Review: Storied Finnish producer Sasu Ripatti, aka Vladislav Delay, inaugurates his newly announced eponymous Ripatti label with this excellent release under his surname. Ripatti has described the labrl as an outlet for his own experiments with club focused sounds and it's clear off the first release that his recent collaborations with Mark Fell for the Sensate Focus project have emboldened his desire to release productions that he's apparently been accruing for some time. Both "#39" and "#24" featuring equal doses of experimentation with rhythm and style and lean heavily on a cross pollination between techno and footwork. Look out for future releases from the Breaking Bad referencing Heisenberg project between Ripatti and Max Loderbauer, fellow Finn Teeth and more!

Review: Given their addiction to British style bass music - not to mention rhythm patterns from around the world - the Through My Speakers crew is not your average Berlin-based DJ/producer collective. That much is clear from this all-star EP. There's much to admire throughout, from the trap-with-bells-on dancefloor madness of "Ladies & Cash" by Bukez Finezt and the high-octane, shangan shake-goes-acid brilliance of TMS Soundsystem's "160bp", to the wobbly post dubstep/revivalist jungle fusion of Radar Bird's formidable EP closer, "Execute". Perhaps most impressive of all, though, is the dancefloor-focused future dub fuzziness of vowel-hater NGHT DRPS's "Timebomb Dub".

Review: Earlier this year, Young Echo members Vessel, El Kid, and Jabu made their Blackest Ever Black debut with their Killing Sound project, with a four-track self-titled EP presented rather provocatively by the label as "oblique soundsystem murders", pressed "obnoxiously loud." Here "Six Harmonies" from that EP is given a dark jungle reworking under the name "$ixxx Harmonie$ Version", where cyclonic breakbeats collide with gritty textures in much the same manner as Demdike Stare's Testpressing releases. This swift one-sided follow-up may only have one track, but its extended aural assault has considerable stopping power.

Review: A brand new label and brand new chapter for Ulterior Motive. Guidance was the name of the night they held in Bournemouth as they cut their teeth and chowed down on their craft. Now the Headz alumni return to these roots with four stark, stripped back and roughened constructs; "The Wobbler" takes the lead with its woozy synth hits and SP's distinctive flow. "Clap Ya" is all about the sci-fi bashy steppery while "Anode" sees them sparring with Icicle on a brittle, sinewy one-note jam that gets very messy very quickly. "Kamakura" sends us packing to the Orient for the final excursion as eastern strings and scales shroud a wriggling, spacious drum arrangement that smacks of the duo's originality. We need more Guidance like this.
