Notes: Alter 2 is an effects processor for Eurorack format. There are two versions of the Alter which are visually identical except the names "Alter 1" and "Alter 2". This is Alter 2. Flame "Fire" percussion synth module

The module is a full 8-way polyphonic drum and percussion synthesizer. It offers different digital synthesis algorithms, which can be distributed over 8 channels. The sound engine delivers virtual analog sounds as well as different digital percussion sounds, which are generated with FM, wavetable or virtual analog synthesis. It is also possible to create sim- ple monophonic bass or synthesizer voices.

During development, particular attention was paid to direct and simple usability with regard to live operation. The hardware essentially consists of two parts (which are deli- vered together). On the one hand there is the basic module with all controls, the display, connections for MIDI, 2x CV inputs and 5 audio outputs.

There is also a separate XFIRE I/O extension with sockets for the 16 analog trigger/gate/CV inputs and 3 additional audio outputs. Both modules are connected via a 60cm long ribbon cable. In this way, the XFIRE module can be installed anywhere else in the rack. The base module is therefore only 22TE wide and can also work alone without the extension as a MIDI expander.

A maximum of 8 audio outputs are available. A stereo pair (outputs 7+8), plus 6 additio- nal individual direct outputs. All outputs are freely configurable. Two pages with settings for panorama and volume are available for the stereo main out.

There is a gate/trigger input and a configurable CV input for each channel. Two additio- nal programmable CV inputs can be used for further controls. This all-rounder has 16 gridless push-encoders, 7 function buttons and a large OLED-display. Encoders are switchable to 16 groups that allow controlling a total of 256 control parameters per setup. The display shows the current values of all controls or editable encoder/group/setup names. Various kinds of MIDI commands are possible, like program change, pitch bend, aftertouch, NRPN, and control change in relative and absolute mode with different acceleration amounts. All these properties are easily and efficiently programmable on the device, allowing personalized customisation for each separate control.

The encoders can work as high resolution 14bit controllers too (NRPN, control change or pitch bend). This makes them suitable for sensitive parameters like resonating filter cutoffs, etc.

Use the internal 16 setups to save your individual settings. Backup and restore of all settings by SysEx dumps are possible too.

The factory settings are perfect to control music and video software products out of the box. Thus, any additional device programming isn't necessary for many applications.

The little box is also a great extension for your Ableton Live setup. There you can control all the continuous parameters like track volumes, rack macros, send amounts, and track pannings. A special control surface script for Ableton Live, including all necessary mappings, is enclosed in the package.

Bullfrog is a classical subtractive synthesiser - it consists of several "modules" for sound generation - VCO, NOISE GENERATOR - and treatment - VCF, VCA/DELAY, as well as "modules" that generate control and modulation signals to control them - ENVELOPE GENERATORS and SAMPLE & HOLD. The Bullfrog will not make the sound on its own unless it is patched - using eurorack patch cables to interconnect the "modules" or by inserting voice cards that create internal connections between the "modules" in a specific way and add extra functionality, like sampler/looper, sequencer, groovebox, etc. This approach better helps to understand functionality of a subtractive synthesizer and the principles of sound design with instruments like these.

In order to provide a well rounded understanding of the functionality of this synthesizer and sound synthesis in general, a comprehensive user manual is created to accompany the learning process.

Tempete Magnetique is deeply inspired by the classical filters design as well as West Coast synthesis complex oscillators.

At it's core, has 4 multi-mode 12db filters that can be chosen to be routed in series or parallel, which can be used independently or combined and even cross-modulated, controlled by CV or with an integrated envelope follower (which can be used as a dynamic responsive envelope) and even pinged.

The Tempete Magnetique was designed to have several levels of use. The individual level with the use of separate filters, perfect for quadraphonic processing of different sources (A B C D).

The pair sections which allows for more complex stereo effects or to generate synthesis voices (X, Y) and finally, the global level with a cross-modulation of filters.

The independent outputs have been designed to be fed back into their input, turning them into oscillators (not really precise one, but you can make synth voice kind of V/Oct tuned with their very own sound, due to the fully analogical design, these oscillators may have strange behaviours sometimes, but this instability will bring you the warmth of analogue gears).

The pairs sections, of course, can filter an incoming signal, but can be transformed to full synthesis voice, percussion engine (exited by the ping input and modulated with the envelope follower) and way more.

This filter allows for anything from gentle, subtle filtering to a storm where the undulations of your sound and their intensity create new types of textures.

Why Choose Parametric EQ over Graphic EQ?
Parametric VS Graphic EQ Graph
Graphic equalizers provide a convenient visual sense of the EQ curve. However, there is a tradeoff in transparency and precision.

The graph here shows the ParaEq MKII Deluxe (cyan) and a 7-band graphic EQ pedal (magenta) both providing a +4dB boost at around 2 kHz. As can be seen, the ParaEq is much more precise in the changes it can make, whereas the graphic EQ affects nearly the entire frequency spectrum. Furthermore, at around 10kHz the ParaEq is providing unity gain, whereas the graphic EQ is attenuating the signal by nearly 6dB. This makes the ParaEq a more transparent circuit than the graphic EQ.

This combination of transparency and precision is why recording studio control rooms are dominated by parametric equalizers, and why they're a great choice for creative and corrective EQ on your pedalboard.

The Life Pedal V3 circuit has been meticulously tweaked from the original to squeeze every last drop of heavy crushing tone available. The octave section has been fine tuned to make it more pronounced without losing the bottom end and we added a third footswitch, utilizing Flexi Switch Technology, for the octave to allow an additional method of quick and radical tone shaping. We are excited to have this back in permanent production, it is a true labour of love.

Life Pedal V3 is a distortion with a blendable analogue octave up and a booster combined in one compact package. The "Amplitude" side is faithfully modelled after the classic "White Face" distortion unit, using modern, reliable components to last a lifetime. The only modifications made to the original circuit are in the clipping section. The traditional circuit uses a single pair of silicon diodes for a tight, compressed crunch.

As with version 2, Life Pedal V3 offers two additional clipping options to better adapt to different rigs. The first position is no diodes to allow for full, grinding Op Amp assault at maximum volume. The second position utilizes two silicon diodes and one LED in an asymmetrical clipping configuration. This delivers a slightly compressed and smooth crunch, similar to a valve amplifier.

The last position is the stock double silicon diode configuration which provides that classic tone you know and love. The Octave in Life Pedal is an all-discrete, analogue full-wave rectifier base on a classic vintage design. Located at the input of the circuit, the Octave control slowly blends in the octave effects as you turn it clockwise. This feature can also be used via expression control allowing for wild, hands-free octave swells mid-riff or using the footswitch for immediate octave fuzz destruction.

Because this is an analogue octave effect, it is monophonic and works best playing single notes above the twelfth fret while using the neck pickup. Playing chords with the analogue octave will sound clanging and chaotic.

Using the bridge pickup and playing below the twelfth fret will produce a very subtle octave effect. Going full Octave transforms Life Pedal from a simple distortion device into a swelling, raging fuzz similar to the classic Super Fuzz!

The "Magnitude" section of Life Pedal is a simple all-discrete MOSFET booster designed to blast your preamp tubes and drive them wild. It is a 100% clean, no-nonsense, high impedance booster that adds very little colour to your tone. It does not add distortion on its own but has plenty of output to push your amp into saturation.

The signal path goes Octave>Distortion>Boost. The octave distortion and booster can be used independently with their own respective foot switches. The Petrine Cross is the octave distortion and the Christian Cross is the booster.

Ennio Morricone's legacy is well known across the world, or at least the world of cinephiles. The legendary film composer is responsible or no less than 400 movie and TV scores (in fact, he's made a few more), with a 100-strong oeuvre of classical compositions to add to that storied back catalogue. Sadly lost last year at the age of 91- unrelated to coronavirus - much of his work is now rightfully returning to the release schedule.

Of course, none of his output can match the music he created to accompany Spaghetti Westerns - Italian made cowboy movies from directors such as another late-great, Sergio Leone, including The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars. 134 of the finest arrangements from that part of his life are included on this mammoth collector's item, which proves you don't really need visuals to be transported to the wild frontier towns of yesterday.

Notes: 'Vintage' black panel version of Doepfer's updated frequency shifter module, offering weird and wonderful effects by shifting all frequencies by a fixed amount. Unique sound, not to be confused with pitch shifting.

Module A-126-2 is a fully analog frequency shifter for audio signals. A frequency shifter is an audio processing unit that shifts each frequency of the incoming audio signal by the same frequency. If the shifting frequency is e.g. 200Hz an incoming audio frequency of 1000 Hz becomes 1200 Hz, 2000Hz becomes 2200 Hz, 3000 Hz becomes 3200 Hz and so on. Notes: This module provides you with four motorised faders (aka flying faders) to be attached to your DROID master. You can attach up to 16 of these units (or any other DROID controllers) to one master, so the maximum number of faders on a DROID is 64. Below each fader is a touch button and an LED.

You can use the faders, the buttons and the LEDs in very flexible ways to control all parameters in your DROID patches, like steps of a sequence, volumes of channels of a digital mixer (controlled via MIDI with the X7), parameters of a large bank of envelopes, CV values that are organized in presets and much more.

The special thing about the motorized faders is that each fader can be assigned several functions or presets. When you switch the function, the fader moves to the exact position that corresponds to the current value. The usual Eurorack "picking up" of potentiometers or faders, where you never know exactly which value is currently set, is now a thing of the past.

Another unique feature is the "haptic feedback". If a fader is used, for example, in a sequencer to select a note from a scale, you can feel each individual note like an artificial notch. The fader intelligently creates these virtual grooves with its motor. This is very useful and very intuitive whenever you use the fader to select one out of several discrete values. Other examples are clock divider settings, the number of a preset, a waveform, a clock offset and much more. Due to the haptic feedback you don't need any display for seeing what you are doing. You can concentrate on making music and play very intuitively.

Another kind of haptic feedback is a kind of "pitch bend wheel", where the fader always pushes back to the center position by itself. Here the motor creates an artifcial spring. When setting analog values such as a volume or a filter cutoff, the fader then runs freely, of course.

Applications

The DROID plus the faders can be used for various applications - and due to the possibility of switching even at the same time! Here are some example:

Control a bank of four envelopes with A, D, S, R each with just four faders
Use the faders for CV presets
Use the faders and their haptic feedback for live performing with pitch bends, ratcheting and all other crazy stuff
Power
Motor faders need much energy. Theoretically one single fader can draw up to 800 mA when at full power. That seems to be the main reason why nobody dared in bringing motorised faders into Eurorack so far.

Der Mann Mit Der Maschine have solved that challenge by making use of the fact that the fader need their power always just for a very short time. The M4 unit comes with four big power tanks (called super caps) that are loaded with a low current but provide the full power when the faders need them. That way the maximum current of one M4 unit is limited. With jumpers on the back you can choose between a peak current of 350, 450, 500 or 600 mA.

Controls

FREQ: Controls the frequency parameter of the current mode.

Notes: The Dannysound Dynamics is a compressor / expander originally designed to process drums but, like most processing devices, it can be used for a wide variety of applications.

The module comprises of:

The compressor / expander section uses a discrete transistor-based circuit that allows for soft clipping when overdriven.

The envelope detector is known as a feedforward type of circuit; taking its input from the signal before it goes to the compressor rather than after. This type of circuit is known for having fast attack times.

The Sub Bass enhancer has its own compression circuit that "ducks" the initial transient. This allows the sub bass to be increased without distortion on the transient peaks, increasing the overall level.

There is a MIX control to allow the unprocessed signal to be mixed back in with the processed signal.

The 3 band EQ is an inductor based LCR design. After Dannysound tryed out various EQ topologies, this was the design that sounded the nicest. When overdriven it gives a nice "bite" to the sound, and it has a certain characterful charm that's hard to put into words. The controls have a response that are subtle to begin with and get more pronounced as the controls are increased.

The Harmonic Exciter adds a little distortion to the high frequencies, which bring out the sparkle of cymbals or the snap snare drums. The operating bandwidth can be switched between Low (snare drum snap) or High (Cymbals sparkle).

There are inputs for side chaining and control with an external envelope as well as an envelope out to make the envelope detector output available to drive other modules.

It also features separate inputs and outputs for the Compressor / Expander and EQ sections, so they could be used as 2 separate modules.

Notes: The CubuSynth Engine V2 is their updated dual analogue VCO with wave shaping functions, internal modulations and a chaos generator. It is based around the 3340 chip and features 4 Waveforms + Wavefolder per VCO and 4 Modulated Outputs, all simultaneously.

The CubuSynth Engine can work as 2 independent VCOs, or as one complex FM oscillator.

With its internal "Chaos Engine" it creates semi-random voltages, generated by the 2 oscillator cores. This signal is then normalized to the CV inputs for Pulse width modulation and exponential FM.

A USB MIDI controller with an 8×8 grid like Launchpad or APC is used to display and edit the patterns (see the list of compatible controllers). The user experience is tailored to live performance and detailed composition: dial in simple rhythms or complex polyrhythms, retrigger at audio rate, create dynamic percussions with velocity triggers or use longer pulses to create steppy modulations.

It features the same amount of channels as the previous Cosmix, 4x mono in, and 2x stereo in.

Each channel has a pan pot, a big push button for clickless muting, and a dedicated LED level meter to visualize channel output level.

The mono channels come with a handy low cut switch. (-3dB @80Hz / -6dB @ 45Hz)

The stereo channels have an optional +18dB gain, allowing you to easily mix in line level external gear.

The two stereo channels also have a CV input for voltage controlled panning.

Conductive Labs have turned complex music theory into a killer synthesizer jamming MIDI controller. With four parts that can play up to 8 synths, you can make fantastic electronic music, such as soundscapes, electronica, ambient, electro, or techno to name a few. Whether noodling in your music space after work or jamming with friends, The NDLR can take your music to amazing places!

Press one of the seven chord buttons, and the two arpeggiators and drone follow the chord notes while your polyphonic synth sings with pads.

There are start and stop buttons for each of the four parts, and a button to start/stop all parts. And there's a "panic" button to stop all MIDI notes.

A colour LCD screen shows you everything that's going on. A very flat menu structure keeps menu diving to a minimum.

Pick a key, a mode and control the BPM of The NDLR's MIDI clock.

With two sets of 5 pin DIN MIDI inputs and outputs, and four USB MIDI virtual ports you have lots of ways to connect your MIDI devices. There is also CV clock in and out connectors to sync with your Korg Volcas, modular or semi modular synths.

It works with MIDI hardware synths, and your DAW or tablet, if that's your thing.

Once you master the basics, dive into the 8x modulation matrix. It lets you animate most of The NDLR's parameters. You can even send LFOs to your MIDI gear.

The NDLR includes a Pattern editor to make arp and modulation patterns, a rhythm editor and now a Chord Sequencer too! Once you have your perfect piece, you can save your patches.

What's new in The NDLR (v2)?
By popular demand, a soft-power button has added. The NDLR (v2) is powder coated with a black faceplate and beautiful red base. And the internals were modified for a new, faster microcontroller. The feature set remains the same, though there are some surprises waiting to be discovered in the menus. So far, new features are being back ported to the original The NDLR via firmware updates, as long as it does not require the faster processor.

The Four Parts


The PAD part is a polyphonic chord player for getting beautiful PADs out of your favourite poly synth. Like all of the other parts, the PAD plays notes based on the selected global chord. When you press a chord button the notes stay on until you press the next chord or stop the part, so you can twist knobs on your synths or play a lead part on guitar. Change or modulate the chord octave position, note range, spread, and strum.

A really cool feature of the PAD part is the "Interleaved Poly-Chain". When enabled, this will send the chord notes to up to 4 MIDI channels in a round robin fashion. Really great for ethereal evolving patches on a multi-timbral synth, or for turning multiple mono-synths into a poly synth! Six voices from 2 Volca FMs? Sure!

There are two "Motifs" which are extremely versatile sequenced arpeggiators. Select a pattern for each one and press Play! Independently tweak on clock division, pattern length, octave position and more. You can create your own patterns with the onboard pattern editor, and add rhythm with the onboard Rhythm editor. The motifs play the notes contained in the currently selected chord, so you don't need to pick notes on a keyboard. The NDLR supports a 10 to 300 BPM clock so play as fast or slow as you like, or use an external clock source.

The Drone part can play a single continuous note like a traditional drone does... or choose from various retrigging options, such as having the note retrigger on a chord change, the down beat, every beat, up beat, etc. You can also choose to add a 3rd and/or 5th note to the root note for a polyphonic drone. Or have the drone play a thundering kick drum if you want to.

Hardware

Requirements:

USB Power Supply not included; The NDLR (v2) runs on 5V DC, 140mA. The original is 90mA.
The NDLR comes with a 6 foot USB cable. You can purchase longer or shorter cables as needed, with USB A to USB B connectors. Users of newer Macs may need to purchase a USB B to USB C cable or use an adapter.
MIDI Synthesizer(s); The NDLR is a MIDI playing device, it doesn't make any sound on its own, it sends MIDI messages to your MIDI sound modules. It can play most anything with MIDI input including vintage synths, modern synths, mono and polyphonic synths, software synthesizers, on an iPad, PC, stand-alone or VSTs in a DAW. Note that some vintage synths or synths with poor MIDI implementations may be prone to getting stuck notes. Use the Panic button on The NDLR when needed.
To connect many synths, and for the best MIDI timing we recommend using an active, 1 input to 4 or more outputs MIDI thru device or MIDI router, such as the MRCC.
The NDLR has rich velocity controls if your synths support velocity, not all do.

MIDI

MIDI-in Options:
Connect a MIDI keyboard or sequencer and The NDLR selectable transpose MIDI channel to transpose from the key of "C" to the current NDLR key & mode.
Use a MIDI keyboard or sequencer to select chords. Choose The NDLR "Control-In" MIDI channel. The white keys map to chord degrees I-VII. Optionally black keys map to the chord type. Sonority is automatic based on key & mode.
Most features of The NDLR can be controlled by inbound CC messages.
All notes and CCs pass thru except for The NDLR control channel.
With 2 MIDI 5 pin and 4 USB MIDI in and outs, The NDLR is a MIDI merger and a MIDI splitter. See the manual for details.
MIDI-out Options:
Selectable Drone MIDI-out channel (Off, Pad, 1-16). Pad choice means same as Pad channel.
Selectable Pad MIDI-out channel (1-16). Poly-chains play on next successive MIDI-out channel(s). Example: Pad MIDI-out ch = 4. Polychain = 1 - all pad notes on ch 4. Polychain = 2 - every two notes plays on channels 4/5. Polychain = 4 - every 4 notes plays on channels 4/5/6/7. If you are playing 6 notes with Polychain = 2, note1->ch4, note2->ch5, note3->ch4, note4->ch5, note5->ch4, etc.
Selectable Motif 1 MIDI-out port and channel.
