides a stripped back mental mix currently getting big support.

Review: At the psychiatric ward of Soma, Funk 'Jekyll' D'Void and Phil 'Hyde' Kieran have found solace with their latest release. This double A side is a schizophrenic record with a black and white contrast that couldn't smack you in the face any harder. "White Light" teases you in with its cosy, brooding melodies. A late-night burner, Funk & Phil deliver a cut of warm electro-bliss perfect for those 4am wind-down sets. "Black As You Like" drags you right back from the light through a dark abyss of thorny rhythms and spiky soundscapes. It tears its way into the sinister side of techno and aims straight for that traumatic childhood experience that sends you to tears every time. The Funk & Phil partnership continues to go from strength to strength.

Review: Silicone Soul return with the huge 'Snake Charmer' 12" in advance of their forthcoming album. Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie have been locked in the studio since last year's amazing 'Staring Into Space' and from what they have let us hear so far this one is even stronger. First up is the epic 'The Snake Charmer', a glistening chunk of astro-house funk that marvelously incorporates the enchanting sound of the flute to maximum effect. This spine-tingling, hypnotic house groove is set to put a spell on you this summer and has already found support with Pete Tong on his Essential Selection. 'In Dante's Disco' is a dramatic floor burner that combines twinkling disco elements with a driving electro house rampage. This is tougher stuff from Craig and Graeme and is sure to set the dancefloor on fire. 'The Future's Uncertain' is an underground bubbler that is deep, dubbed out and melodic. This is a welcome return from Silicone Soul and an intriguing prelude to their forthcoming album. Review: With re-releases of their first three EPs earlier this year, Soma continues to resurrect the dark past of The Black Dog with "The Cost". This was originally released in 1993 alongside The Black Dog's groundbreaking "Temple Of Transparent Balls" album on the GPR label. 14 years later and this release is no less essential.
