Wu-Tang Clan 1994-2004 by Eddie Otchere Wu-Tang Clan 1994-2004 by Eddie Otchere
Cat: 955241

Wu-Tang Clan 1994-2004 was published in May 2023, is 14cm x 20cm and has 36 colour pages
Notes: Wu-Tang Clan 1994-2004 was published in May 2023, is 14cm x 20cm and has 36 colour pages.

"Of Wu Tang and things... I'd say off the bat it's the Ol' dirty bastard, asking me to destroy the negatives, that will never leave me. Meth showing me his new trick with eye and cap. U-god with a plaster on his face. The Rza in a bath tub at the Met hotel. Watching the entire Wu-Tang Clan getting passport pictures at Earl Court station. The Shows. The distinct smell of blunts and weed that hung in the air. Papa Wu inviting me on the coach and traveling from Putney to Kentish Town with a pit stop in Earls Court. Young dirty Bastard's performance of Shimmy Shimmy Ya Shimmy Yam Shimmy yah. From the first encounter to my last, the Wu have never failed to disappoint.

The first time I met the Wu-Tang was in 1994, they were meant to be in a sound check, and were instead throwing rocks at passing trains, It was a hallmark of every encounter, a wild ride. The concert was scheduled for the Kentish Town Forum and word had gone around they where in London. In my hunt for them I went to the record company and my first encounter with the Wu-Tang began as they were coming out of the building on their way to Kentish Town to do their soundcheck. I heard them before I saw them, so my camera was ready. I managed to get on the coach and rolled with them while they listened to deep soul music. Their passion for the life of Hip Hop is undeniable and our hook ups were built on the premise that I was documenting Hip Hop through my photography.

On the second occasion I was working for MixMag and the shoot was scheduled in a photographic studio. I would share the time slot with Time Out who were running a cover story. On that occasion, I had hoped to complete my Wu collection, I didn't. The Rza didn't appear.

The third time I encountered the Wu it was just the Rza and he was in full Bobby Digital mode and that meant his iconography was masked by a conceptual identity.

The fourth was Cappadona in Brixton but the last time was in Los Angeles and there I met Ol Dirty's son. He came through to host my show in LA. On the opening night we held a block party in the car park of Melrose where the RZA rolled through and spent the whole night holding court.

We exchanged words as I toured the gallery giving him the details of all the times we'd met. We had a PlayStation with the Wu Tang game on it. Young Dirty smashed it. I took one shot that night, just one. It's been 25 years in the making.

What you have here a rarified glimpse at the lead images and contact sheets of seeking out members of the Wu-Tang Clan and putting their mythos on blast. I got one shot. This was the last time we held a cipher."

Why Be Something That You're Not: Detroit Hardcore 1979-1985 by Tony Rettman (red cover)
Cat: 955394 Rel: 24 Jul 23

"Why Be Something That You're Not: Detroit Hardcore 1979-1985" chronicles the first wave of Detroit hardcore from its origins in the late '70s to its demise in the mid '80s
Notes: "Why Be Something That You're Not: Detroit Hardcore 1979-1985" chronicles the first wave of Detroit hardcore from its origins in the late '70s to its demise in the mid '80s. Through a combination of oral history and extensive imagery, the book proves that even though the Southern California beach towns might have created the look and style of hardcore punk, it was the Detroit scene - along with a handful of other cities across the country - that cultivated the music's grassroots aesthetic before most cultural hot spots around the globe even knew what the music was about. The book includes interviews with members of The Fix, Violent Apathy, Negative Approach, Necros, Pagans, Bored Youth, and L-Seven along with other people who had a hand in the early hardcore scene like Ian MacKaye, Tesco Vee, and Dave Stimson. New printing now available with a red cover.

Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker Voices In The First Person Volume 2 [Art & Language Of) by William Parker
Notes: Throughout his life as an artist of increasing renown, William Parker has always made it a point to shine light on those who do not as often receive recognition for their work, and from whose work Parker has found great resonance with and received great inspiration from.

This is the second volume of Parker's beautifully produced & printed 'Voices In The First Person' books, which use a similar approach, but also include extensive reproductions of artwork, poetry, photographs created by the four featured artists. Looking through this new volume, and again through the first volume, they bring to mind issues of Wax Poetics books on my shelves. Deep illuminating explorations of exceptionally gifted and multifarious artists, with the difference here being that the vast bulk of the text is, =yes=, in those artists' own voices & words.

From William Parker's introductions to each chapter:

Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson (trumpeter, composer, improvisor): "Jalalu was born with a special gift: the ability to hear his dreams. And translate them into Sound, words, and images...Wherever he is, the joy of music follows...Dancing into the horizon, constantly interacting with beautiful worlds of Sound and silence. Jalalu is unique in his vision of creativity."

Alan "Juice" Glover (saxophonist, composer, improvisor, activist, filmmaker, historian): "I met Alan in 1973 and began training in advanced music rooted in the tradition of being oneself. Alan is a multidimensional renaissance person, improviser, composer, inventor, photographer, and filmmaker who has moved through several phases of creativity...He continues to explore the many manifestations of enlightenment."

Steve Swell (trombonist, composer, improvisor, painter, poet): "Steve is a trombonist and composer. In this book, he shares another side of himself; we get a glimpse of his poetry, visual art, and musical composition. He has been consistently productive for the past forty-five years, soaring above America's anti-artist environment to allow beautiful things to flow through him."

Christopher Collins (poet, painter, essayist, wood sculptor): "Christopher was a human being who loved nature. On its terms. He acknowledged the majesty of trees, streams, and back roads. He knew how to bring out and show the beauty of simple things...Poet and philosopher visual artist, he danced to his inner song living on the edge for eighty-five years as a reluctant divine."

Volume 2 features Alan "Juice" Glover, Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson, Steve Swell, & Christopher Collins. Interviews, artwork, poetry, music scores, essays, & more.

The Story Of Crass by George Berger
Cat: 944965 Rel: 19 May 23

The whole Crass story, giving access to many never-before seen photos and interviews.
Notes: Crass was the anarcho-punk face of a revolutionary movement founded by radical thinkers and artists Penny Rimbaud, Gee Vaucher, and Steve Ignorant. When punk ruled the waves, Crass waived the rules and took it further, putting out their own records, films, and magazines and setting up a series of situationist pranks that were dutifully covered by the world's press. Not just another iconoclastic band, Crass was a musical, social, and political phenomenon.

Commune dwellers who were rarely photographed and remained contemptuous of conventional pop stardom; their members explored and finally exhausted the possibilities of punk-led anarchy. They have at last collaborated on telling the whole Crass story, giving access to many never-before-seen photos and interviews.

Praise:

"Lucid in recounting their dealings with freaks, coppers, and punks the band's voices predominate, and that's for the best."
The Guardian UK

"Thoroughly researched...chockful of fascinating revelations...it is, surprisingly, the first real history of the pioneers of anarcho-punk."
Classic Rock

"They (Crass) sowed the ground for the return of serious anarchism in the early eighties."
Jon Savage, England's Dreaming

George Berger has written for Sounds, Melody Maker and Amnesty International amongst others. His previous book was a biography of the Levellers: State Education/No University.

The Song Of The Machine by David Blot & Mathias Cousin
Cat: 955349 Rel: 01 Jan 90

A pulsating graphic novel on the epic history of electronic music, from the heyday of disco in the 1970s to the rave culture of the 1990s and beyond
Notes: With a foreword from house music legends Daft Punk, The Song of the Machine is a celebration of a musical wave that swept across the world over decades, demographics, and dance styles. Originally published in 2000 in France, and updated through today for this first English edition, the electrifying narrative introduces readers to the harbingers of the genre, such as David Mancuso, Larry Levan, and Frankie Knuckles (known as the "Godfather of House Music"); the prototypes of modern-day nightclubs and dance venues, like The Loft and Studio 54 in New York City, the Palace in Paris, and the Hacienda in Manchester, England, and of course, the technology and machines that first produced and synthesized the records that galvanized a movement.

Told through exciting illustrations that evolve with the era they describe, and complete with specially curated playlists for each and every decade, The Song of the Machine recounts the influences and inspirations, the people and epic parties that created and defined this revolutionary music.

The Resurrection Of The Crazed by Paul Wainwright
Cat: 993869

A collection of articles and interviews from The Crazed magazine
Notes: Join the author as he journeys back to those mutant rockin', venue wreckin', snakebite sodden days of the Psychobilly/neo-Rockabilly scene of the 80's. His fanzine 'The Crazed' was right there, reporting on the scene as it grew and writing about bands such as The Meteors, GuanaBatz, Demented Are Go, King Kurt, Long Tall Texans and Restless.

Travel back through those articles and interviews and revisit the experience. Enjoy noisy nights at The Klub Foot, mecca of all things Psychobilly, where many of these interviews were conducted after sweaty gigs. Read the bands own words, full of enthusiasm, excitement and optimism about what the future might hold, and discover what it was like to produce and edit a fanzine back then.

The scene meant so much to so many and 'The Crazed' was there to document it.

This book recaptures how it felt at the time.

After lying dormant for over 30 years 'The Crazed' has now been resurrected.

Foreword by Craig 'Bracko' Brackenridge of Vintage Rock magazine.

Klub Foot cover art by Paskal Millet.

The Crazed book was officially published on 7th December 2023 and is available now, shipping immediately.

About the author:

In Paul's teenage years during the 1980's he was totally captured by the Psychobilly, Garage and Rockabilly scene. He couldn't play an instrument and really didn't have the patience to learn but really wanted to get recognised within the scene. He had an inquisitive mind and decided to attempt to produce a fanzine which would give him the opportunity to meet and question many of the bands whose records he was so religiously buying.

The first interview he conducted was with arguably the biggest Psychobilly band in England - The Meteors. This set-in motion a series of interviews with other bands and musicians within the scene, many of whom had not been given any exposure from the English music press.

Many a Saturday afternoon saw him spending his hard-earned cash to jump on the train and travel up to the legendary Psychobilly venue in Hammersmith, The Klub Foot, a few interviews were actually conducted there.

His fanzine was called 'The Crazed' and lasted for just four issues, but featured interviews with quite a few of the leading 80's Psychobilly/Rockabilly bands, such as The Meteors, GuanaBatz, Demented Are Go, Restless and more.

For a while within the 1980's the scene shone, but like most things, eventually faded along with his enthusiasm for producing the fanzine.

'The Crazed' became a yellowing photocopied memory put away in a drawer and forgotten about for years.

It wasn't until many years later that 'The Crazed' emerged again in Craig Brackenridge's book about Psychobilly, 'Hell Bent on Rockin'. Parts of Paul's interview with the GuanaBatz was also featured within the CD booklet for Cherry Red Records re-release of their second album, 'Loan Sharks'. Paul was then interviewed about 'The Crazed' by the 'Ole School Psychobilly' website and this led to the genesis of the idea for the book.

The creation of 'The Crazed' book has been quite a journey, with new friendships made, and a few lost.

Old friendships were resurrected, with an understanding of why some of those were never maintained.

Paul travelled back to those heady times in the 80's where music and fashion ruled his life and re-captured his enthusiasm for the Psychobilly / Rockabilly scene.

The Prodigal Rogerson by J Hunter Bennett The Prodigal Rogerson by J Hunter Bennett The Prodigal Rogerson by J Hunter Bennett The Prodigal Rogerson by J Hunter Bennett
Cat: 952969

Biography of Roger Rogerson, woven out of interviews with who knew him, with never-before-published photos of Circle Jerks
Notes: In 1983, Circle Jerks bassist Roger Rogerson stole the band's van and dropped off the face of the earth. Thirteen years later, he came back, demanded that his bandmates reunite so they could become "bigger than the Beatles", and promptly dropped dead. Though he was a founding member and key songwriter of the band who played on three of their best albums, Rogerson was lost to history. In a compelling narrative woven out of interviews with who knew him, with never-before-published photos of the band, The Prodigal Rogerson explains what happened to Rogerson, where he went, and who he was... all against the backdrop of the Los Angeles punk scene in its prime.

Journals, stories, and songs span the years 1981 to present. Includes visual archives and artwork dating back to 1974.

"From the Preface to The Knot: This book contains the words to every song I've written worth collecting to date from all my musical projects throughout the years. I've left out various imbecilities and feckless half-starts. Also included in this book are several previously published short stories. They're taken from the collections The Consumer and The Egg, as well as a few other hand- made limited editions of stories. In a few cases I've included excerpts rather than the entire story. This was done for aesthetic purposes, with the overall feel of this current volume in mind. There are a great many journal entries in this book. For the most part they are also, emphatically fiction. They're from an ongoing journal, not a diary. My journals are where I often allow a disembodied, fictional 1st person narrator to take over and unspool imagined events, diatribes, impossible scenarios, psychic auto-cannibalisms, and corrosive or ecstatic dreams etc. Again, these are fiction. Certain things I've written about (in fiction and in song form) seem to exist beneath the surface (in myself and others) and I find them compelling to look at and to describe. I view this as a positive act. In acknowledgment of the constricting and microscopically judgmental and censorious times we live in, the usual authorial caveats apply here. Certainly there are many purely anecdotal journal entries included in this book as well, and my presumption is that an intelligent reader would be able to differentiate one from the other. Personally, I'm very suspicious of memory (especially my own), so I can't definitively vouch for the veracity of the recounting of the literal events herein either. I have also excised material that I felt too personal to include, out of respect for the people involved as well as for myself. There are several large gaps in the journal entries over the years. This is due to lost journals of the time, and in one case a lost laptop (which, painfully, contained a great deal of writing). There are also periods where I didn't keep a journal and didn't write fiction. In any event, I've tried to include fiction and journal entries that correspond roughly to the period before and after a musical album's release and the words that were written for that music. The end section of this book consists of recently unearthed visual documents and imagery and functions here as an incidental archive. The images span the years from 1974 to the present."

Notes: n the late 1970s, Don Zientarai - a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War - founded Inner Ear Studio in the basement of his home in Arlington, VA, using the electronics training he received from the army. Inner Ear remained in Don's basement until its 1990 relocation to a larger space on South Oakland Street. Along the way, Inner Ear became best known for recording iconic DC punk musicians including Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Bikini Kill, Rites of Spring, Mary Timony, and Fugazi.

Composed by photographer Antonia Tricarico, The Inner Ear of Don Zientara is an oral history of not just Inner Ear's recordings, but the role that Don played in creating one of the most welcoming and nurturing recording studios the world over. Alongside 250 photographs, this volume includes testimonials from members of Fugazi, Scream, Fire Party, Shudder to Think, Jawbox, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dismemberment Plan, as well as musicians like Kathleen Hanna and Henry Rollins, among other notables.

In addition to DC punk bands, Don also recorded many other styles and genres, including Celtic folk tunes, harp music, Russian balalaika groups, political advertisers, and choral singers. The studio was also featured on Dave Grohl's Sonic Highways television mini-series. The Inner Ear of Don Zientara pays tribute to this iconic studio, celebrating the man at the heart of this remarkable space.

76 page graphic novel is published by Tresor with support from Gerald Donald

Tresor has announced the publication of The Book Of Drexciya Vol 1, a graphic novel covering the first five chapters of the Drexciyan mythology. Authored by Detroit's lead techno visual artist and one of the mythology's original writers, Abdul Qadim Haqq, and Japanese screenwriter and musician Dai Sato, it also features art by Leo Rodrigues, Alan Oldham, Hector Rubilar, Leonardo Gondim, Daniel Oliviera and Milton Estevam.

In the legend, pregnant African women thrown off slave ships gave birth to amphibious creatures known as the Drexciyan wave jumpers: great warriors of the abyss. First noted in the inner sleevenotes of Drexciya's 1997 release The Quest, the story took on four phases: The Slave Trade (1655-1867); Migration Route Of Rural Blacks To Northern Cities (1930s-1940s); Techno Leaves Detroit, Spreads Worldwide (1988); and The Journey Home (Future).

This project comes with the full support of Drexciya's Gerald Donald and Helen Stinson, the mother of James Stinson (1969-2002).

Thank You For A Lovely Day: 11 The Go Betweens Songcomics by Jonas Engelmann
Cat: 945307 Rel: 07 Jun 23

Eleven international comic artists have each chosen a favourite song by the Go Betweens to bring it to a new life for a comic strip
Notes: Belle & Sebastian and Teenage Fanclub have dedicated songs to them, Courtney Barnett has cited them as a major influence, and numerous bands have covered their songs: The Go-Betweens. In 1977, friends Robert Forster and Grant McLennan founded the band in Brisbane, Australia. With their folky indie rock and songs like "Right Here", "Love Goes On" or "Streets of Your Town" they became an international force in the indie world within a few years . The band broke up in 1989 after six successful albums, only to return in 2000 with The Friends of Rachel Worth, an album they recorded with the members of Sleater-Kinney. Two more albums followed until 2005, until the sudden death of Grant McLennan in May 2006 put an end to the band.

Since then, Robert Forster has maintained the band's legacy, re-released the band's early work in two box sets on Domino Records in 2015, told the story of the Go-Betweens as a story of friendship in his autobiography "Grant and I" and also presented numerous solo albums. Now another facet is being added to this maintenance of the band's history: Eleven international comic artists have each chosen a favourite song in order to bring it to new life in very individual approaches as a comic strip.

Written in English, with liner notes by Robert Forster.

The line-up:

Philip Waechter: "Karen" (from the single "Lee Remick", 1978)

Noah van Sciver: "Love Goes On" (from "16 Lovers Lane", 1988)

Matthias Lehmann: "Right Here" (from "Tallulah", 1987)

Katharina Kuhlenkampff: "Lee Remick" (single, 1978)

Sarah Lippett: "Here Comes A City" (from "Oceans Apart", 2005)

Bim Eriksson: "The Clarke Sisters" (from " Tallulah, 1987

Christopher Tauber: Bye Bye Pride (from Tallulah, 1987)

Klaus Cornfield: Streets Of Your Town (from 16 Lovers Lane, 1988)

Ulf K.: Quiet Heart (from 16 Lovers Lane", 1988)

Oska Wald: "German Farmhouse" (from "The Friends of Rachel Worth", 2000)

From chaotic early gigs to their final years, NME photographer Kevin Cummins provides a definitive, unique perspective on cult favourites The Fall. In this stunning visual history spanning four decades, discover how and why they emerged as one of the most innovative, boundary-breaking bands in modern music. With a foreword by Poet Laureate and Fall fan Simon Armitage and an interview with Eleni Poulou, as well as never-before-seen images from Cummins' archive, this is the ultimate visual companion to The Fall.

A Rough Trade Book of the Year

'No one has captured the look of alternative UK music over the past half a century more tellingly than Kevin Cummins.' - Simon Armitage

'Kevin Cummins is a true master in being able to capture the essence of music, the soul of the band. Whatever he does however he does it is a mystery to me but it's pure genius.' - Rankin

'Few photographers had such a close connection to The Fall as Manchester-based Kevin Cummins, and his new book, Telling Stories, is a rich visual history of one of the city's most beloved and enduring bands.' - Record Collector Magazine 'Kevin has the uncanny ability of capturing the inner mood of musicians. Be it the dynamics within a pensive Joy Division, or the sense surrounding the fledgeling Fall that something special was around the corner for us all. Kevin's book is nothing less than a remarkable document of a bewildering and defiant anti-fashion movement born in Prestwich, north Manchester in the grimy mid-70s.' - Marc Riley

'Capturing forty years of the band's career via his archive, the legendary photographer (whose recent book, Juvenes, documented the story of Joy Division) gives his take on the phenomenon of The Fall and the late, great Mark E. Smith.' - Vive le Rock

Notes: The history of India's first electronic music studio founded in 1969 at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad by David Tudor.

A book companion to the compilation album The NID Tapes: Electronic Music in India 1969-1972 released by State51.

Subcontinental Synthesis explores the history of India's first electronic music studio, founded in 1969 at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad with the support of the composer David Tudor. The essays and writings unravel the narrative and context surrounding the studio as well as the work of the Indian composers who created groundbreaking recordings during its four years of activity.

The texts reflect on the role of electronic music within a post-independence India, considering its interconnections with experimental design, radical pedagogies, and the international avant-garde, as well as the encircling conditions of Western ideological soft power within the global expansion of Modernism.

Spectres IV: A Thousand Voices - Millie Voix by Various
Notes: This edition includes an essay about the essence of improvisation by Joan La Barbara, Lee Gamble looking at neural networks and vocal simulation systems, an untitled anecdote from Ghedalia Tazartes (RIP) and Stine Janvin on the necessity of singing, plus much more.

"The voice is everywhere, infiltrating everything, making civilisation, marking out territories with infinite borders, spreading from the farthest reaches to the most intimate spaces. It can be neither reduced nor summarised. And accordingly, when taken as a theme, the voice is inexhaustible, even when seen in the light of its very particular relation with the sonic or the musical, as is the case in most of the texts collected in this volume. There is no point therefore in trying to circumscribe or amalgamate the multiple avatars of the voice.

We must rather try to apprehend what the voice can do, to envisage its landscape, its potential effects."

Sounds Of Eyes Opening by Spot Sounds Of Eyes Opening by Spot
Notes: Glenn "Spot" Lockett landed in Hermosa Beach, CA in the mid-1970s. A serious musician, he helped build Media Art Recording Studio and stumbled into photojournalism via Easy Reader, the local news weekly. Hermosa proved to be a crossroads abounding with oddball roller skaters who were mostly overshadowed by Venice disco rollers and the Dogtown-inspired leaps into professional skateboarding (never mind that the first skateboard competition ever was in Hermosa in 1963). Then, in the late 70s, a cultural shift hit, fueled largely by music. This time the South Bay was in the vanguard. Spot became the in-house producer and engineer at SST Records - the label founded in 1978 by Greg Ginn as a vehicle for Black Flag, the band that defined LA hardcore. Between 1979 and 1985, he recorded, mixed, produced or co-produced most of SST's pivotal acts, working on all of Black Flag's greatest releases, and on classic albums by the Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Saint Vitus, Descendents, Big Boys, Husker Du, The Dicks, Subhumans and Misfits. Throughout this period, Spot remained a master photographer who documented various Los Angeles subcultures in intelligently composed black-and-white photographs. As this volume reveals, there was no distinction between the musical and the visual - he heard what he saw; saw what he heard - hence, the title of this collection. Spanning the late 1960s through the early 1980s, Sounds of Two Eyes Opening offers an amazing portrait of Southern California beach life, set against the dark clubs and rehearsal spaces of the burgeoning punk scene.

Sound System Culture Jamaica & UK 1986-88 by Wayne Tippetts
Cat: 987233 Rel: 13 Feb 24

36-page staple bound book
Notes: "In 1986 I embarked on the first of many trips to Jamaica. The images published in this book form part of a wider collection of images taken of sound system culture both in Jamaica and in the UK over a 17-year period. Between 1993 and 2003 I lived and worked in Jamaica, teaching photography at Edna Manley College while continuing to work on a variety of photo projects and stories both in Jamaica and the UK, including my 'Dancehall' series.

It was at a 'yard' in the capital Kingston Jamaica on a hot and humid night, April 1986 that I took my initial photos with a Leica and a handheld lamp (no flash) It was here that I truly first encountered Jamaican sound system culture and the nascent dancehall scene. I was instantly struck by the sheer exuberance and intensity of the songs, mixed with electronic dancehall beats and bass rhythms. From the mid 1980s on Thursday night's deejays and singjays battled it out for supremacy, with fast-draw patios over pre-recorded 'riddims'. The address was 1 Robert Crescent, home to Jamaican singer producer, Lincoln Barrington "Sugar" Minott. Widely considered to be the godfather of dancehall. Minott's Black Roots record label and Youth Promotions sound system was established in the Maxfield Park area of Kingston in 1979 with a recording studio operated from a bedroom in the front the house.

My photographs have been exhibited in UK, Jamaica, New York, Australia and New Zealand, and a selection of my images are held in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC."

A comprehensive collection of the personal and political writings from the seven years Simba zine was published, plus five years of columns and articles in HeartAttack, Fracture and Clamor Magazines
Notes: Simba zine started in 1992 as a traditional zine and morphed into one of the most popular and well-respected "emo" zines of the nineties hardcore/punk scene. This is a comprehensive collection of the personal and political writings from the seven years Simba zine was published, plus five years of columns and articles in HeartAttack, Fracture and Clamor Magazines. Also included are interviews conducted in the mid-nineties with Texas Is The Reason, Split Lip/Chamberlain, Dave Mandel (Indecision Records), Jeff Unger (Greyhouse), Jon Hiltz (Born Against/Greyhouse), Jordan Cooper (Revelation Records), Kim Kinakin (Sparkmarker), Leslie Kahan/Lisa Ogelsby (HeartAttack Fanzine) and Kim Nolan (Bark And Grass Cookbook). Always searching, always questioning and always punk, Simba crossed the boundaries between the hardcore and riot grrl scenes, and was undoubtedly one of the most influential zines of the nineties.

Silence Is No Reaction: Forty Years Of Subhumans by Ian Glasper
Cat: 941089 Rel: 18 May 23

For the first time ever, the whole story of the Subhumans straight from the recollections of every single band member, past and present, and a dizzying array of their closest friends and peers, with not a single stone left unturned.
Notes: Formed in Wiltshire, England, in 1980, the Subhumans are rightly held in high regard as one of the best punk rock bands to ever hail from the UK.

Over the course of five timeless studio albums and just as many classic EPs, not to mention well over 1,000 gigs around the world, they have blended serious anarcho punk with a demented sense of humour and genuinely memorable tunes to create something quite unique and utterly compelling. For the first time ever, their whole story is told, straight from the recollections of every band member past and present, as well as a dizzying array of their closest friends and peers, with not a single stone left unturned. Bolstered with hundreds of flyers and exclusive photos, it's the definitive account of the much-loved band.

Aho Ssan debuts on Other People with second solo album and book 'Rhizomes' featuring Nicolas Jaar, Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid, clipping., Blackhaine and more.

Paris based composer Aho Ssan, the artist moniker of Niamke Desire, presents his new full-length 'Rhizomes' on the Other People label following his debut LP 'Simulacrum' (2020) and collaborative record 'Limen' (2022) with fellow musician KMRU.

'Rhizomes' draws inspiration from a concept coined and developed between Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guatarri. The idea of an ever evolving structural model, constantly in motion and spreading out in all directions at once. It has no beginning and no end, but always remains in a middle, through which it grows and overflows.

"The root thought is the one that kills everything around itself while the rhizome is the root that stretches out to meet other roots," Desire explains considering the works of French writer Edouard Glissant who addresses questions of identity, crossbreeding of cultures and its evolution.

Much like the name it borrows, Aho Ssan's 'Rhizomes' is a multimedia project that embarks on a myriad of disparate, unique musical and artistic partnerships. This piece adapts this concept to explore the influence of sound materials on creation, the appropriation of a sound object, and the collaborative nature of a composition that responds to modernity.

"Rhizome represents an underground stem system that fosters connections between various organisms and allows them to flourish collectively. It's an album that celebrates collaboration and brings together a diverse group of talented artists," Desire continues.

Aho Ssan collaborated with a comprehensive cast of artists to create a musical rhizome including Nyokabi Kariuki, Josefa Ntjam, Blackhaine, Nicolas Jaar, Resina, R?n C?p ?uoi, Richie Culver, clipping., Lafawndah, 9T Antiope, James Ginzburg, Exzald S, Valentina Magaletti, Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid and Mondkopf. Cooperation and community are at the root of this project and the lens through which all the compositions can be understood through.

Aho Ssan will present 'Rhizomes' AV show together with visual artist Sevi Iko Domochevsky at Berlin Atonal 2023. 'Rhizomes' received a Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2023 Digital Music

In conjunction with the album, 'Rhizomes' comes complete with a set of illustrations by Kim Grano in a book release. Queercore: How To Punk A Revolution by Liam Warfield & Walter Crasshole
Cat: 967105

The very first comprehensive overview of a movement that defied both the music underground and the LGBT mainstream community
Notes: "Queercore: How To Punk A Revolution: An Oral History" is the very first comprehensive overview of a movement that defied both the music underground and the LGBT mainstream community. Through exclusive interviews with protagonists like Bruce LaBruce, G.B. Jones, Jayne County, Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, film director and author John Waters, Lynn Breedlove of Tribe 8, Jon Ginoli of Pansy Division, and many more, alongside a treasure trove of never-before-seen photographs and reprinted 'zines from the time, "Queercore..." traces the history of a scene originally fabricated in the bedrooms and coffee shops of Toronto and San Francisco by a few young, queer punks to its emergence as a relevant and real revolution. "Queercore..." will stand as both a testament to radically gay politics and culture and an important reference for those who wish to better understand this explosive movement.

Punk Under The Sun: Punk & New Wave In South Florida by Joey Seeman & Chris Postash
Cat: 982343

The first book to chronicle the alternative music, art, and club scenes of a particularly amazing time and place: the 1980s in South Florida
Notes: The first book to chronicle the alternative music, art, and club scenes of a particularly amazing time and place: the 1980s in South Florida. Comprehensive in its approach, Punk Under the Sun documents the bands, venues, galleries, and scenesters who started and sustained the groundswell of activity that made Miami and nearby beaches a progressive hotspot, setting the stage for South Florida to become the international cultural destination it is today. Authors Joey Seeman and Chris Potash were there, participating in and documenting the first, second, and subsequent waves of musicians, indie labels, DJs, retail stores, publications, and players who came together to create a unique cultural moment and movement in South Florida history. This essential document of a powerfully expressive decade features never-before-seen photographs by Jill Kahn, Debbie Baylis Sunshine, Laurie Alaimo, and others, plus dozens of fliers, posters, and other souvenirs from that heady time. Punk Under the Sun includes a discography of 1980s albums and singles, along with an 11-page index that's a valuable Who's Who of people and places that created South Florida's alternative culture.

First edition of 600 copies. 224 pages.

Pezzi Di Vetro Schizzi Di Dangue by Luca Abort
Cat: 946509

Collection of drawings, paintings, graffiti, comics and band photos from Luca Abort
Notes: "Pezzi Di Vetro Schizzi Di Sangue" (translated: piece of glass, splatters of blood) is the definitive book on Luca Abort, singer of BLUE VOMIT, NERORGASMO, IFIX TCEN TCEN, collecting all his stunning drawings, paintings, graffiti, comics, band photos.. A maniacal collection of images, the result of a project developed over 10 years about one of the most nihilistic and emblematic characters of the Italian punk scene between the 1980s and 1990s, passed away too young following his omen "I'll exalt myself with the most sublime death".. A personality of great intelligence, surly and provocative, Luca has created an enormous amount of drawings, paintings, graffiti, tables, record covers, flyers and other graphic artworks. This book collects them meticulously: almost 300 full colored color pages disclosing a huge amount of never seen before material (taken from Luca's personal archives made available to his mother's courtesy) also including rare photos and detailed discographies of BLUE VOMIT, NERORGASMO and IFIX TCEN TCEN. This book is almost completely devoid of written parts except for a brief preface and afterword in Italian, it's all focused on the pictures, so even if you don't understand Italian you will be fully satisfied.
