Review: Blundar is a label shrouded in mystery, although it seems aligned with artists like Lowtec and those orbiting crews like Smallville. The latest transmission on the dusty house imprint comes from STL, whose disheveled sounds is a natural fit for what has come before on Blundar. "Track 1" peers through a thick haze of smoke, exhaling pads and drones and keeping the bass pulsing throughout. The rest of the EP is given over to experimental and ambient tones, with the second track on Side B being an especially arresting piece loaded with melancholic contemplation. It's another strong addition to the Blundar repertoire, and another example of STL's skills and adaptability in the studio.

Review: The OdD Music crew are back with more of that off-kilter, subtly freaked up house music shuffle to make your bones shake. This sixth release on the label has everything any minimal head craves, not least on opening jam "Forty Five" with its nervy piano licking away underneath a heavy filter while the groove rolls on incessantly. "Thirty Three & A Third" takes a different approach, dropping some deft broken beats into the mix and letting some spaced out synth wobbles ping the track into a curious new orbit. "Nine" finishes the EP off with some immersive percussive tones that call to mind ritualistic dancing and transcendental experience, just like all good party music should.

Review: Having built their reputation through 12" singles for the likes of Crosstown Rebels and Poker Flat, Dan Berkson and James What deliver their debut album, on their freshly minted imprint Modelmaker. Interestingly, Keep Up Appearances is an altogether warmer, melodious and more evocative set than you'd perhaps expect, with a smattering of rich downtempo cuts joining a solid selection of dancefloor-friendly deep house. You can hear a classic dub techno influence in cuts such as "Keep Up Appearances" and "Shadow Theory", while the acid-flecked, soul-soaked "Make It True" sounds like classic Osunlade. Best of all, though, are the more forthright efforts, with the ragged "Seraphim" standing out.

Review: Having built up the suspense with a strong run of singles, Mr C finally delivers his latest album in a fit of house and techno savvy with a strong dose of political intent to boot. Intended as a comment on the state of UK clubbing, stylistically Incidents veers from slo-mo acid to the kind of heated jackers the man himself would have been playing at Clink St back in '88. Amongst other stylistic touchstones there's a whisper of electro powering the rousing "Stand Up", but really this is the sound of an acid house veteran stripping everything back and accurately capturing the spirit of the sound when it first broke. If anyone's qualified to take to such a task, it's surely Mr. C.

Review: Croatian mainstay Ilija Rudman had a productive 2016 thanks to turns on Chit Chat, Burek and Double Deer, and he turns to his own Imogen Recordings to kick off the new year with a brooding, drum-focused hit of oddball house music for the trippy, paranoid end of the night. The "Presence Deep Dub" mix of "In Her Eyes" is a multi-faceted jam, using high-end processing matched with organic, instinctive percussion to make for the kind of workout that will inspire all manner of curious reactions from the floor. It's a track more than strong enough to stand proud as a one-sided 12", with the crossover appeal to land in a whole host of different bags.

Review: Like the melting smileyface man in a pink morphsuit astriding the back of a thousand-yard-staring horse - as depicted on the front cover of this new EP - Ashee's 'Country Classic' really is as weird as it gets. Two speedy house cuts with plenty of woosh, oomph and oi, 'Country Classic' and 'Rampage' are about as odd and derealized as 4x4 dance music can get.

Review: As a follow-up to Will Saul's exclusive-packed - and generally well received - DJ Kicks set, !K7 has decided to reissue two of the most celebrated tracks, with fresh new remixes. On the A-side you'll find Jabru and Joel Culpepper's "Church" - a decidedly organic, soulful chunk of deep house/UK garage fusion - with accompanying Zed Bias rub. The UKG veteran gives it a bouncy, bassy two-step makeover, wisely retaining Culpepper's brilliant vocals. Flip for Will Saul and Komon's spacey "Two For One", where dreamy flourishes rub shoulders with throbbing electronics and delicate house beats.
