Review: When Hospital Records launched some 16 years ago, it was primarily to focus on the more soulful side of drum & bass. While London Elektricity's imprint is now about so much more than that, many of its' releases still bristle with an expansive soulfulness. This mixed, mid-price, two-disc affair pays tribute to the label's soulful side, delivering sinewy, string-laden gems, vocal anthems, and liquid D&B classics from the likes of SPY, High Contrast, Nu:Tone, Logistics, Danny Byrd, Phuturistix and, of course, London Elektricity. Who mixed it isn't revealed, but they've done a great job; both discs ripple with melody, emotion and, of course, skittering dancefloor rhythms. This is Fast Soul Music, after all.

Review: Lo and behold, it's Phace's third solo album and it's sounding like his best LP to date. Powerfully punchy and high impact as it's compacted into a 30 minute hurricane, each cut is a glitchy zip from trip to trip; the wily vocal drop outs on "Downgrade", the sweary speaker kicking "FMS", the wonderfully whimsical "Lazy Day" and the near cosmic synths, gurgling bass and fizzy slapbass on "Obscure" are just some of the highlights that ping and ricochet you around Phace's multi layered, multi faceted, multi dimensional album. Breath takingly accomplished.

Review: The clue's in the title... Two anonymous stitch-ups that will tear-up your floor with serious badness. "Oh Diggity" takes TC's version of Bashmore and takes it for a romantic walk down Blackstreet while "Love Gets Sweeter" busses up a bit of Mr Quaye with a sugar-sweet jungle feel that's perfect for the summer ahead. Review: 2014 is a special year for Dom Angas. Not only is he turning 40, but it also marks 20 years since the release of his first single under the Dom & Roland alias. As part of the celebrations, he's handed over the parts to a string of classic productions to a veritable who's who of D&B talent. They provide a series of dark, pulverising, rolling and occasionally intense reworks, all designed to cement his reputation as one of the greatest exponents of the artform. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the classic jungle breaks and rave-era rush of BTK and Optiv's rework of "Jungle Beast", to the exotic melodies, foreboding stabs and tech-tinged textures of Mindscape's mighty rub of "Mindfeeders".

Review: Veteran producer, radio host and Metalheadz resident Bailey knows a thing of two about darkside drum & bass, having been one of the scene's major players since way back in 2003. Here, he showcases his skills as selector and mixer with Warehouse Music, an all-action throwdown for V Recordings' offshoot Chronic. Bold, ravey, stomping and suitably bass-heavy, it sees Bailey sprinting through a selection of heavyweight rollers from the likes of Roni Size, Saxxon, Crytical Dub, Command Strange and L-Side. Throughout, the old skool jungle influence is clear, and Bailey barely pauses for air. It's that kind of mix - a quick, thrill-a-minute ride through D&B's bolder pastures.

Review: Surprisingly, it's been four years since Hospital Records last artist-led mix CD. Whether or not London Elektricity's imprint is attempting to rediscover their roots is unclear; either way, there's something pleasingly stripped-back and old-fashioned about this no-nonsense "mixtape" from rising star Etherwood. The DJ/producer picked up a clutch of gongs at last year's D&B Awards, and here takes on a warm, rich, rolling and inviting foray through drum & bass's more melodic pastures. While firmly floor-focused, with tracks from both big hitters and lesser-known names (it reportedly also includes nine previously unreleased exclusives), there are plenty of deeper, looser moments, with Etherwood touching on liquid D&B and deep jungle just as much as big room-friendly smashers and soulful anthems.

Review: Brazil's DJ Marky is one of the few D&B guys still nurturing and developing his sound. It's a delicate mix of exotic, samba-filtered melodies and stunningly beautiful drum arrangements. The title track is exactly what we like to see: shuffling drums, esoteric melodies and suave lyrics. On the flip, "Love Affair" is similarly enchanting and Marky once-again proves everyone wrong by doing what he loves best. TIP!
