000 Baby (6:41)
000 Baby (OM Unit remix) (6:17)
Review: After many years turning out 12"s, Klasse Wrecks has decided to serve up a first-ever 10" and they give the honour to Mr. Ho. His '000 Baby' is a delightfully widescreen sound - a post-rave mix of comedown electronics, dusty breakbeats and soothing ambient pads with some smart vocal samples drifting like wispy clouds. On the flipside, we're treated to and OM Unit remix that beefs things up and speeds up the drums. The percussion too is more defined and the energy levels ramped up with deft 808 bass and searching acidic leads. A nice yin to the A-side's yang.

Crue01A (Kyle Hall remix) (6:26)
Crue03B (Gerd Janson remix) (5:42)
Review: The Crue label comes through with two huge remixers on this lovely marled 10". On the A-side is none other than Wild Oats label boss and Detroit innovator Kyle Hall. He kicks off with a frazzled analogue synth and crisp, raw drum grooves before layering in more dreamy and warm hearted pads. Distant vocals add the detail which allow this one to roll and roll and keep you locked. Running Back boss Gerd Janson then steps up with another punchy deep house cut, this time driven by a bulbous bassline and huge, oversized claps. It's an immediately classic cut.

Review: Jurgen Paape has a brilliantly characterful sound and wrote one of our favourite silly records in 'Ofterschwang' some 13 years ago (go check it out, it's brilliant.) We're glad to hear some new music from the long time Kompakt legend and co-founder and once again it's not what you would expect. 'Allein' is a downbeat piece with oriental melodies and gently plucked strings over warm bass. It's not for the club, that is for sure, but the flip side version 'Allein In Italien' sure is. This one is a chugging and brit Italo disco number with retro 80s synth sounds and plenty of joyous grooves.

Fresh Out The Water
Review: Making for a formidable partnership with their respective loves of beatdown house and boogie, Ugly Drums and Inkswel link up on City Fly for this marvelous EP that makes a powerful opening statement that will appeal to soul cats as much as house heads. The original version of "Watch Out!" features Charli James on vocals, cooing out a righteous delivery over a chunky, squelchy rhythm loaded with 80s funk signifiers. Inkswel then delivers a tripped out dub of the track that will have all lovers of weirdo grooves grinning inanely, while on the flip "Uglyink Theme" gets into a woozy downtempo house frame of mind. "Fresh Out The Water" slows things down even further with a prime slab of dreamy boogie modernism that would go down smooth next to some Dam Funk.

Ce N'est Pas Bon (JD Twitch edit) (5:20)
Review: Long term advocates of JD Twitch's selecting skills will be very happy to see the appearance of this 10" featuring the Optimo man's edit of Amadou & Mariam. Originally made back in 2008, this edit has been a staple of JD Twitch sets and was intended to be released as part of the third volume of the superb charity focused Autonomous Africa series that was issued earlier this year. Licensing issues put the kibosh on those plans, but with the edit having belatedly been granted permission Twitch elected to issue it as one off 10" instead of waiting for volume 4 in 2015. As with the best edits, Twitch's amendments to the original version of "Ce N'est Pas Bon" are subtle and understated, adding little rhythmic elements that make it easier to slip into a DJ set and hypnotise minds. All proceeds will once again go to the Mtandika mission in Tanzania.

Review: John Shima is a prolific electronic music producer. He has a sound maybe best described as futuristic & intelligent, with a hint of quarkiness at times. This EP contains two tracks, carefully selected from his archive to compliment one another and to bring you his productions of highest quality.

Review: The increasingly impressive Lobster Theremin label seems to be developing close ties to Hungary's emerging electronic music scene. Having previously released a superb EP from Budapest-based Imre Kiss, they've now turned to one of the country's more established names, S. Olbricht (an alias of producer Martin Mikolai). There's much to admire on this intoxicating four-tracker, from the alien electonics and hustling drums of leftfield techno opener "Fi", to the crackling, off-kilter rhythms and ghostly chords of "RPSTS". Elsewhere, Mikolai demonstrates his deep house nous on the warming "IIX1", and fuses twinkling melodies, creepy chords and a throbbing low-end groove on the similarly impressive "Veuns".

Your Love Away (For Lucky) (with Jules Etienne)
Review: Frankfurt's Live At Robert Johnson dole out a swift accoutrement to Massimiliano's excellent LP With One Another in the shape of this sublime two track 10". By our reckoning the label's first issue in this format, Major Fun comes with dedications to two friends of the Berlin-dwelling Italian. "Major Fun" is dedicated to a friend called Joshua who has sadly passed and it's vibrant, colourful explosion of sound and rhythm suggests Pagliara wants to celebrate his life. On the flip the hushed vocals of Jules Etienne adds an extra element of restraint to the deep, disco flecked house cut "Your Love Away" which is dedicated to Pagliara's close friend Lucky.

The latest is their tremendous Firecracker 4 EP, originally released in 2009 and perhaps one of the Edinburgh label's definitive records - just look at all those DJs that have charted it above! Present is the absolutely epic, Dennis Parker-sampling "Barely Eagle" by Linkwood & House Of Traps on the A side plus Linkwood appearing again on the B side with his crafty edit of Tabou Combo Superstars 1979 classic "Ooh La La". Prototype (Mr Beatnick dub)
Review: Last seen on the Join Our Club label, rising UK producer Clarke Sawkill steps into the physical realm with Prototype, an excellent debut for the Bokhari Records imprint. Primed for optimum club play, Sawkill lays down the one original track which is complemented on the B Side by a remix from the excellent Mr Beatnick. "Prototype" is one long, lolloping slo mo DJ tool with the sort of rolling bassline that tends to wedge itself quite comfortably in your affections and demonstrates Sawkill might be a producer to keep your eye on. Mr Beatnick opts to implement a slightly faster tempo that suits his now familiar sense of melodic warmth down to a tee. Another great 12" from the Bokhari crew.

Review: The Puss label overseen by breakout producer HNNY and Studio Barnhus founder Kornel Kovacs continues to be a source for club ready sounds, with the all caps loving producer at the helm for this much anticipated fourth release. Based around a liberal sample of the Queen Bee, "Sneeze" is one of those club jams that will appeal to party DJs, starting at a hip-hop tempo before a neat little vocal edit sees the track crank up the BPM exponentially and transformed into a no-nonsense house cut. It's a pretty simple idea executed perfectly and you are likely to hear this all over the festivals this summer.

While he's always been synonymous with authenticity, this homage to the Paradise Garage elevates his dedication one step further. Rich, analogue and ultimately loopy, each of these three tracks whisks us back to house music's most formative era. "Trax I" is a breezy, journeyman soiree that's so euphoric it could make Mr Fingers blush. "Trax II", meanwhile, is undiluted ambience, seeped in emotion. Here, regular contributor and all round man of mystery Doubt drops his third EP for the imprint, a two-track dose of woozy techno hypnotism designed to raise the roof in darkened cellars the world over. "Beauty" surges from the speakers, peppering a tightly coiled techno groove with sparse bleeps, pulsating sub-bass, foreboding chords and off-kilter electric piano. "Vertigo" is an altogether deeper proposition, its spooky chords and clandestine melodies riding a hynpnotic, heads-down rhythm while horror-influenced electronics tumble from the speakers.

Keeping the numbers in symmetry the 2-track single from label boss OOFT! is pressed on to 10" vinyl, and features one pitched-down & one pitched-up jam. Lead track "Here For You" summons some 70s soul vocals and layers new beats and synths underneath to create a pitch-down monster suitable for late nights and end-of-set moments. Review: Firecracker offshoot Unthank returns with a keenly awaited seventh release that introduces Texan producer Fur into the fold. It's the first credited release for the American producer (real name Bryce Isbell) since his Cocoon EP for the UNO label last year - this coming from a producer who according to his Facebook page has "released over 50 albums" on multiple formats. It's an impressive Unthank debut for Fur which sees weighty pianos and deep house rhythmics match the sounds of a harmonious DJ Sprinkles production. Firecracker's Linkwood bolsters the EP with his Stargazer remix, which replaces heavily struck keys with new age synths, while the loose swing of the original's drums have been tightened to create a linear, but laid back reinterpretation.

Review: With Landed marking one of the recent high points in an illustrious career for Detroit producer Norm Talley, the man himself returns to Landed to examine lead track "Travlin" with a pair of revisions that showcase different outcomes with the confines of slender, refined deep house. "Part 1" takes a dubby path, anchored by a hypnotic chord pattern while the beat ticks away in an unfussy manner. "Part 2" is the more sublime turn though, paring things down even more with a thoroughly minimal set of drums and a wonderfully hypnotic melodic tone undulating throughout. You will see boundries blurred between the genres of techno, deep house, electro and electronic music in general. For this release 'Data Waves' is a deep and mental journey that is intended to send the listener or dancefloor into a hypnotic state of mind, while 'Twisted Future' is more of a funky, soulful track, also with a dancefloor edge. This release is un-named and untitled, but if you look in the fine print you will see it was written and produced by the label owner himself.. Brad Peterson, as a benchmark for what is to come.

A Second Earth
Review: ** REPRESS ** The ever excellent D'Marc Cantu serves up this two track re-entry on MOS DEEP which serves as an enticing prelude to the producer's eagerly awaited debut album (of sorts) which is due later this year. Across both sides of the hand stamped ten inch Cantu demonstrates the ease with which he can work vintage, driving Chicago house rhythms and more emotive, utopian visions of machine made sounds. Lead track "How Are We Doing?" is the former, with wide reaching analogue thrusts gradually being joined by soaring strings over a driving jack groove. Our favourite however is the B Side "A Second Earth", a blissful saunter through laidback melodic touches and skittering rhythms that could go for infinity and not lose its charm.

Review: Further cementing their reputation as the merry pranksters of house music, Studio Barnhus drop their sixth release and you'll either love it or hate it! We love it. The mysterious HNNY delivers an edit of Mariah Carey's cover of Foreigner's power rock ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is" that expertly fools around with her money notes. The addition of creeping neon synths gives the track a brooding R&B flex and the sudden drop into silence that marks the end of the track is hilarious - it's worth dropping this just to see people's reactions. Barnhus regular Kornel Kovacs adds further heat on the flip with a simmering, low riding early 90s vocal house bumper in the shape of "Down Since '92" which will appease the serious house heads.

Love's Got Me High (Jimpster remix)
Review: The prevailing wisdom in music is 'if it ain't broke don't fix it', and we had some trepidation when we learned that there were reworks planned of Terrence Parker's "Love's Got Me High". Despite these reservations, it's clear that Marc Romboy and Jimpster have delivered versions that are respectful of the original and certainly meet its high standards. Romboy's take centres on loose, organic drums and soulful keys, filtered subtly. These elements provide the basis for a sensuous male vocal to intone the track's title. Jimpster's take is trackier and more suited to DJ usage, its hissing, rasping percussion combined expertly with an insistent rhythm, but here too Rhodesy keys and crowd screams and yells ensure it has a high soul quota. Check it!

"Listen To My 45" is the kind of track specifically crafted to sit uneasily in your ears on first listen but in time the wildly disparate elements amass to a glorious cacophony of damaged, unconventional groove. "Ghost Baby" darts into action on an uptempo micro-house groove before adopting a deranged synth. The A Side houses an absolutely sublime version of Todd Terje's "Snooze 4 Luv" from the magnificent Ragysh EP, further exposing the sumptuous horizontal qualities with aplomb. Providing some nice contrast is an equally refined remix of Son of Sam's "Nature Makes A Mistake" from Jack Plug. The reissue of this 1984 industrially charged oddity was our favourite Running Back release of last year, and the chance to grasp a physical copy of Plug's effort (which is superior to the more highly lauded Ame remix) should not be passed up. Review: After stellar contributions to the series from Bakey USTL and Vakula, Unthank swings back into action with a release from a producer much closer to their Edinburgh home, Lord Of The Isles. This Scottish producer has already graced some fine imprints such as Tusk Wax, Ene and American Standard with his music, while perhaps reserving the best so far to the excellent Hot Blobs EP released on his own Little Strong label. His contribution to the still fledgling Unthank canon improves on that release however, arriving in typically attractive cover art and described as "a journey of whiskey, analogue electronics, Scottish landscapes, nostalgia and underground parties". Musically the five tracks peak and dip between the differing emotions inherent in house music and sound as good as anything Firecracker have released to date.

Ma Spaventi - "Wrecking"
Aroy Dee - "Mr Floyd"
Review: There's something strangely appealing about M>O>S Deep releasing music on a 10" record; the compact size and the neat packaging are complemented by the fact that each piece of music is so stripped down, raw and full of sub-bass that they can barely press it onto such a small and lovable piece of wax. And in keeping with releases from 2AM/FM and D'Marc Cantu, the tenth release for M>O>S Deep - a split EP with Ma Spaventi and label boss Aroy Dee - features two tracks packed with so much raw power that the grooves struggle to tie them down. The record opens with Spaventi's "Wrecking", a stripped down track consisting almost solely of growling acid lines. The whole piece of music seemingly hangs on a menacing and aggressive 303 workout set at a snail's pace and interspersed with crisp hi-hats and a kick drum soaked in reverb. Aroy Dee provides balance with the flipside and his peculiarly titled "Mr Floyd". In typical Dee style the track features an unending parade of blissed out pads, gentle textures and layer upon layer of deep house. It gently nudges you along, revealing more depth with each passing minute, allowing the full-bodied percussion to gently build the tension before it melts to nothing amongst his perpetually translucent synth work.

It's got that grit that all Plan B records do, although paired with soft pads, melodious synths and poppy acid, the overall timbre of the A-side cut "Kuiper Belt" is warm and inviting. Review: Kinfolk head to Philly for Kinfolk004, welcoming committed vinyl rummager and top notch DJ Billy Werner into the fold. This two track 12" is the apparent end product of that rare occurrence where budding producer sends label unsigned tracks that are actually decent. "Kick & Flutter" is a blinky blue sunrise of a tune, innocent, euphoric and, dare we say, totally Balearic... not retro but timeless. "Where the sea meets the Stones" treads a similar line but with a more incessant acidic undertone. Both perfect for chasing sunrises and sunsets... As is traditional you get a Soft Rocks remix to boot... murmured voices, gentle pulses and psychedelic repetition. Did any of the original make it in there? Just relax and enjoy it...

Monte Verita (Kevin Reynolds Truth mix)
Review: Ever evolving as a producer with a sizable catalogue of charming electronica, Kel McKeown reaches out to a label he has no previous history with; Don't Be Afraid. It's a move that makes sense as the London label continues to establish itself as a reliable source of left-leaning but listenable machine music, and that's exactly what you get with "Monte Verita". The rhythmic function is loosely based around house, but as you would expect with Kelpe there are plentiful kinks and errors in the groove. The synths are the real stars here though; from warm fuzzy chords to Radiophonic bubbles in that heart-warming delivery that Kelpe has made his own. Kevin Reynolds meanwhile takes what he likes from the original and threads a whole new tapestry of more focused, not to mention decidedly pared-down, techno musings.

MV Look
Review: The artist occasionally known as Simon Rufdug Mcruff Al-Duggleston steps up to the collectable Porn Wax series with two lustful, lingering looks at 80s electronica. "Sorta Rican" is all soft skanks and twinkling keys. Think Ace Of Bass but with added Balearica. "MV Look", meanwhile, is a psychedelic storm where bold blasts of synths overlap like crashing waves on a new beat shore. Mesmerising and masterful, Ruf Dug is one smooth operator.

Ousana (Coyote remix)
Review: Is it Balearic drop a 10' slice of acid house perfection from one of the true masters of the genre in 'Foolish' Felix Dickinson! "Ousana" grows slowly over a driving house beat as warm synth pads and synth leads take the track along nicely with a subtle acid line until the bassline drops. A vocal refrain joins the groove seductively cooing 'I want to take you home' over the acid layers that develop in deeply hypnotic fashion. Straight into the basement. On the flip Coyote take the tempo down, bring out the percussion and create a Balearic acid stomper. Bleeps dubbed out vocals all swirl around the percussive rhythms then the acid line drops subtle and reminiscent of a certain acid house classic. Early doors or at the beach bar for this mix.

1985 (dub mix)
Review: As collaborations go, this is an interesting one. It sees keys-totin' veteran Boyd Jarvis - a maker of slick US garage since the late 1980s - team up with drum machine revivalist Nick Anthony Simoncino for a spot of cross-generation pollination. The resulting track, offering in Club and Dub flavours, mixes all manner of live keys, organs, electric pianos and percussion with the sort of stark, stripped-back machine rhythms that marks out Simoncino's productions. It's an odd but alluring fusion; spacious and out-there while being dubby and floor-friendly, it sounds like a long lost outtake of a recording session from 1985. Which, we guess, is probably the idea.

Synthonic
Review: Formed from the collaborative minds of Tomoki Tamura and Giuseppe Tuccillo, Doublet has had one previous outing on Tomoki's Holic Trax earlier in the year, and now it returns for another 10" outing of sturdy deep house movements. "Discovered Night" pushes forth on a bed of measured acid bassline while gentle chords and subtle flute-like harmonies hover on top, making for a well balanced all rounder for the warm up slot or later hours. "Cosmic Sign" is a little more wayward with its stuttering percussive kinks and trippy synth lines, although it doesn't stray too far from the dependable path of deep house. "Synthonic" meanwhile makes a claim for anthemic status with its edgy string hook and carefully placed diva vocal, avoiding any overly obvious tropes while talking big at the same time.

Jacob B - "Basement Crowd"
Liam Geddes - "Somebody In The House"
Cecil - "BV"
Review: 124Black is the new sub label from 124 Recordings with the aim of promoting a darker, harder sound firmly rooted in the underground. All releases are strictly limited and available only on 10" transparent vinyl. First up is Jacob B, rapidly gaining a lot of recognition for his deep and chunky club cuts, aptly demonstrated on "Basement Crowd" with solid drums, suspense filled strings, a spoken word vocal and a bassline that shows you exactly where the title of this track comes from. Next is another 124 family member, Liam Geddes' late night jam, "Somebody In The House". With it's haunting stabs, groovy baseline and snare rolls, this a simple, yet very effective track that works equally as well in a small club or large warehouse! On the B-side, Cecil returns to 124 with "BV" a track very much aimed at the dancefloor and replete with the producer's signature deep stabs and chords, that work alongside a sub bassline that you feel rather than hear. A peak time track that has been doing the business this summer.

Review: Released back on 12" in September on Planet E, the Terrence Parker and Reno Ka collaboration "Finally", displayed a heady combination of brisk instrumentation and soulful vocals from Ka which demonstrate why Parker is one of Detroit's most enduring producers. This 10" picture disc, sees another two equally as impressive versions of the same track; the "Backroom Mix" which substitutes the buzzing synths of the original for some hands in the air piano chords joining Ka's soulful vocals, and a DJ tool version of Masters At Work man Louie Vega's mix, which comes custom made for peak time transitions

So Get Down
Review: After kicking off Tomoki's Holic Trax back in 2012, Mr G is back on the 10" focused label once again with two cuts that tap right in to his skills in austere and immersive house music. "A G Moment" is a classic groover from the G camp, all heavily filtered chord throb and steadfast drums in a somnambulant but utterly soulful state of being. There's a touch more spice to be found on the flip side with the titular diva vocal licks that decorate "So Get Down", while the drums roll with a more pronounced weight, particularly in the bottom end.

Review: Having scored releases on a staggering amount of top-shelf European house and techno labels, Och makes his second visit to Systematic to follow up on the Force Mass Control EP that he dropped in the not too distant past. This instalment finds the producer in fine fettle as he delves into his measured and atmospheric take on pristine house and techno. While the drums may sound a little raunchy on "Soul Burner" the haunting chord swells and poignant vocal hook add plenty of mystery to balance the track out. "Starts From Now" opts for a more concise kind of deep house, all elegiac pads and rock solid swinging groove.

Specter - "Firefly"
Banfield Audio - "Static Buzz"
Review: Starting up the Monochromatic imprint in style, two fine examples of deep house exploration show their skills off with a track each on this slab. Specter is up first, mixing together cavernous tones with cheeky FM bell leads and a strange off key chord stab for the central melodic hook, delivered through the Fred P school of atmospheric reverb usage while the beat ticks away dutifully. Having only scored a remix prior to this more noticeable appearance, Banfield Audio is supremely focused in their mission with a hypnotic square wave bassline and elegant drum machine beat, with very little else in the way of distractions.

I Don't Feel (Deetron instrumental remix)
Review: An Aeroplane classic gets the Deetron treatment on the second limited edition 10" release from the Eskimo label. Originally released as part of Aeroplane's ambitious debut LP We Can't Fly, the Merry Clayton featuring "I Don't Feel" had never been remixed before the Swiss producer was invited to rework it as part of the exhaustive, multi disc ten year anniversary Eskimonde compilation from the seminal Belgian imprint. No doubt the track had previously remained untouched due to Clayton's powerful vocal turn which melded perfectly with Vito De Luca's rubbery Hi NRG production, but you can't fault the way that Deetron has reworked it, laying down an extended intro that burns with intensity before dropping a thumping, precision tooled beat. A previously unreleased Instrumental version adds some heat on the flip.

Dum Jams (Dum Jam techno Fuck)
Review: The latest transmission from Underground Quality HQ sees label boss Jus Ed at the helm on a swiftly delivered riposte to Dope Jams, having been included in the latest end of year diss list from the New York record store. That the Dum Jams 12" should arrive so soon after Dope Jams announced plans to close their store after seven years of selling records (and pissing people off) is ironic, but makes us wonder who really won here. There's a certain degree of cultural novelty inherent in the lead "Detox mix" which is thankfully balanced out by the tougher B Side "Techno Fuck" version.

Review: The seemingly unstoppable Rawax introduces us to yet another hot prospect; photographer and visual artist Robin Scholz. Conjuring sounds that are just as imaginative and illustrative as his visual work, "Track 1" is awash with waves of minor chords, spiralling synth flickers and a hypnotic sense of groove development while "Track 2" takes a low-speed adventure into the earliest phases of progressive house. Stunning stuff.

Road To Nowhere
Brothers & Sisters
Review: **REPRESS** The Jack Fell Down duo made a considerable splash last year with releases on Southern Fried and Hometaping Is Killing Music and now they resurface in style with the Another Way EP. The second offering from new Sccucci Manucci offshoot, Manucci's Mistress, this 10" operation is a good home for the Jack Fell Down sound. Lead track "Road To Nowhere" displays a pensive melodic restraint that many of the new crop of house producers seem to overlook in their excitement to get productions from Ableton to Soundcloud. If the A Side sounds like Jack Fell Down holding back, then "Brothers & Sisters" could potentially have them sectioned, such is the crazed madness of the screaming vocals that intermittently punctuate the 90s rave stabs. Great fun.

Secret Life
Review: The good ship Juno traverses the Firecracker galaxy and lands once more in the spacious Unthank region with more down under cross genre pollinations. Last year's Inskwel induction was a noted highlight in the small but perfectly formed Unthank catalogue, but this fifth edition from the unheralded Booshank might just match it. Shout outs to House of Traps for the silk screen two colour sleeve that houses this clear vinyl 10" from Booshank (who sources tell us is something of a scene staple over in Melbourne) Loose gargling acid of the deranged kind characterises lead track "Single Dutch" whilst on the flip "Interstate" has that psychedelic, cosmic vibe that Max D does so well. Booshank's disregard for kick drum politics is demonstrated with aplomb on "Secret Life" a simmering concoction of bristling textures which explodes into a charge of drums with the kind of glee that's almost sexual.

Dark Funk
Review: Porn Wax operates at a more glacial pace than the affiliated Tusk label which suits the slow, grinding brand of Balearica music the label brandishes. This fourth release sees Mexico City pair Daniel Quiroz and Gabriel Eugenio dish out a double helping of horizontally inclined cosmic funkers as Avanti near perfect for the balmy summer evenings. Lead track "Cabezaurio" has a lilting zero gravity groove underpinning some flanged guitar work and space age synths which would make Lindstrom green with envy. Complementing this, Avanti showcase their talent for chugging, muscular, druggy disco funk on the all too appropriately titled "Dark Funk".
