Review: Marking the 15th anniversary of Amy Winehouse's live performance at Glastonbury in 2007, the full set recording is now available on vinyl to purchase. Greatest hits in the late Camden-native's catalogue played live with a 6 piece band, 16 classics like 'Tears dry on their own' and 'Back to black' from her 2 albums are pressed on this double LP. The latter performance being watched on YouTube almost 8 million times, the raw vocals are incredible and a reminder of what made Amy Winehouse the legend that she is. This record is an indisputable must-have for collectors this year.

Review: Originally issued back in 1998, Mezzanine remains the most commercially successful album released by Bristol troupe Massive Attack, thanks in no small part to the Liz Fraser-featuring "Teardrop". This third album signalled a change in sonic direction that played more explicitly on the darkness and tension that was always an undercurrent of their much loved debut Blue Lines and successor Protection. After numerous bootlegs over the years, Virgin have done the right thing and presented this official reissue of Mezzanine to appease fans of Massive Attack and it's clear the LP has lost none of it's bewitching power. The Quincy Jones and Isaac Hayes sampling "Exhange" and "Exchange" remain a delight in particular.

Review: Canadian singer The Weeknd has just been announced as the half time act for this year's Super Bowl, which is another crowning glory for an artist who has made a remarkable rise to the top. One of his early standout achievements was his Beauty Behind The Madness album, which is re-released here on its fifth anniversary. It was his sophomore long player and feature big guest like Ed Sheeran and Lana Del Ray which helped it debut at number one in several countries around the world. Filled with some harder truths than previous music yet with plenty of catchy hooks and singalong choruses, it prove The Weeknd was more versatile than people thought.

Review: Since the glorious synth pop years of Japan, David Sylvian has journeyed into many other realms as a musician. The experimental nature of his formative band set the tone for a career of genuine intrigue, demonstrated wonderfully on this compelling album from 2009, reissued as a double vinyl release to foil some astronomical second hand prices. Manafon centres around pieces of free improvisation, experimental rock and chamber music, with Sylvian's eloquent voice guiding your ear through all manner of fascinating soundscapes and story scenes. With contributors including Christian Fennesz, Evan Parker, Keith Rowe and Toshimaru Nakamura, this is a widely hailed piece of leftfield art that ranks as one of the brightest jewels in Sylvian's glittering career.

Review: Cruising the slipstream of Black Messiah, D'Angelo's debut album gets a timely reissue 20 years after its release. The neo-soul foundations dig deep with every nuance and subtlety D'Angelo has become known for; the Gaye-level harmonies of "Crusin'", the jazz meanders of "Sh*t Damn Motherf*ker" and the unstoppably sexual drive of "Lady"... If this isn't in your collection already, now is most definitely the time.

Review: Roxy Music's fourth and most phase-heavy album 'Country Life' now gets a half-speed reissue by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, as part of a brand new effort to have every one of their albums repressed in their utmost quality, and repackaged in glossy new covers. Career highlight songs like 'Out Of The Blue', 'Prairie Rose' and 'All I Want Is You' sound better than ever here, doing justice to its comparatively pessimistic sound. It's still got that Bryan Ferry-ish, romantic aristocratic vibe, though!

Review: There was never any doubt back in 2001 that Kings of Convenience had real talent. The Norwegian folk-pop duo made no secret of their remit when they unveiled their debut album, which comes with a truly appropriate, spoiler-alert-worthy title. Erlend Oye and Eirik Glambek Boe are so soft and gentile, in fact, that the main criticism here is arguably the ease with which Quiet Is the New Loud can float calmly into the background of a situation.

Commit your full attention, though, and you realise what a triumph it was. And still is. Inspired by the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Belle & Sebastian, and Elliott Smith, this record became something of a centrepiece for an entire musical movement (see also: Turin Brakes) which even borrowed the name. Dive into the catalyst again, then. We promise you won't regret it.

This deluxe reissue comes on 180gsm black vinyl and has plenty of alt, art and folk-rock goodness within from perennial favourite Polly Jean "PJ" Harvey. This reissue of her sixth album features brand new artwork with cover art that is in fact based on a drawing PJ Harvey has done herself. It has been freshly mastered for the occasion by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering and was overseen by frequent and ling time PJ-producer, John Parish.

Review: If you're not a Blink 182 fan the fact the American pop punk rockers put out a Greatest Hits album in 2005 might be quite surprising considering they only rose to international chart repute at the turn of the century. Delve into their story, though, and you realise by the time they put out this compilation - coinciding with their split and, in the label Geffen's words, "indefinite hiatus" - they'd actually already been going for more than a decade.

Nevertheless, it's impossible not to acknowledge that it was the landmark albums Enema of the State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, respectively landing in 1999 and 2001, that saw them really break into the mainstream conscious. As such, excerpts from that era, for example 'All The Small Things' and 'What's My Age Again?' represent the biggest hitters here, however it's hard to ignore just how infectious every upbeat, angst-laden track is.

Review: Right, OK, where do we start on this one? There is no point in trying to come up with some pseudo-academic wordsmithery about the cultural contribution that Swedish pop band Aqua made to the musical world. But nor can we slay these sounds either, though, because for a short while they were everywhere and lapped up by everyone. The charm of the Euro-dace was in its nativity, its silliness, its innocence, but also the deceptive simplicity of the MIDI beats and catchy vocal choruses. Hard to believe this one is 25 years old but it is, and it is now available on wax once more.

Review: Every Steely Dan album is a world within itself - part of a broader galaxy of planets that share the same energy source, but ultimately unique and never interchangeable. Can't Buy A Thrill was the very beginning of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's revered project, fabled for its exacting studio prowess and ruthless commitment to perfection. There's immediacy to the likes of stone-cold pop classics 'Do It Again' and 'Reelin' In The Years', but this is still sublime and subversive music from a band who flew out of the gate fully realised. Now the album has been given a shiny fresh pressing so if you don't own it already, this is the time.

Review: It has been said before that Polly Jean Harvey's 1998 album, Is This Desire, marked a watershed moment in her career. A veritable coming of age record that failed to match the commercial heights of To Bring You My Love, but was actually a far more complete and personal thing. Less angry than preceding efforts, it painted a more balanced and accurate portrait of an artist whose formative years were pockmarked with media analysis and criticism of her visible powerful attributes - sexuality and fury.

Coupled with the fact that Harvey has never been one to pander to scenes in the hope of top ten chart success, and you can only imagine how happy she was with the finished product. And all this is before we start banging on about the musicality, from title track's subtle, hushed baritone blues to the garage rock-out of 'A Perfect Day Elise'.

Review: First things first: the world has come a long way in its attitude to women since this album was first released, so in 2019, 2001 sounds - at least lyrically - wrong on many levels. But it is also still very right when it comes to g-funk, west coast rap and second wave hip hop sounds. Listening to it from start to finish is to spend 90 minutes as a fly on the wall of the lives of Snoop, Dre, Eminem and all the rest of the high profile guests. Jam packed with classics and gold standards, this is an album of its time but one that was never bettered.

Review: Iconic punk outfit Siouxsie and the Banshees were already a big deal by the time 1981 came around. That's likely the reason they decided to put out this compilation album featuring all their UK single releases up to that point. Several of them had not been on any album by then despite them clocking up four long players already. Amazingly, 'Once Upon a Time/The Singles' spent a total of twenty-six weeks in the UK albums chart and is still to this day a cohesive overview of their early sound and subtle evolution.

Review: Two decades have passed since Massive Attack signaled a new stage in their career with the dark, paranoid and claustrophobic brilliance of "Mezzanine", their third studio album. Given the current global political climate, it arguably sounds even more relevant 20 years after it first hit stores. This time round, the re-mastered original set comes accompanied by something none of us have heard before: Mad Professor's complete dub translation, which was slated for release around the turn of the Millennium but for one reason or another never came out. Like his take on "No Protection", it's an inspired set of revisions that takes 3D and Daddy G's dense and red-eyed originals into wild new bass-heavy places. Even if you own the original version already, it's well worth picking up this special edition just for that alone.

Review: When Roxy Music made their debut in 1972, they were a breath of fresh air in the rock music world. They had sharp angles and arch ideas which brought post-modernism into the relatively conservative realm of guitar music, leaving space for wild solos and mind-bending sound effects from Brian Eno. They shook up the firmament and showed scores of other artists that followed it was possible to disrupt the norms and take chances without losing the kick ass element of rock - just listen to the fierce impact of opening track 'Re-Make / Re-Model' if you need further proof.

Review: Polly Jean Harvey broke into the common conscious with her unique and individual approach to alternative rock, and she's managed to maintain that aural autonomy throughout a storied career that has simultaneously found favour in the musical mainstream and refused to stray far from the leftfield. A difficult balance to strike, this, her eighth solo studio album, is indicative of that point. There's nothing here not to enjoy, but there's very little here you could predict.

Not least given where it sits in her back catalogue. Production began as the seminal but decidedly hushed White Chalk was released, and this record couldn't be more different from the preceding LP. Doing away with introspect, for the most part anyway, and refocusing attention away from pianos, it's a rousing indie collection that further cements the artist as one of Britain's national treasures.

Review: Way back in 1998 when Massive Attack's career-defining "Mezzanine" was first released, legendary dub technician Mad Professor cooked up some radical reworking. They now get their first official release alongside dubs of two tracks that never actually made it onto the album - Metal Banshee: a dub version of "Superpredators" which was a cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees' "Metal Postcard", and "Wire", which was actually recorded for the film "Welcome to Sarajevo". Wild effects, plenty of knob twiddling and oodles of reverb define this freaky late night collection and mark another essential release in the catalogue of the already legendary Mad Professor.

Review: 30 years on, the power of Nevermind has never dulled. Of course it's the most commercially appealing of Nirvana's albums, but it's no less daring for it no matter how many times you've heard it. Well, how to toast an album as world-changing as this one? By going all out on the lavish vinyl edition of course, which in this case means a mammoth eight-disc 180gm vinyl edition with a 40-page hardback book. If you want an altar at which to worship one of the definitive moments in popular music, this authoritative release is surely all the plinth you need.

Review: If only we knew then what we do now. Few times does the phrase feel more appropriate than when discussing R.E.M.'s debut EP - you didn't buy it in 1982, and now original pressings are likely to fetch a sum. Still, we can't all be winners, although any astute ears should have quickly picked up on the potential of these then-unknowns.

Following first single Radio Free Europe, Chronic Town, which comprises five tracks of ever-so-slightly-weird, jangling, up-tempo alternative indie rock 'n' roll packing post punk sentiments, set the stage for the band's most glorious days that ensued. Landing in 1982 on I.R.S. Records, the troupe would stay with the label for some of their most critically acclaimed landmark albums, and for many it's this era and sound that best explain the greatness of a crew known for reinvention and listlessness.

Review: Though he was already in our top 10, 'Foreverandevernomore' might just be the album that makes Brian Eno one of electronic music's top 5 greats. Reflecting on the conundrum that is Earth's increasingly precarious climate, it for the first time ever features Eno singing on nearly every one of the featuring 10 tracks. Briefly, we need to fall in love again, but this time with Nature, with Civilization and with our hopes for the future, opines Eno. The sonic manifestation of this is a blue, metallic drone album that pits influences as far back as Greek mythology against those as modern as aviation, sonically reconciling old and new.

Review: Given that the concept of the 12" version was born during the mid-to-late 1970s, it seems fitting that this four-disc trawl through extended mixes of the era leans heavily on classic disco cuts. Of course, there are some genuine must-haves among the DJ-friendly disco extensions on offer, not least Elton John's Philly Soul anthem 'Are You Ready For Love', Cerrone's 'Supernature', Dan Hartman's 'Relight My Fire' and Diana Ross's epic 'Love Hangover'. Throw in a smattering of post-punk and new wave gems, plus arguably the greatest end-of-night anthem of all, Wings' 'Goodnight Tonight' (the extended version of which gets brilliantly dubbed-out in the middle and is far superior to the seven-inch mix) and you have a rock-solid collection of club-ready '70s sing-alongs.

All the best tune are here from the squealing 'Roxanne' to the freaky 'Walking on the Moon' via the funky 'Message In A Bottle.' It came off the back of their hugely success 1985 long player Brotehrs in Arms and featured plenty of tracks from that record as well as the four others before that. 'Sultans of Swing', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Private Investigations' and three of the five singles from 'Brothers in Arms' all feature and this special vinyl edition also has 'Telegraph Road (Live Remix)' which in the past was only issued on CD. 'Portobello Belle (Live)' is here too as a brand new mix.

Review: When he released third album "Me Against The World" in 1995, Tupac Shakur was arguably the biggest name in hip-hop. As we now know, it wouldn't last, with the LA rapper losing his life in a drive-by shooting 12 months later. As tragic as his demise was, his music still resonates and this album - here reissued to celebrate its 25th anniversary - is arguably the best of the lot. Produced by an all-star cast of beat-makers (Brian G, Easy Mo Bee, Tony Pizarro and Moe ZMD included), the set offered a glossy and polished take on the then dominant gangster rap style while including numerous nods to R&B, swing and G-funk. If you don't already own a copy, grab one of these pronto.

Made available on wax for the first time ever, 'The Best Of Roxy Music' contains every hit from 'Love Is The Drug' to 'Angel Eyes', alongside lesser known bits such as 'Over You'. And of course, the band's aristocratic version of John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy' is on there too. Just in time for an anniversary tour, too.

Review: Despite the cutting-edge nature of her much-lauded Slave To The Rhythm set, 1981's Nightclubbing remains Grace Jones' finest hour. Recorded at Compass Point studios in Nassau with the help of Sly and Robbie, it saw the New York icon embracing her Jamaican roots, delivering near horizontal Balearic pop shot through with dub rhythms and occasional blasts of dubwise disco ("Pull Up To The Bumper"). This deluxe reissue presents the original album in remastered form, alongside a second disc featuring essential alternative versions. These include excellent 12" versions of "Feel Up" and "Use Me", plus various (uncredited) Larry Levan remixes of "Pull Up To The Bumper". If this isn't in your collection already, it should be.

Review: It has been a bumper year for any PJ Harvey fans somehow still missing her classic records from their collection, with the 20 year anniversary of Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea catalysing a slew of re-releases. This is probably one of the most important, her debut collaboration with fellow English alt-rocker John Parrish - a truly seminal recording.

At the time it was such a meeting of minds it's often difficult to know where one artist starts and the other stops, they're so musically in tune. It might be grubbily rolling around in grungy operatics ('Urn With Dead Flowers In A Drained Pool'), dominated by a weirdly uplifting, shrill blues discordance ('Rope Bridge Crossing'), or feel like a funeral service for lo-fi keyboardists ('Is That All There Is'). Either way, it was all incredibly different and is all still genuinely incredible.

Review: Beastie Boys Music is a new greatest hits compilation album that serves as a companion to 2020's Spike Jonze-directed Beastie Boys Story and 256-page photo book, Beastie Boys Book. The double vinyl affair takes in 20 classic tracks that span the iconic group's more than 30 year career, with the biggest of the big such as 'No Sleep', 'Sabotage' and 'Intergalactic' all making the cut. By now these are well worn classics, but their impact on rap cannot be overstated, and the tunes still get any party banging thanks to the immediacy of the beats and sharpness of the rhymes.

Review: New albums from Aussie fusionists the Avalanches don't come around that often, so the appearance of We Will Always Love you four years after its predecessor, Wildflower, is genuinely big news (it previously took them 16 years to record the follow-up to their acclaimed 2000 debut, Since I Left You). Somewhat predictably, they've hit the mark once more, supplementing their usual dense sample collages and multi-coloured, genre-bending compositions (a little psychedelia, Balearica and synth-pop here, a dash of dream pop, future R&B and synth-pop there) with vocals and musical contributions from a dizzying cast-list of like-minded guests (think Neneh Cherry, Johnny Marr, Jamie XX, Blood Orange, Tricky, Cornelius and Kelly Moran). Hard to pin down but royally entertaining from start to finish, We Will Always Love You is a triumph.

Review: Tangerine Dream has always been one of electronic music's most prolific acts. Even so, it still seems crazy that this vast box set - the latest in an ongoing series profiling their work for Virgin Records - only focuses on four years of their lengthy, ongoing career. As you'd expect, it boasts freshly re-mastered versions of six albums initially released between 180 and '83 (Tangram, Thief, Exit, White Eagle, Logos and Hyperborea), plus previously unreleased soundtracks to two movies (The Soldier and The Keeper), a swathe of unreleased concert recordings and various bonus tracks. It's an absolute treat for fans of the synthesizer-driven krautrockers, with the accompanying hardback book providing plenty to read and look at while you work your way through almost half a day's worth of music.

Review: Controversies surrounding 007 are well documented. Questionable sexual ethics and a drink problem that goes well-beyond borderline alcoholism are just two examples. Emotional trauma and mental health issues being one, or maybe two, more. In comparison, the soundtracks to the films we all grew up around are much less open to interpretation and subjectivity. Simply put, the scores - not least the main theme for each flick - are always huge.

Hence the sheer volume of albums that celebrate the sonic world of this super spy. This release is just one in a number that have come and gone over time, and it's hard to know what's left to say. Presenting the likes of Carly Simon, Shirley Bassey, Garbage, Madonna, Adele and - from the forthcoming flick No Time To Die - Billie Eilish, here's proof, if you needed it, that the studios always punt for on-point artists, defining of their era.

Review: Brian Eno is celebrated for lots of reasons - his pioneering ambient work, his role as a producer-for-hire on some landmark records by other people - but previously his role as a soundtrack composer is not one of them. This is slightly odd, because Eno has provided music for countless films and television shows over the last four-and-a-bit decades, as this excellent retrospective of soundtrack highlights proves. Kicking off with his creepy, chiming theme from Channel 4's Top Boy, the album moves between experimental soundscapes ('Blood Red, from a BBC documentary on Francis Bacon), swelling and quietly symphonic synthesizer sounds ('Decline and Fall', an intergalactic-sounding piece from the Dune soundtrack), languid Americana ('Beach Sequence', from his Passengers project), and the kind of lucid ambient compositions Eno probably knocks out in his sleep.

Review: Back when Paul McCartney fist left The Beatles he has said he was rather lost and in a depressive state. He decided to set up and record a lo-fi album at home where he played all the instruments. That was McCartney I. McCartney II followed with a similar set up and earlier this year once the coronavirus pandemic hit he decided to repeat the trick a third time. He plays all the guitars and drums himself, with just one mic set up in the room. If he didn't like what he heard, he moved the mic and played bits again. The results is a varied album that covers plenty of ground with all the skilful songwriting you would expect.

Review: Five years after their inaugural Motown compendium, UMC jump aboard the RSD Express with a sophomore set comprising 19 stone cold soul gems. While it features a number of evergreen classics ("Machine Gun" anyone?) there's a strong theme of less obvious tracks from some of Motown's myriad legends. Highlights splashed across these delicious yellow 12s include Kendricks' glock-busting "Keep On Trucking", Stevie's yearning, driving 1967 b-side "Every Time I See You I Go Wild", Puzzle's immense jazz dream-piece "Haiku" and a whole load more.

Review: Although the titular track might have been somewhat spoiled by a certain TV advert, the rest of Gregory Isaacs' most well known album still stands up. Lazy reggae rhythms are permeated by sparkly synth work from Wally Badarou, which at the time was a brave and progressive move away from traditional reggae and toward the ensuing sound of dancehall. Isaac's own buttery, laid back musings are front and centre, crystal clear and delicate throughout, always complimented by dainty piano chords that sink you deep into a dreamworld. The production throughout is first class, too, making this a true classic.

Review: Root Down is an experimental album from 1994 when The Beastie Boys locked themselves in a rehearsal space and went to town on studio experimentation and live jamming. It came between "Paul's Boutique" and "Check Your Head" and resulted in two previously unreleased versions of the title track and snippets of music recorded while on tour in Europe. There is the typical Beastie Boys mix of floor rocking riffs but with funky new flows stitched in and thus charts the period in which the band went from their post punk guitar roots to a more new-groove driven sound.

Review: In our eyes, Questlove is one of the best drummers of the modern era. His playing skills have held down killer grooves by everyone from D'Angelo to Jill Scott, Erykah Badu to Soulquarians. His own Grammy Award winning band The Roots brought thrilling musicianship and live instrumentation to the hip hop game and are widely regarded as one of the best live acts in the genre. Their fourth album, Things Fall Apart, was their real breakthrough and is now presented here, remastered, with bonus tracks, rare photos, essays from Black Thought and Questlove and liner notes from Questlove. Essential.
